A snowstorm raged outside of the den. Balto sighed and then saw two heads pop into the den. "You're alive!"Screamed a female voice. "Come with us!"Said another. "But the Beta wolves are taking care of me and we should stay here to let them know some other wolves survived the attack!"Balto said. "Well they aren't coming back anytime soon."Said the first female as she brought a bunch of wolf bones into the small den.
"So you coming?"She asked."Umm...Okay?"He said in question form. Balto got up and followed the two females. The snow hit him in the face and it felt like needles. His paws felt like they were frozen solid. While he was deep in thought of the attack on camp that he had been told about many times before he noticed that the two females were no longer in front of him. His eyes widened and he ran forward and tripped over something and fell over tumbling down a hill side. "So life is going to end just because of this?"He asked himself. Everything then went dark.
"You, wake up!"Shouted a voice above him. The wolf pup didn't respond. "Come on wake!"The voice shouted louder. Something was shaking him. Balto's eyes opened and he looked up at....a goose?!
"Who are you?"Balto asked."No time for questions. Come!"The goose demanded. He started moving away and Balto got up following him.
Balto had followed the goose all the way into town. "This is a town."The goose told Balto.
"I know. My friends used to tell me of the stories their parents told them."
"Oh."The voice of the goose seemed to be hollow on this one reply. Balto turned to see a big building and in front was something standing up right and it only had fur on the top of it's head. Beside it was a red and white wolf.
"Who's that wolf over there?"Balto asked.
"That isn't any wolf, that my friend is a husky. A red and white purebred husky."
"Oh."This time Balto's voice was hollow. Then the goose stopped dead in his tracks and Balto stopped too. He looked up at a big black and white 'husky'. "Oh umm...Hi!"Balto said smiling.
"Oh look. A wolf."The husky growled.
"Steele leave him alone.Does it really matter if he's a wolf or not?"Said a sweet sounding voice.
Balto and the husky who seemed to be Steele turned to look at the red and white husky. The goose motioned Balto to follow him away from the two huskies.
"What was that all about?"Balto asked still confused, "It's hard to explain."
The goose replied to him.
Balto gave a little sigh and looked at the ground in shame of his heritage.
"Well let's forget about that. I am Boris."
The young wolf had almost forgotten his own name for a moment,"I'm Balto..."
Images of his mother shot through his mind. He trembled.
"Where is your pack?" Boris asked him.
"Pack? Oh yeah my pac- ..." The wolfdog became silent and looked up at the sky sadly.
He wondered what had happened to the survivors, mainly the females who had tried to lead him to the survivors. He remembered the tellings of the great attack by his mother.
Why? He thought.
Why have I been put through all of this? Losing my siblings, losing my pack, then losing my mother and the betas. Finally I was found and there was hope then I lost my chance! Life is horrible... He thought letting out a little sigh. He wondered if there was any hope of a good life for him in this town, with these up right walkers with only hair on their heads, With this crazy goose, that mean "Husky", and that Sweet "Husky"
Life here would sure be confusing!
Just then he turned as the small red and white female approached him. She had a smile on her face and didn't seem to be like the black and white "Husky". She wasn't that full of her self and seemed to care about others as much or even more than herself!
"Hello there. Sorry for what Steele did back there. I'm Jenna." Jenna said smiling.
She looked away for a second, Steele is such a jerk! She looked back a smile still bright on her face.
"I'm Balto."
Living without my mother is Painful, yes, but I think I've found a home here.
It seems this place is called Nome and is made up of many things, such as, "Huskies", And these things called People.
It seems that I have more of a chance of surviving here then I do anywhere else.
It may not be perfect, Yes speaking about Steele, but I like it here.
But I know one thing for sure... Some things are Gone Forever.
