Cold

By Ahura Werewolf

The wind howls

causing the snow to whip around me

I look at the sky and in the small break in the clouds

see the Northern Lights shining brightly

I lay my head back down and look at the dark prone forms on the ground

Silver tears come to my eyes

They slip down my fur, freezing to it

Red fur flashes into my mind

Her soft body against my own

The beat of her heart.

I try to move myself but the pain

shocks through me like lightning

blurring my vision for a second

My breathing becomes labored

I think of just giving myself to the soft cloak of death

to be taken away from my body

but she haunts me and keeps me rooted to this life

I fall asleep and wait quitely

As morning comes

the sun warms me

my heart fills with it

I hear the barking and howling of the approaching team

I am going home after all

back to my love
