Andrew walked over to the old barn where he kept his sled dogs. For a man in his forties, he was very energetic, and loved to race his dogs. His lead dog, Chance, was light and dark brown, with even darker brown ears. He was a purebred husky, but he didn’t look it. Once Andrew had entered the warm barn, Chance was jumping on him.

“Good to see you too Chance!” Andrew laughed, and lifted Chance off of him. He patted Chance on the head, and headed over to the other dogs. There was Sonic, a black and grey male husk with black spots on his grey markings, Laila, a brown and cream female malamute/husky mix, Rolo, a black, white and cream female husky and Maxwell, a rust and white malamute. Andrew only had a small team, but he loved all his dogs, and he didn’t need a large team, as he didn’t do any of the major or long races that Nome sometimes held. He patted all the other dogs and put more water into their bowls and put some meat down too. Then he headed outside to clean the sled that he used for races. He hadn’t decided yet, but he saw a race advertised in the paper and thought about entering. Chance stretched and headed over to his bowl for a drink. He lapped up the cool water and took his share of the meat. He lay down on one of the many bales of straw and tucked into the raw meat.

“I’m so tired from racing, I hope that Andrew doesn’t enter that race!” Maxwell sighed as he sat down beside Chance, also eating his meat. He was the oldest, and wasn’t as fast as the rest due to his age.
“Me too, I just can’t be bothered.” Chance said between mouthfuls.
“You know what we need?!” Rolo said, flopping down on the ground. “A holiday!” The rest of the dogs giggled.
“And where would Andrew get the money for that? Sure, he’s a hard worker, but…” Sonic said. The group looked at one another.
“Well, it doesn’t have to be that far away, does it?! Maybe just out into the country for a bit!” Laila replied. Chance nodded.
“I just hope one of his friends brings it up again. I heard Donny talking to him about it.” Chance said. He walked to the rickety door of the barn. “I’m off for a walk, anybody coming?” Sonic walked up to Chance.
“Yeah, I suppose I’ll come too. It’ll do me good!” Sonic laughed, and the two headed outside. They walked through Nome’s main street, then back to Andrew’s working shed. Donny was inside, helping Andrew to clean the sled. He could hear them talking, and while Sonic walked back inside the barn, Chance stopped and listened to his master and Donny.
“Honestly Andrew, take a break, go to the country for a while, my, you could even stay in my holiday home at the foot of the mountains if you want! It has a barn for your dogs, everything you’ll need!” Donny screeched as Andrew scrubbed at the muddy sled.
“Well, I dunno Donny, imagine all the work I’ll miss, and that race—“ Andrew began, but Donny shook his head hopelessly.
“Forget about that damn race! It’s only for fifty bucks!” Donny sighed, and after a while of thought, Andrew agreed that a holiday would be best.
“I’ll just fetch the directions to my holiday home for ya’.” Donny said, and walked to open the door. Before the door was opened, Chance ran inside the barn. He didn’t want any humans to know he had been listening. He heard footsteps outside, and went to sit beside the other dogs. Andrew burst into the barn, and he actually looked excited.
“You’ll never guess what! We’re goin’ on holiday!” Andrew screamed. The dogs all barked and howled in excitement, and then Andrew left to go with Donny. All the dogs gathered around in a circle.
“Finally, he gets the point!” Maxwell laughed, and lay down.
“I know, I’ve never been on holiday!” Rolo laughed. “I’m so excited!”
“I wonder where we are goin’?!” Laila wondered.

“I hope we don’t go very far. I couldn’t stand having to go in one of those airplane things or nuffin’!” Sonic said. He was afraid of heights, and hated races that made him climb hill and cliffs. Chance laughed.
“I don’t think Andrew would have enough money to go on one of those things, let alone with five dogs in tow!” he said and sat down just in front of the door. Maxwell followed him, but pushed Chance as he sat down and made his way out the door.
“Where are ya’ goin’, Maxwell?” Chance said as he heaved himself back into a sitting position. “Going to see a girl?” Maxwell blushed as Chance said this, and then started to walk a bit quicker. Everybody laughed.
“He doesn’t let his age stop him, does he?” Laila said between giggles. Andrew walked back into the barn just as the four remaining dogs finished laughing. He was waving around a map in his hand.
“Well guys, we’re gonna be going on holiday in three days. We’ll be staying at Donny’s holiday home, the place where we went for Christmas last year.” Andrew said, dropped some more dog food into everybody’s bowls, put in more water and walked off to pack his things for the holiday.
“I can’t wait three days!” Sonic said, chasing his tail. “I’m too excited!”
“Well, we’ll have to, won’t we…” Rolo said. And yawned a bit. “I’m tired.” Soon, everybody had drifted off to sleep. That is, everyone except Chance. He looked up at the night sky, but soon he was asleep too…
It was the day of the holiday, and Andrew was just packing everybody’s things on the sled. Andrew’s wife, Beth, was staying behind to tend to other things and her cats. Sonic, Laila, Rolo and Chance were all strapped in their harnesses attached to the sled. Maxwell wasn’t coming, as something had popped up, which meant he had to say. Only Andrew knew what it was, and he didn’t think he should tell the other dogs about matters in Maxwell’s personal life. He kissed his wife goodbye, and hopped onto the sled. The dogs pulled the heavy sled, and although there was only four of them, they were all very strong, and got to the holiday home in no time. Andrew took the suitcase inside, and left the dogs outside tied up in their harnesses until he returned.
“We’d better be careful…” Sonic said, looking around. “I heard this is wolf territory…” The dogs gulped a little, apart from Chance.
“Why are you so scared? They’re our cousins!” Chance said happily. He’d always admired wolves. The way they could run free and do what they wanted, with nowhere they had to return to after their fun. At that moment, Andrew returned to untie the dogs. Once they were untied, Andrew showed them where they would be sleeping, and said they could go wherever they wished, as long as they came back each night or before they went home. Chance was glad about this: he loved the forest.
“Hey, guys, I’mma go for a walk. I’ll be back soon.” Chance said as the group were sitting n the barn where they were staying for the holiday. Without listening to another word, Chance skipped out the door.

Chance walked into the woody forest. The trees were green, but covered in pure white snow. To him, the forest was beautiful. He was so busy looking at his surroundings, he didn’t notice the white and very light grey female wolf in front of him. He bumped into her with a thud, and she fell to the ground, along with Chance. She cried a bit, and then looked at him straight in the eye.
“Ouch! What where you’re goin’, would ya’!” she said, and dusted herself off as she heaved herself onto her feet. “Who are you anyway, and why are you here, dog?” Chance stepped back as the wolf started to growl.
“I’m…I’m Chance, and I’m a husky. I’m on holiday in the holiday home near here with my master.” Chance said, stumbling over his words. This white wolf was rather attractive to him. He stood up straight.
“Who are you then, pretty girl?” Chance said, suddenly turning his charm on. The white wolf tutted, then laughed to herself. She smiled. She liked this husky, although if her father found out, he wouldn’t be happy.
“My name is Aniu, and of course, I’m a wolf. You’re pretty too.” Aniu said flirtily, and put her tail under Chance’s muzzle. Chance gulped: she smelt so nice, and her fur was soft. Aniu led Chance a bit further with her tail.
Lovestruck, Chance, of course, followed. Once Aniu had stopped, she spun round and licked Chances nose. They barely knew each other, but it felt so right. Chance lay down on the cold snow, along with Aniu.
”I’m sorry, we just met, but I…I love you…I’m just drawn to you…the only problem is, you’re a dog.” Aniu sighed. Chance sighed too, but then lay his head down. He had just had a though. Maybe the fact that he didn’t look doggish could come to his advantage.
“Y’know I don’t look like a husky, but more wolfish? We could just say that I’m a rare breed of wolf!” Chance laughed, but Aniu took it seriously.
“Of course! Dad would never know! But why would you ever meet my family? You have your own life, friends, family, a master…” Aniu sighed, but Chance shook his head wildly.
“No. I don’t want to go back. I want to stay. To stay here with you. I never did like being domesticated, and always envied you wolves for your freedom and happiness. We can start a family, if you want? But of course, we must wait. We just met. But even meeting someone is enough to know you love them…” Chance said. He heaved himself up, and walked over to a large nearby tree. It was hollow inside, and both the wolves fitted inside it snugly. They curled up inside the tree together, and slept in the warm hole until the morning sunshine crept in waking them, but suddenly something blocked the light.

Chance opened his eyes and a white, black and very light grey wolf was looking into the hole, Chance shot up, and woke up Aniu.
“Aniu, there is this strange wolf outside!” Chance barked, and Aniu slowly opened her eyes and stood up. She padded outside and sighed, while Chance followed her, a tiny bit afraid.
“Oh, Reba, what are you doing here?!” Aniu yawned, and rubbed at her eyes. Reba scratched Aniu lightly on the face.
“Mum and Dad have been worried sick, why didn’t you come home last night…” Reba screamed, then trailed off. “Who’s this?” Reba started to growl, and Chance stood up straight, trying to not look afraid.
“This is Chance, my new mate…” Aniu said, and turned to look at Chance.
“What kinda wolf is he?” Reba said, squinting her eyes at Chance.
“I’m an…um…an…Huskena Wolf. They’re…very rare!” Chance stuttered. Luckily, Reba, no matter how smart she was, seemed to believe him.
“Well, we’d better introduce you to Dad, shouldn’t we Aniu?!” Reba smirked. Aniu sighed, and followed Reba back to their home with Chance.
Chance followed the two wolves without a word, but he could still hear them arguing. He didn’t have any siblings, and couldn’t imagine having any either. He didn’t know what they were arguing about, but he could tell they were because of their raised voices. Something about him probably.
“Honestly, I don’t know what Dad’s gonna say about this. Mum will be fine, but him…he’s so strict with us…” Aniu sighed. Reba laughed cruelly.
“It’s your own fault! YOU were the one that stayed out all night with...that..." Reba said, and gestured back towards Chance. He lowered his head. He didn't like Reba, and didn't want any attention from her.
“At least somebody loves me!” Aniu barked. This was a low blow to her sister. A lot of males did fancy her, but as soon as they got to know her, they didn’t want to know. Reba gave an annoyed grunt and started to walk faster. Chance laughed a little, along with Aniu. They could now walk together. Chance licked Aniu’s nose playfully as they walked into her home. All of her pack-mates looked at Chance. He gulped a bit. A white and light grey wolf stepped out of a cave that was higher up than the rest, and had a rock leading out a bit, supported by another rock.
“Aniu, who is this that you have brought here?” said the wolf.
“Daddy, this is Chance, my new mate…” Aniu stuttered. The wolf gasped with outrage, and jumped down in front of Aniu and Chance.

The wolf sniffed the air around Chance. Luckily, after the night cuddled up to Aniu, he didn’t smell like a dog. The wolf howled, and out of the cave came a beautiful female white, light grey and black wolf.
“Cole, what is it?” The wolf said. “Oh, Aniu, I was so worried!” Aniu moved in for a hug, which the wolf accepted.
“I’m sorry Mum. I was just with my new mate, Chance.” Aniu said, and looked back at Chance, along with the wolf.
“Oh, is this what all this is about Cole?!” The wolf sighed.
“Keera, this is a serious matter. I don’t want anybody leading my daughter astray.” Cole said, and walked over to his mate. “She’s my daughter.”
“But she’s my daughter too. And this boy seems to look mature and—“ Keera began, but was interrupted by Aniu.
“Mum, Dad, why can’t you just let me make my own choices?! I’m not a baby now y’know!” Aniu barked. The two bickering parents stopped.
“But I want you to be happy!” Cole sighed, and licked Aniu’s nose.
“I am happy Dad, happy with my new mate.” Aniu said, returning the offer.
“Well, seeing as you’re happy, you can leave the pack. Anyway, what kind of wolf is this Chance. He looks like a dog, and if I found out you were with a dog, mark my words…” Cole said, and waved a clenched paw.
“Oh no, sir, I’m a Huskena wolf. We’re very rare…” Chance stuttered.
Chance gave a twirl as he spoke, and Cole and Keera seemed to buy his story. They nodded, and Aniu and Chance walked out of the clan home, and Reba just stared jealously at her sister. Why could she get someone like that for herself? Someone who loved her? Chance and Aniu walked side-by-side, and their tails were entwined with one another’s.
“Y’know what, I think I have the perfect place where we can stay!” Chance said, and without warning, took off. Aniu struggled to keep up, but she was doing well enough to see where Chance was going. After a few minutes of running through the thick forest and the deep white snow, Chance and Aniu stopped just on the outskirts of a small lake. Beside it sat a cave made of stone, but it had a plant curtain in front of it because the plant was on top of the cave but became overgrown. The two stepped inside the cave and at the back was a sleeping deer. Since Chance had really no experience at these things, Aniu crept up on it and bit down hard on the deer’s neck. It’s body went limp, and it was dead. Aniu threw it in front of Chance, but he just stared at it.
“What?! You didn’t expect there to be dog food cans and can openers, did ya’?!” Aniu laughed, joined by Chance. He shook his head.
“No, but I’m just not used to it…” Chance said and tucked into the deer. Its crimson blood was still warm, and he felt it would jump up any minute, but the meat was tender and he enjoyed it very much. After their meal, the two went to the back of the cave for a nap.

Chance opened his eyes. Aniu was still curled up beside him, but he could hear paws crunching in the snow outside, and faint talking. He heaved himself up and carefully placed Aniu’s tail on the ground. He walked to the front of the cave and peered through the green plant curtain. He could tell even from far away: it was his team-mates! Chance rushed out to greet them. He hadn’t seen them for a while, and he noticed Maxwell was present too. Rolo was leading the gang, and growled as Chance ran towards them, but once she noticed who it was, she smiled and rushed over.
“Chance! Come on, we’ve gotta leave!” Rolo said. Chance looked at her blankly. It had been three days already? Chance shook his head.
“Sorry guys, I’m not coming back. I don’t want to, and besides—“ Chance began, but was interrupted by Laila.
“Besides what?” Laila barked. Chance sighed at her.
“I have a mate now. A wolf. A lovely white wolf. Aniu. That’s her name. And she’s in that cave.” Chance said slowly. Sonic gasped.
“A mate?! A mate?! You come on holiday and get a mate?!” Sonic laughed. Chance nodded his head seriously, but everybody just laughed.
“Yes, a mate. She’s lovely. And I like living here. Like a wolf.” Chance said.
Maxwell sighed, and walked over to Chance and simply slapped him.
“No matter how much you try, no matter how much you want to be one, you’re NOT a wolf, and you NEVER will be!“ Maxwell growled. Chance sighed: He knew this was true, but he didn't really want to believe it.
"I know I’m not a wolf, but I’m living like one, and that’s how it’s going to stay. I’m not coming back!” Chance said. He walked solemnly back into the cave, and Aniu had woken after hearing all the commotion.
“Who were you talking to?!” she asked, and looked at the dogs sitting outside the cave. Aniu growled: she had heard what Maxwell had said, and was angry with him for saying so. She marched out of the cave and took everybody by complete surprise. The dogs growled lightly, but Aniu snarled as loud as she could, showing her rage. She trotted up to Maxwell and bit him on his black nose. He yelped and put a paw to it.
“How dare you! How dare you come here and talk to my mate like that, all of you, you should be ashamed! Now get out of here before I call for my dad! He’s the alpha male of these parts!” Aniu barked, and sure enough, the trespassers rushed back the way they came. Ainu sighed and made her way back into the cave, where Chance sat crying in the corner.
“Oh Chance, don’t let them bother you. They’re just dogs…” Aniu said and walked over to Chance and licked his nose.
“But I’m just a dog…” Chance cried and turned away. Aniu shifted so she could look at his face clearly.

“But you’re special. You’ve broken the mould that those dogs fit into.” Aniu said, and Chance looked up into her brown eyes: she was right.
“You’re right, Aniu.” Chance said, standing up. “I’m gonna go hunting. I suppose you’ll have to come, with my hunting skills!” He laughed, and they both headed out the door to the nearby meadow, where a lot of caribou, elk and rabbits would spend their days. Chance decided he would have to try hunting for himself. He raced towards an older rabbit and gave chase as it ran. It soon tripped over a rock, and fell to the ground. Before it could get onto it’s feet, Chance bit into it and it’s blood filled his mouth, and it was dead. Chance smiled with glee.
“I caught something, I caught something!” Chance told Aniu happily as she walked over with a rabbit of her own. She smiled, and the two picked up their rabbits and headed home. They tucked into the rabbits and then just lay around the cave cuddled up together.
“Chance, do you think…this is the night?” Aniu asked. Chance nodded. He knew what she meant. They had always wanted to start a family and he knew that it was time. He got up and walked behind Aniu, and positioned himself, ready for what lay ahead.
It had been two months: it was time for the cubs to be born. Chance help Aniu a month ago to find a place for the birth to take place, but Aniu always knew where she wanted to give birth: in the hollow tree where she and Chance had spent their first night together. She and Chance hobbled off to the tree, and he helped her climb inside. Chance stayed outside, making sure nobody could come here. Every time he smelled an unusual scent, he howled, and the creature would run off, whatever it was.
“Chance…they’re comin’!” Aniu barked, waves of pain surging through her. She panted hard, and one after an other, the cubs came. Aniu looked at them, beads of sweat still on her fur. She licked them clean, and Chance popped his head in to look at his newborn cubs. One boy and one girl. They were beautiful. The boy looked exactly like Chance and the girl exactly like Aniu. Aniu smiled at Chance.
“We need to name them…” Aniu said, still panting. Chance cocked his head and thought about what the two cubs could be called.
“Now about…Balto…and Artica?” Chance finally said. Aniu nodded happily.
“Yes…yes, those are good names.” Aniu sighed happily. After the cubs had been fed, Aniu passed them to Chance.
“Take them home. I’ll be along in a minute…” Aniu said quietly.
“Are you sure I can’t help you?” Chance said concerned, but Aniu shook her head. Chance picked up the small cubs carefully and raced to the cave. If the cubs got cold they would surely die.

After a few minutes of running, Chance came to the cave. He rushed through the plant curtain and went to the back of the cave, where it was warmest. It looked like a few humans had been there, as there was a small fire still burning in the corner. He was lucky they were gone. Chance sat down close to the fire, and put down Balto and Artica on his front paws. The two of them sniffed his paws then Chance moved them to his tail and covered them up with it to save them from getting cold. After a while, the cub’s had fallen asleep under the warmth of their father’s bushy tail. Chance sighed, and walked over to the door. He looked out, but there weren’t even any fresh footprints from the snow that had just fallen. Chance headed back to the cubs and put his tail around them. He also tucked his head into his tail and fell fast asleep.
“Chance…Chance…I’m here…it’s ok…” Aniu’s voice said. Chance jolted his head and opened his eyes. Nobody there. He must have been dreaming, but then a ghostly figure emerged in front of him. It was Aniu!
“Aniu, boy, am I glad to see you!” Chance said, wiping sleep from his eyes.
“You’ll not be glad once you touch me.” Aniu said, as Chance reached out to her. He touched Aniu’s normally furry body and felt that she was a ghost.
“No, NO, it can't be!" Chance cried, and touched Aniu again, but his paw went straight through her. Without thinking, he rushed to the place where he had last saw Aniu alive, and he saw what he didn't want to see: a lifeless Aniu slumped inside the hollow tree. Chance rushed towards her. He knew she was dead, but didn't want to believe it.
“Dies giving two more life…” Chance sighed. He put his paw over Aniu’s eyes and closed them, since they were open. He broke down and cried, sitting beside her. He licked at Aniu, and huddled himself around her: she was still somewhat warm. Then Chance remembered: he’d left the cubs all alone in the cold stone cave. Chance hoisted Aniu over his shoulders, he couldn’t just leave her there, could he?! He rushed back to the cave, and luckily the cubs were still lying sleeping. He breathed a sigh of relief, and put Aniu’s body down in the corner of the cave until he decided what to do. As soon as they heard their father stumbling around the cave, Balto and Artica woke up. They saw their mother, and not knowing she was dead, crawled over to her. They started suckling from Aniu. Chance laughed sadly as he looked at them.
“You won’t get anything, it’s no—“ Chance began, but then Balto looked at him: his little face was covered in milk. Chance cocked his head, but then remembered: if she was still warm, she’d still have milk. Chance smiled a bit, and laid his head on his paws. Then he remembered that he’d have to tell Aniu’s parents, and her sister, that Aniu was dead. Chance sighed, and went over to Aniu’s body and slept against it while the cubs did the same.

The next morning, Chance woke bright and early. Without waking the cubs, he moved them from beside Aniu and put them down on the other side of the cave. He picked up Aniu’s lifeless body, and took it outside. He dug a large hole, and tipped Aniu inside. This was her grave. Chance picked a flower from nearby and put it on the grave.
“Rest in peace, my dear.” Chance said, almost crying. Now he had to tell Aniu’s family about her death. He went in to grab the cubs, and made his way to Cole, Keera and Reba’s home. Once he had reached the familiar circle of caves, Chance put down Balto and Artica and howled. After a while Cole walked out the higher cave and onto the rock, and was then joined by Reba and Keera. Cole looked at Chance, and saw Aniu wasn’t there. He shot Chance a steely glare.
“Where is my daughter?” Cole said in his harsh voice. Chance gulped.
“Cole…Keera…Reba…Aniu is…is…Aniu is dead…” Chance cried.
“What! It can’t be!” Cole barked, there were tears in the family’s eyes.
“And…and…I’m a dog!” Chance yelled. Cole’s faced filled with rage.
He looked down at the cubs and figured it out for himself: he had wolf-dogs for grandchildren! He would be the laughing stock of the whole forest if this got around! He resisted the urge to jump down and attack Chance, since there were cubs sitting there, but he would have no mercy.
“I won’t attack you, I’m too old for such things, but if you don’t get out of here, I WILL sent someone to do it for me.” Cole growled.
“How could you pretend to my sister that you were a wolf?!” Reba barked.
“Well…that’s the thing…she knew all along…” Chance said. Keera sighed.
“I’m sorry about this Chance…” Keera cried. “But you must leave.” Chance picked up the cubs and turned around to leave.
“Oh, and I don’t mean just go back to your cave. I mean get out of my territory all together!” Cole barked before going back inside his cave to weep. Chance sighed, and started to walk. He turned around, and saw Keera looking straight at him. Chance sighed again, turned around and continued to walk. Where would he go now? He wouldn’t be able to see Aniu’s grave ever again, never mind actually seeing Aniu. Before he actually went anywhere, Chance put the cubs down and drunk out of a nearby puddle. Suddenly, fog closed in all around him. He smelt it: it smelled just like Aniu. He turned around, wanting her to be there, but all he saw was more white fog. He sighed.
“Aniu…Aniu, is that you?!” Chance yelled. He turned around again and saw Aniu’s head, but it was made of fog. In fact, it looked exactly like her.

“Don’t be afraid my dear…” the fog Aniu spoke. “I’m sorry…but it was my time to go. Always remind the cubs of me. Don’t let them forget…” the fog Aniu started to fade away, along with all the other fog.
“No, Aniu, don’t go! ANIU!!!" Chance yelled, but she was gone. Tears welled up in Chance's eyes, but he wiped them away with his paw. He picked up Balto and Artica, who were play-fighting together. Chance laughed but sighed at the same time. He looked around: which way should he go? After a while of thought, he decided to go in a north-westerly direction. As he walked, a snowstorm began. Chance sighed: he couldn't keep walking with two cubs in this kind of weather. He looked around for somewhere to wait until the storm calmed. Through the snow that was barreling down, he saw an old tree log. It wasn't ideal but it was the only thing Chance could see. He trotted over to it and squeezed his way inside, along with Balto and Artica: it was the perfect fit. The two cubs fell asleep almost immediatly. Chance sighed sadly, and put his head on his paws and closed his eyes to sleep. The next morning it luckily wasn't snowing, but snow covered the entrance of the log. Chance used his paws to dig his way out, and took the cubs by the scruff of their necks.

Chance kept walking. He had heard from a raven that there was a cave somewhere up Mountain Pass, a treacherous place where many sled teams had taken their last breaths, either because of being attacked of falling off the ice path that they had to use to get up the mountain before heading downhill. It didn’t sound the best of places for a dog and two wolf-dog cubs, but it was the only place the raven had seen that was free, and she always flew around everywhere. Chance had originally thanked the raven, but once he started up the icy path to get to Mountain Pass, he wished the raven had told him how dangerous this was. His grip on the cubs was tighter than ever and he watched were he stepped, as he had almost fallen when a piece of ice that his front paw was on broke and fell to the rocky ground below, and the ground was a very large drop away. Chance gulped, but continued to make his way up the path. After fifteen minutes, he had reached Mountain Pass. He headed on inside and looked around for the cave. He finally found an empty cave, and it smelt like it hadn’t been used for a long time. He stepped inside the small cave and put the cubs down. He sighed, and lay down to sleep. The cubs played with each-other for a little while, but then also decided to sleep, although they were wary of their new surroundings.
Chance pricked up his ears. He had heard rustling in the bushes that were outside his cave. Suddenly, two dark wolves bolted into the cave.
“This is our cave now, get out!” yelled one of them, a black, dark grey and white wolf. He picked up Chance and threw him outside.
“Loki, there’s cubs in here!” The other wolf said, the same colours as the first but with different markings. Loki gasped.
“Well get them out of here Leonadis!” Loki yelled. Leonadis did as he was told, and picked up the cubs carefully. He gave them to Chance.
“I’m sorry about this dog…” Leonadis said to Chance. “I’d get out of here before Loki comes out.” Chance stood up, but Loki rushed outside and knocked Chance off of the edge of the cliff. Chance, luckily, caught the edge and help on for dear life. The cubs were still in his mouth as Loki towered over to him. Chance looked over at Leonadis.
“Take them!” Chance screamed. Leonadis just looked at him.
"TAKE THEM!!!" Chance barked again. He was losing his grip and sure enough, Leonadis walked over and took Balto and Artica from Chance's mouth. Tears were in Chance's eyes, as well as a scared look on his face: he knew he was going to die. Loki snapped and snarled at Chance. He was losing his grip as every second went by. He looked over at his beloved cubs for the last time he was alive.
“I love you. Always remember that. And your mother does too…” Chance said. He lost his grip completely and tumbled to the hard ground below.
