Chapter two: The True Face

8.5 months after Chapter one: The Frost Pack

Mailo, Pearl and Frosty are 10 months old. They have gone on several hunts now with the pack, but also on their own. Even though they don't always have succes, they are very skilled. All three of them received their water power when they were two months. Raider and Safira helped them control it and Zogar showed them cool tricks. The water powers helped them on hunts, but they had to be responsible with it and don't use it for just everything. Frosty was away on a hunt alot. She avoided any contact with her uncle Kael. He was always cranky when he saw her or her family, but she knew he especially hated her for her appearance. She didn't mind, she liked the way she looked. Not did she look just pretty, she was proud to look like her grandma even though she never met her. Somehow she just felt like her grandma was watching her and her brother and sister. Today she was determined to catch a large prey. Not a caribou, that would be to much for a 10 month old wolf. She had found the perfect prey. A small deer, just big enough to be an adult, but small enough to take down. She checked which way the wind blew and made sure she stayed out of the wind or have the wind from front. That way the wind would blow away her scent and the deer wouldn't sense her. She sneaked through some bushes, making sure she didn't make any sound. She was two meters away from the deer. It was close enough, if she would move now the deer would be startled and would ran. She stayed low and wagged her tail. Even though she was alone it became a habit to wag her tail, it was a sign for the other hunters to start the attack. The deer stood still eating the grass with it's neck in a straight way for Frosty to grab. She went for it. She pushed hard of the ground and jumped forward grabbing the throat of the deer with her teeth. They sank right in and Frosty tasted the blood that was pouring out on the ground and into her mouth. She didn't let go while the deer tried to run and shake her off. It was getting weaker but still struggled. Frosty felt her jaws starting to hurt. She was used to hunting, but not to hang onto a prey this size for so long. She released and immediatly sank her claws in the stomach before it could run. Right after that she sank her teeth in the stomach and again blood flew out into her mouth. She felt the energie she got from it. The deer fell down on the side where Frosty was clinging on. The deer got up and ran. Frosty got up too and felt a bit crushed, but quickly regained and went after it. She was gaining on the deer and soon enough she grabbed the rear leg, causing it to trip and fall. Quickly Frosty jumped to its throat and sank her teeth in it again. The deer struggled for a few seconds and then lay silent. Frosty had killed it, her first large prey all by herself. She was so tired from all this, she didn't have the strength to pull it to the pack. She sat down and howled to her pack. Not long after that five packmembers came running towards her, among them her brother Mailo. 'Frosty! That's incredible. What a prey': Mailo yelled at a small distance. 'Thanks Mailo': Frosty responded. 'Could you all help me drag it to the pack, I'm exhausted'. 'Yeah sure': The all said. The six of them together dragged the prey to the pack where howls of thanks and joy sounded. Everyone ate plenty that night and not just from Frosty's prey, but also from other hunters. Frosty lay down beside her brother and sister and the three of them fell a sleep. Raider and Safira looked pleased at them and howled a song to the sky.

While everyone went to sleep, Kael stayed awake. He was furious that Frosty was doing so well and how she was rewarded for her prey, while he had a much larger one with his team. He made up his mind about the thing that he was thinking about for days, maybe weeks and slowly walked away from the pack and lay down far away from the pack. Tomorrow he thought in himself. He then fell to sleep like the others, grinning inside. The pack wouldn't know what hit them the next day.

Frosty was the first one to wake up. She walked to her father and woke him up. 'What's wrong?': He asked. 'I'm going hunting dad': Frosty said. 'Again? Well alright but be carefull': Raider said. 'I will'. Frosty turned around and sneaked past the sleeping Frost wolves and when she reached the trees she sped up to a sprint. Far away she could hear and smell some deers. She slowed down and started to search for a good prey.

In the mean time Kael woke up and noticed Frosty was gone already. He checked with his brother to make sure she was hunting. Raider told him that she was hunting and dozed off a bit. Kael knew this was an excellent time. He walked to Mailo and Pearl who were already turning over and over to try and sleep again. They couldn't and got up when they heard Kael. 'Hey you two': Kael whispered. Mailo and Pearl looked confused at him. 'I'm only here to tell you that Frosty wants your help with the hunt': Kael said. 'Why don't you go then?': Pearl answered. 'You know I don't hunt with the likes of you': Kael snapped at them. Without paying anymore attention to him Mailo sniffed the air and together with Pearl ran in the direction of Frosty. Kael grinned, his plan was about to begin.

Frosty had caught a rabbit. It was small and therefore it wasn't needed to bring it to the pack. It was just enough for her. She ate it while she was checking if there were more preys around. Her mouth was covered in the rabbit's blood. The rabbit itself was no longer recognizable. Frosty had enough and started walking away from the rabbit, licking the blood from her face. She thought about quiting the hunt for today, but she didn't feel like going back to the pack. Suddenly she heard a sharp howl. Someone howled from being in pain. IT WAS MAILO! Frosty ran as quickly as she could towards the sound and the smell of blood she scent. She could see an open area where no trees stood. It was a round place. She ran in the open and saw a blood trail. Then she saw Mailo lying there covered in blood. His throat was slashed open. Mailo just lay there without any response to figure out if he was alive. Frosty was in shock and couldn't move or do anything. She just looked at Mailo. She saw footprints of blood walking away from Mailo and into the forest. She looked closely and tried to smell a scent that wasn't Mailo. But it was to hard. The air of the open area was covered with Mailo's scent. Not just the blood, but also the smell of a wolf who wasn't alive anymore. Frosty sank through her paws and lay down besides Mailo. Tears flowed from her eyes. She didn't have the strength to leave him or howl for someone. She knew how this was with preys, but this was her brother. Her brother who was lying still covered in blood. He was dead. She felt her heart being torn out of her chest from the pain. Then she heard a rustle behind her. Quickly she got up and turned around. She felt paralised when she saw what stood there on the other side of the open. Kael with in his mouth Pearl. He dropped her and first looked shocked, but then he remembered that he didn't hear any howls. So he knew no one else was aware yet of what was happening. Frosty looked at Pearl and collapsed in the ground. She lay there seeing these horrible things. Mailo dead with his throat open and blood everywhere. Pearl with her throat open and blood still pouring out. Pearl smelled of death much stronger. Frosty couldn't stop her tears. She coulnd't speak or howl or move. Kael looked with a grinn at her. Slowly he got closer to Frosty. While he was walking he moved some water and quickly moved it around Frosty's throat. He didn't just want to kill her, he wanted to enjoy it. The water got tighter around Frosty's throat, causing her breathing to get hard. Kael was enjoying himself and made it a little tighter. Frosty barely got any air now and with her last effort tried to break the water from Kael with her own, but she didn't have enough air to even move. Suddenly a dark shape collided with Kael and Kael was pushed away for about two meters. The water around Frosty was broken and she gasped for air. She opened her eyes and saw her father and grandpa. Raider quickly went to check on Frosty. 'Are you alright'? Raider asked. Frosty still seeing her brother and sister in her head couldn't respond and tears flowed out again. Raider and Zogar then noticed Mailo and Pearl. Both were torn apart from the inside. Kael in the mean time got up and grinned. Raider suddenly feeling rage beyond anything else charged at Kael and both started fighting in wolf combat. No powers it meant. The claws slashed each other and they bit each other wherever the could. Zogar tried to reach Frosty, but she couldn't think straight. Raider got pushed back hard and immediatly Kael hit him with a wave of water. Raider hit a tree and lay still for a few seconds. Zogar stepped in and battled his youngest son. Kael didn't feel pity for any of them and went straight for Zogar's throat. Zogar wasn't an amateur and hit Kael away with a strong ball of water. Kael didn't expect that and was thrown back. Frosty snapped out of her paralised mind and realised what she should do. She should help them. She stood up and saw her father running towards Kael. Zogar backed him up. Kael was so furious he made an huge water wall and dropped it on top of Zogar and Raider. They got washed aside. Kael walked towards Frosty. Zogar and Raider tried to stop him, but Kael had frozen their legs. Kael jumped forward straight for Frosty's throat, but Frosty jumped aside and hit him with her water whip. Kael turned around and looked furious. Frosty knew there was no escape. Zogar and Raider knew they had to do something and both howled their hardest howl. Kael looked shocked at them. He knew they were calling the pack. Quickly he shut them up by freezing their mouths shut. Frosty knew the howl didn't last long and the pack might not have heard it, because they're pretty far away. She moved from her spot and moved towards the other side without Kael noticing. She stopped and filled her longs with air. She had the wind behind her, so if she howled the wind would carry her howl further then she could reach. She let all the air escape and howled in the wind. It sounded beautifull even though the message wasn't. Kael looked suprised at her as did Zogar and Raider. They hadn't even realised she was awake from her shock. Kael knew the pack would hear this. He had to hurry if he wanted to finish the job. He walked in front of Frosty and slashed her heavily. She stopped the howl, but immediatly started again. Kael tried to bite her neck but she moved aside. Kael felt the anger in him reaching its boiling point. He didn't have time for this. Therefore he thought of a different way. All the water that lay around was perfect for his plan. He moved all the water upwards and Frosty didn't realise what he was planning. All the water splashed over her. She was soaked. Then Raider and Zogar realised. So did Frosty now. Kael put his right paw in front of him and moved it over the ground. Frosty started to make a water whip. Kael didn't even think it was worth stopping. Kael's paw moved back quickly and at that time Frosty connected the water whip with Kael. Next moment everything went black. She couldn't see, hear, smell or feel anything. She couldn't even think. Everything stopped and everything stayed black.
