FOUR BROTHERS: PART 3
Blade
"Blade, move to the right! I've told you a dozen times already, kid." Murder yelled with annoyance.
Blade's neck fur bristled with fury and annoyance himself. He'd been practicing since before dawn, and the sun was up and shining bright.
Murder kept saying how good a fighter Blade would be soon, but lately all Blade could do was smart off and boss people around.
"I'll never get it, ok?!" He whipped around and stalked away, leaving Murder glaring after him with a look that said: I knew it...weakling.
Blade merely flicked his tail in parting and speeded up towards camp. Almost a full year of living here and he still hadn't gotten the hang of the place.
Ignoring the ferns and undergrowth, he strolled on through the dark parts of the forest, his favorite. Oh sure, he could fight a bit, but Murder just wasn't...
Shaking his head to clear it, Blade just kept on. In the past half year Blade had grown larger, faster, and smarter. He stll had yet to muscle up a bit more, but that would all come in good time.
Although he wasn't in the best fighting stance, his fangs could easily go through flesh, and with some effort, crack bone. Some of the wolves in the pack already feared him for his temper, but not all just because of that.
Blade had some sort of a genetic mutation where if he was angry, suspicious, or scared, his pupils actually narrowed to slits like a cat. When ticked of or fighting his pupils just completely disappeared, leaving behind only amber.
It made him seem mad and menacing, even crazy at some times. However Silver still tried to talk with him and make friends, but Bloodclaw started keeping them separated for her own reasons. She saw Blade as a freak, while Murder was steadily loosing his patience with him.
Blade stopped walking and pricked his ears, then curled his lip. Another wolf was near...
Suddenly he hit the ground head first into the dirt, eyes wide and frightened. A weight landed on top of him, and when he was about to cry out, whatever it was lifted it's head and howled.
Blade's hackles rised and he twisted over, kicking the wolf off. "Anna! Why the heck did you do that?!"
A stunning light redish brown and tan she-wolf stepped back, smirking with satisfaction. "Because I could, furrball."
Anna grinned and lifted her head a little higher, tail up in a dominant fashion. She stalked back over to him and helped Blade to his paws.
"You're so gullible!" She laughed.
Blade pinned his ears back and growled lowly. "I'll get you for that, you know..."
"Oh," She giggled, "I'll be prepared." With that she took off and headed for camp, still having a smirk on her face.
Anna was one of the youngest guards, but she was off duty for now. Though she was a stubborn brat, Blade smiled as she left.
Anna was also his only close friend.
Chinook
The now larger, fully grown arctic white male wolf paced near the entrance of camp. Earlier he'd gotten in a fight with his best friend Suka about Kanook going mad...and Chinook had lost an ear in the process. He'd done what he could to save the rest of it from having to be bitten off by professionals, though half his right ear was gone now.
But it left a grin on Chinook's face to remember the wound he gave the massive black wolf. A fang missing, two claws broken away, a sprained ankle, and many open bloody cuts and slashes. Speeding up his pacing, he was beginning to understand that swiftness and wits were better than brawn.
Narrowing his amber eyes, he pricked his ears and lifted his head a little higher. Though he was only an Omega and a part-time hunter, he was starting to prove himself to Soro. He'd been angered with both of them, but showed his true feelings after Suka had been led away to get his wounds treated. Admiration and trust had shown in his dark eyes, no longer unforgiving black pits of distrust.
When he felt a nudge on his shoulder, he turned to see a lower ranking wolf flicking her tail towards Soro's den. "He wants to see you," She bowed, then took off to help with the newest litter of pups, sired by Soro, and born by her, who was soon to become Alpha.
Chinook stood up straighter and padded towards Soro's den, remembering to keep his head lowered and not higher than Soro's. "Yes, Leader? You called for me."
"Sit, Chinook." Soro was curled up in a shadow by himself, seeming to be lost in thought.
The white wolf did as he was told, and lay down with his head on his paws. But Soro didn't speak, and Chinook tried not to make a sound or movement. He'd try to be patient and earn more of his Leader's trust.
Finally Soro spoke after what seemed like an eternity, his dark eyes suddenly sparking in the shadows. "So you and Suka were fighting? Earlier you told me it wasn't anything series, yet he gets torn to shreds, and your ear is lost? Tell me what this is really about, and don't lie."
Suddenly he curled his lip, fangs gleaming from the dim light. "Remember I was the one who took you in this pack, and I can kick you out."
Chinook pinned his ears back slightly, and looked at the ground, tail tucked between his legs in submission to his pack leader. "Suka thinks Kanook is going mad. I think..." He sighed and continued when Soro's eyes narrowed, "I think he just has a new way of looking at things now."
Seeming pleased with this answer, Soro dipped his head. "Thank you, Chinook. Go help guard camp with the others, ok?"
Pricking his ears with excitement, he nodded and took off. "Thank you, sir!" Skidding around the corner of the den, he raced out of camp towards the borders, tail wagging. Guarding was a high ranking wolf job! Could Chinook be getting promoted...? It was hardly ever done, if ever.
But he began to slow down as he passed Kanook, who seemed to have a few scars across his face as well. Turning his head, he decided that Kanook just got in a fight with a rouge, which happened mostly every day.
Wolves around two years who decided to find a mate and make a pack of their own often wandered here, and the Guard's job was to make sure they didn't settle near them.
Well, he thought, better get to work!
