FOUR BROTHERS: PART 1
Blade
Resa was now a proud mother of three...or she was. The cold had killed off the other two, and now she only had one of her darling pups. A small little redish brown male, who's eyes were suprisingly already opened. They were a dark amber like his father's, and seemed to narrow at her in disgust.
This bothered Resa terribly...this pup's father was from a different pack, and she was also an Alpha and mate to a different wolf. Though her mate now didn't know, this puppy was not his. Had her ancestors seen her crimes, and decided to punish her by killing off the other two?
Soon she would realize the punishment-it was because that puppy lived...
Kanook
The older pup tipped his head at his mother's worried expression. Why was it that she looked like that? Why did all but one die? Why did that pup look...so hateful? Why did Kanook have dark golden eyes, and he had light amber?
Questions he wouldn't know the answers of until later.
"Mommy, what's his name?" He asked. Kanook's mother kept quiet for what seemed like a year, then spoke.
"His name will be Blade." This made some sense to Kanook, since his little brother had claws as sharp as a human's Blade. But something in Kanook's small fragile heary told him it was the pup's stare, the one that scared his mother.
He sat down beside her, and watched his new little brother whom he believed was not only half that. As soon as he stuck out a paw, Blade had snapped at him and barely missed.
As terrible as that sounds, Kanook smiled. He liked his new brother already.
Suka
The little black pup named Suka was born into a small family of one mother, and one father. When he did something wrong, his father abused him badly, while his mother just ignored it and let him whimper and whine afterwards.
Both his parents were jet black, his mother with blue eyes and father with brown-amber. Suka's right eye was blue, and the left golden-brown. He was made fun of it by other wolves in his pack.
The only friend he had was Kanook, the Alpha's son. Since Kanook's parents were good friends with Suka's parents, they had allowed for Suka to be born along with six others. His father and mother chose him randomly out of the litter, then his siblings were massacred by their own parents, along with the Alpha's help.
He was an only child now, out of a seven-pup-litter.
Chinook
Chinook was a very small, weak snow white wolf pup, but had menacing amber eyes. He was a rouge, and was older than Kanook by a month...
He proved useful to the pack when he first met them, and they let him stay. He won't ever speak of his past, and probably doesn't have one. If he did, he'll never tell...
He was pretty well known, yet ignored most of the time. He didn't mind that much...He prefered the loner life, but yet again didn't have a place to protect him.
Yes, Chinook was a coward, and he's proud of it. Why? Because he's the only one of them who knows when to come and when to go. And the Pack he's joined is stupid enough to have to feed a wolf using them for only protection.
Though Chinook was a coward, he was smart and used his wits.
Two months later...
"Oh, come on Blade! You can do it!" Kanook rolled his eyes, standing on a snow covered cliff. His smaller brother was on the other side, hesitating to jump the gorge.
"I can't do it!" He whimpered, ears pinning back. A larger, muscular black wolf stepped up to Blade's side.
"Yes you can, Blade. It's easy, watch me." He jumped the gorge with three feet to spare.
A white, smaller and slimmer white wolf nodded and came up to Blade's side. "See? Suka did it. I betcha my dinner I can make it!"
Before any of the four could say a word, he took off and lunged over the gorge. At first it looked miraculous, but afterwards he yelped and slipped in the slush. He gripped onto the side of the gorge.
Kanook stepped forward and looked down on him with a grin. "I think you just lost your dinner, dude." Suka burst out laughing and rolled around.
Chinook smirked and pulled himself up. By the time they all calmed down and turned around, Blade was gone and little pawsteps were leading back to camp in a hurry.
This only made them laugh harder and harder. "You scared the little guy away, Chinook!" Suka barked.
"Yeah, he won't be coming back for a while." Kanook smiled, though his eyes blazed. He'd been trying to be a big brother to Blade, and to make a good example for him. Chinook hadn't done very well.
Chinook flattened his ears, knowing what his blazing eyes meant. "I'm going for a walk, ok?" Kanook curled his lip, but Suka didn't see and just nodded. So Chinook walked off towards camp, following Blade's puppy pawprints.
Suka let out a loud yawn and lay down in the snow. His thick coat made him not able to even feel the harsh weather, while Kanook was shivering from the cold, and constantly shaking snow off.
"What do you want to do now?" He asked Suka, who only shrugged.
"Nothin' much to do around-" Suka cut off and they both jumped to their paws, ears pricked and tails up.
"AHHhhh!" Something screamed in pain from the camp. Kanook took off towards it first, Suka following after hesitating for a second.
They both skidded into camp, some of their fur left behind after getting caught in thorns, so snow fell down on their pelt. But they didn't bother shaking it off, for they were watching the clearing with wide eyes.
The Alpha, Soro, was standing high on a boulder in the center of camp with his lip curled in a snarl. He was rough, tough, and mean. Jet black with amber-red eyes, he could be the devil himself. His back and face had crisscrossing scars that were blood red even after years of healing, and two of his back toes were missing. His left ear was chipped, and his fangs extra sharp.
Resa was sitting beside the boulder at his side, ears flat. The small white female was watching with wide blue eyes at the wolves before them. She flicked her tail in worry, looking terribly upset.
Lying in the corner of camp was one of their guards, also in a dark pool of blood. He was holding down a small, lean, but strong white female that was snapping her jaws constantly. Her ice blue eyes peirced through Kanook's fur like knives.
A larger but young brown, black, grey and white male was held down by a second guard. Amber eyes flashed angrily, and he was trying to throw the guard off. Soro's guard actually almost backed off, and all the blood he was standing in was his own.
Soro snarled. "HOW DARE YOU?! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE, COMING INTO MY PACK LIKE THIS! WHO SENT YOU?" He was in a rage, and that was something to be afraid of.
Lunging down to the ground, he stalked towards them. Though the prisnors didn't back off, the guards shivered.
The male spoke first with a snap that made Resa jump up from her spot, fur on end. "We're here because our leader sent us!"
His comrade snarled, "I am Akela, and he is my brother Jei. Now release us, we have a message!"
Though Soro narrowed his eyes, he dipped his head and the guards backed off with relief to get away from them. Soro advanced towards Akela. "What message?"
Jei spoke up, getting to his paws with his fur bristling angryily. "Our leader Murder says that he has reason to believe that you are keeping a pup of his."
Soro raised an eyebrow, but stopped bristling in suprise. "What pup?"
Akela blinked and muttered lowly and gently, knowing he would explode after this, "The pup's mother is named Resa. Murder wants both of them to come to his pack."
Soro whipped around eyes blazing firery at Resa. She flattened her ears and made a run for the den where Blade was. Soro jumped into action and raced after her, then skidded in her way. He lunged and pinned her down, claws slashing.
"Traitor! You...You had pups with someone other than me? Blade isn't mine? Why, is Kanook not mine either!?" He backed off in shock, and maybe hurt...
Resa had tears running down her face, tail tucked inbetween her legs. "I'm sorry, I'm sorry! I didn't mean it...nothing was supposed to happen between Murder and I!"
Kanook was staring, wide eyed. Blade...wasn't his brother? How DARE Resa?! He was feeling the same anger as his father, fur bristling so much that Suka leapt back. As well as the rest of the pack, who had immediately switched their gaze to him.
He lunged and raced towards his mom, "How could you?! You're a liar and a traitor! I can't believe you!" A guard had caught him by the scruff when he was half-way there, but Kanook was still thrashing.
Jei and Akela had sat down with their tails neatly over their paws. They were watching with intrest, especially Akela, who obviously was an obnoxious, snappy female in the first place.
Suka stayed where he was, and Chinook went to his side. Both friends stared at Kanook, who was looking almost just like Soro. Both of them feared Soro, as well as the rest of the pack...So seeing Kanook like this was a real shock.
Soro was howling his anger, lashing out at trees and leaving harsh claw marks. "Dammit! Resa..." He finally broke down and lay in the snow, eyes closed.
Resa trembled, and hadn't moved an inch. The whole pack was on the edge, and everyone stayed where they were for atleast ten minutes...
Finally Soro jumped up, fur bristling, and turned to Jei and Akela, making them flinch. "FINE, take her! Take Resa! Take whomever you want! JUST GET OUT!" He whipped around and stalked to his den alone.
Kanook flattened his ears with a growl at his father. "You can send Resa, but don't make my brother go!"
Soro called over his shoulder, "Then go with them," and went into his den without another word.
Kanook's jaw dropped, as well as Chinook and Suka.
Blade had stood in the entrance of the Nursery with his eyes blazing as usual, but wide. "W-what? Daddy doesn't want me anymore...?"
Poor little Blade raced across the clearing to his mother. "Mommy, I don't want us to leave! And I want Daddy to come if we have to!"
Resa stood up with a whimper, and picked him up by the scruff. "We have to, darling." She limped for the entrance, every staring wolf moving back out of the way.
Kanook narrowed his eyes. Even if his best friend, and brother, was leaving...he wouldn't go if Resa was going too. She spit after her. "We don't NEED you! Get out of here!" He turned around and kicked up snow after her.
Suka and Chinook glanced at each other, then did the same as Kanook. They were going to help their friend get revenge, even if no one approved.
But suprisingly, all the pack started snarling and snapping at her as she went through them to the entrance of camp.
One called out, "You slut, get out!" And she raced at her and rammed her head against hers. Resa dropped Blade, and yelped.
Jei lunged forward and slammed his head into the wolf's gutt, making her jump back and the others flatten their ears.
"Let Resa leave in peace, and we won't fight you." His muscled rippled under his fur as his hackles rised. The pack glanced at each other, then backed away.
Kanook was on the ground, snarling his head off. Suka and Chinook tried to comfort him, but he bit them every time they made a move forward. So they finally sat down and did nothing.
Akela was only watching, then stood up as Resa neared with Blade back in her jaws by the scruff. Jei took the lead, and Akela guarded behind them as Resa left the territory with Kanook's only brother.
Soro let out a howl from his den, filled with anger and no longer mourn or regret. The pack lifted their heads and joined in, banishing Resa from the pack. But they all agreed, without talking, to get Blade back somehow.
Kanook and Soro's howl was the loudest of all. Suka and Chinook exchanged glances yet again, then lifted their heads and joined in just as loud. They were also good friends with Blade, and would do anything to get him back.
But Resa? No. None in the pack cared for her anymore.
Kanook swore on his life that he would get back at Resa. Though it was a foolish swear, and stupid too, he got it from his father. He inherited his father's temper...and his madness. He would soon have to tame that...but after he got back at Resa.
The pack retreated to their dens for the night, but Kanook stayed where he was. He sat in the center of camp, eyes narrowed and blazing angrily. Suka and Chinook backed off, for Kanook was growling nonstop, and occasionally snapped at nothing, licking his jaws.
Kanook's closest friends went back to their own dens after midnight, cold and tired. But Kanook stayed...not even shaking snow off his pelt.
At dawn, Soro emerged from his den, as if on a regular day. But his red eyes were dull, and he advanced toward his son.
Kanook flicked his ears Soro's way, but didn't move. His father came up and sat by his side for a while, and they kept quiet for about an hour, watching over camp.
He broke the silence. "Kanook."
For the first time since night, Kanook turned his head Soro's way, tipping it to the side. "Yes, father?"
Soro blinked, still looking straight ahead of him. "When you reach the age of one and a half, you will be my top guard, general, and fighter. When I go, you will be the Alpha of this pack. Do you accept these positions?"
Kanook felt a surge of slight happiness, that died quickly and flamed into an ambition. "I accept. Thank you, father."
Soro dipped his head. "Good. When you reach the age of one, however...you may join the battle against Bloodclaw's pack to get Blade back. But there's something else you must do during that battle."
"What is that, father?"
"You must kill Resa with your own fangs."
Kanook grinned, his fangs glistening. "I can do that."
