Blaez The Beta Male

Book 3: Spring

Part 1

Blaez slowly opened his grey eyes and looked up to see Azure standing in front of him with a wide smile on her face. Quickly jumping up Blaez looked at her and smiled.

‘Azure you’re alright!’ Blaez said looking up at his friend.

Nodding Azure said quickly ‘Thanks to you Blaez.’

‘The pleasure is all mine.’ Blaez said nodding as he looked past her towards the forest in the distant. Winter was now over and the ice and snow had melted making the entire Shangkai pack lands a lush new area.

‘Our pack lands look more beautiful then I’ve ever seen them’ Azure said as she turned around following Blaez’s gaze.

‘I don’t understand why it has gotten so lush in such a small amount of time though…’ Blaez said sounding very confused and shaking his head as JD slowly walked up beside them. ‘I see you looked after my friend very well.’ Blaez smirked at JD who returned one of his own.

Night who was sleeping nearby heard the wolves talking and slowly stood up and walked over to Blaez before looking out to the Shangkai pack lands.

‘Indeed it is a beautiful land.’ Night nodded before continuing. ‘My lands offer much of what you seek as beauty as well my friend’

All the wolves looked up at Night as JD looked around before looking confused. ‘Pardon me saying this but rocks and more rocks?’

Blaez had only known the mysterious Night for a few weeks at the most but he knew there was something different about him; he really was one of the Night Packs members. One day in the not so distant future Blaez would ask him about the fate of the Night Pack but for now he knew it wasn’t the time or place.

‘Let me show you…’ Night said standing up and walked away from the wolves who looked at each other before they quickly followed him.

A few moments later Night quickly walked past some large rocks far from the area which the wolves usually stayed and once Blaez walked past the rock his mouth gaped open at the sight before him. Water which was still melting from the mountain peak was flowing down the mountains edge in a small channel that had been cut out of the rock after thousands of years. The water flowed down the small channel and down a small waterfall as it descended further down the mountain, but what most surprised Blaez was the small green plants growing on the water edge, it was like an oasis in the midst of a rocky mountain.

‘It’s beautiful Night.’ Azure said looking up at Night who sighed and nodded.

‘Yes indeed one time I thought the same thing, but at times like this I believe that nothing can be considered so until the Shangkai pack who cast darkness over my land are destroyed’

Turning around Blaez looked behind him to see whether or not Akela had followed them up but to his sadness she had not. Ever since he had doomed Jate to a not so good looking fate Akela hadn’t spoken to him and believed him to be a traitor.

Akela, Saffron, Keaton and the other wolves were on the same page and refused to talk to him, they still blamed him even though he tried to explain what happened, they refused to listen. The only wolves who seemed to value his friendship, company and his innocence were Night, Sage, Azure, Konnor and JD but even then Blaez knew that unless they worked together they would never be able to defeat the Shangkai Pack who had almost killed him and his friends twice since they had arrived back to their old home.

Slowly Azure and JD disappeared leaving Night and Blaez looking at the small river before Blaez turned to Night and asked.

‘Have you seen Konnor I haven’t seen him for awhile?’

‘I have not seen your friend who continued to avoid contact with your other friend.’ Night said turning to look at Blaez who tried not roll his eyes. Night always seemed to use more words then he needed to, and sometimes Blaez didn’t understand his sayings, ever since what was left of his pack had been killed he seemed to have retreated away from everyone focusing only on one thing; destroying the Shangkai Pack.

‘I’m going to go find him.’ Blaez said standing up and walking away leaving Night watching his reflection in the water and not saying as Blaez disappeared.

‘When my children are old enough they will help me kill ever wolf that tries to disobey our rule!’ Torren said smiling down at his two small pups as Dusk looked up at her mate.

‘What shall we call them?’ She said gently smiling.

‘Sariah and Ronan’ Torren said smirking as both him and Dusk looked down at their tiny pups.

Part 2

As Blaez was looking for Konnor he saw Akela sitting down on her own near the entrance to a small cave. Frowning a little Blaez was about to walk away but stopped himself and sighed before walking up to her; they hadn’t spoken in days.

‘Hello,’ Blaez said looking at Akela who didn’t turn around or say anything. ‘Look I’m looking for Konnor maybe you’ve seen him?’ Blaez continued but still Akela didn’t anything.

Frowning again Blaez started to walk away but stopped when he heard her speak.

‘This isn’t going to work…’ Slowly she turned around to look at him.

‘What do you mean?’ Blaez asked and glanced back at her.

‘We can’t work together on this any more, me and my pack need to work alone to against the Shangkai pack…’

Blaez instantly swung around and walked up to Akela who refused to look him in the eye.

‘You saw what happened to the Night-Slayers and they had more wolves then all of us put together we need to be together in this’ Blaez argued as Akela finally looked up at him.

‘We leave tomorrow…’ With that she stood up and began to walked away before Blaez called out to her.

‘Where will you go?’ Akela stopped and glanced back at Blaez.

‘I’m not sure…’ Slowly Akela disappeared as Blaez looked after her, one side of him being stubborn and wanting to stay put whilst another tried to push him forward to go after her but his stubbornness won and he just stood there.

‘What going on I heard yelling?’ Konnor said walking down towards his friend who sighed and looked up at him.

‘Akela is leaving.’

‘What!’ Konnor gasped ‘why?’

Blaez sighed ‘because she thinks I betrayed her when I turned Jate in to Torren’

‘We all know it was by mistake…’ Konnor frowned ‘…besides we don’t need them right Blaez?’ He turned to Blaez who nodded before sitting down looking after Akela.

The next day Akela, Keaton, Saffron and some of the other wolves left the safety of the Night Pack’s lands with only Night, Blaez, Konnor, Azure, JD and Sage left standing on the rocky land as the pack lead by Akela disappeared in to the darkness of the night. Konnor turned to Azure who looked at him and frowned before walking up to JD and sitting beside him making Konnor frown as he looked away.

‘What are we going to do now Blaez?’ Azure said looking up at Blaez who had a distant look in his eyes as he looked down at her.

‘Nothing.’

‘What!?’ She said looking at Blaez who turned away from them.

‘We’re going to wait till the end of Autumn then we’re going back home.’

‘We are home Blaez…’

‘No we’re not’ Blaez snapped looking back at her ‘This isn’t our home it’s the Shangkai pack lands now and we can’t defeat them, we’ll never defeat them.’ With that Blaez quickly walked away from the others as he walked to the small stream Night had shown him earlier.

Standing beside the stream Blaez looked down at his reflection and sighed to himself. Who was he kidding? Torren was to powerful, the whole Shangkai pack was to powerful and with their numbers cut in half there was no chance they’d be able to defeat them, they were fighting a losing battle and he knew it.

A cold wind blew past and as Blaez shivered he turned and noticed that Night had walked up beside him and turned to look at him.

‘Your show of defeat has greatly effected your followers.’ Night said.

‘They’re not followers, only friends but they need to learn the truth, the truth hurts sometimes.’ Blaez sighed and looked down at the ground.

‘Truth it self doesn’t hurt my friend it’s what it means and how you deal with it that does.’ Night said looking away but Blaez didn’t say anything as Night sighed. ‘Giving up hope was what doomed my pack long ago…’

Blaez looked up at Night who looked down at his reflection before he continued.

‘My pack lived in peace for many years, my father Sirius was a powerful Alpha who let our pack blossom in to what it was, but he also proved to me he wasn’t as strong as we thought he was. When your pack went missing and the Shangkai pack invaded my father tried a truce with them to let our pack lands live in peace, we are not fighters Blaez we are mystical wolves nothing more nothing less. Torren being heartless as he is pretended to agree with my father and one night whilst me pack sat and watched the stars he surrounded and murdered my pack, only those who ran away like cowards escaped…’ Night sighed ‘…like me, I was a coward for letting down my pack, letting down my father.’

‘So you created the Night-Slayers?’ Blaez asked looking at Night.

‘I believed pretending to be something I knew my pack wasn’t would redeem my name, prove to myself that I wasn’t a coward, but fear clouded my mind, I didn’t listen to reason and in doing so I once again am a coward for killing my pack and escaping with my life.’

‘You can’t blame yourself for any of this…’ Blaez started before Night laughed out aloud.

‘I should have died, I should have fought along my father instead I doomed them all, that’s why Blaez I know I will not let you or anyone give up because regret is worse then failure my friend, believe me…’

Looking down at his own reflection Blaez turned back to Night but when he looked up Night had disappeared. Laying down beside the river Blaez sighed as he rested his head on his paws as the cool water splashed on his face as he thought about what Night had said and about Akela…

Part 3

Water splashed on Blaez face causing him to wake up only to realize that it was night and the stars were out. Looking down at his paws he noticed that the small river seemed to have risen slightly. Raising an eyebrow Blaez quickly stood up and walking in to the small river and began to follow it upstream, he walked for awhile before he turned around small block and noticed a large piece of ice in front of him with water coming from underneath it.

Slowly Blaez looked up to notice the large block of ice rose high in to the sky, all the water that had been on the top of the mountain when it froze over was holding out in the huge glacier size block of ice. Stepping forward Blaez looked in to the dirty ice and suddenly stepped back and gasped to himself. The glacier was starting to melt from the inside out, the inside was mostly liquid ice.

The small river was coming from the bottom of the glacier because it was beginning to melt and he knew that as Spring went on and the weather warmed it would only be a short amount of time before it burst flooding the entire Shangkai Pack lands. It had been a killer Winter so Blaez wasn’t to surprised that that much snow and ice had been built up high in the mountains that overlooked his old lands.

Quickly Blaez padded down the small river till he reached a spot where he could over look the lands and as he looked down his shocked look turned to a smirk. Slowly Blaez walked back on to the land before walking away, it looked as though mother nature would do the work for him.

Azure watched as JD quickly padded away to go hunting leaving Azure sitting down looking out for Blaez and this was when Konnor quickly took his chance as he walked forward towards her and sat down beside her. Looking at him Azure was about to get up and walk away but Konnor quickly jumped and stood in front of her but she refused to look at him.

‘Please talk to me Azure.’ Konnor said as Azure looked up at him.

‘Why just so you can talk back about me and JD?’ Azure huffed.

‘No Azure, I just wanted to say I think it’s nice you and…JD’ Konnor managed to say as their eyes met for a moment.

‘Really?’ Azure said blushing under her coat.

‘Yes but just let me say something to you first…’

‘Blaez’s back everyone!’ Sage yelled out causing Azure and Konnor to turn and see Blaez walk out from some rocks with a smirk on his face.

‘Why are you so happy Blaez?’ Azure asked smiling at her friend who looked at her and Konnor.

‘Yeah Blaez a few moments ago you were all angry?’ Konnor laughed.

‘No reason it’s just that I believe by the end of Spring the Shangkai pack will be taken care of.’ Blaez said proudly as everyone gasped.

‘How?’ Konnor said stepping forward towards Blaez.

‘You’ll have to wait and see’ Blaez joked as he watched Night appear from the shadows at the corner of his eye. Shivering for a moment Blaez had a strange feeling that Night knew exactly what Blaez was thinking but how could he?

That night whilst all the wolves sat under the stars and were talking Blaez noticed Sage being very quiet and slinking away and no one except Blaez seemed to notice. Standing up Blaez quickly followed Sage wondering where he was going and why he always excluded himself from talking to others,

Sage was sitting beside the small river as Blaez watched him for a moment before walking up and sitting down beside him. Ever since he’d known Sage he had been very shy and it was only now that he was starting to talk more that Blaez was starting to know him better.

‘Why are you out here on your own?’ Blaez said walking up and sitting down beside Sage who looked up at him.

‘I like to be on my own that’s all.’ Sage lied as Blaez looked down at him knowing instantly that Sage wasn’t a good liar.

‘Why did you stay with us and not go with Akela?’ Blaez asked looking down at Sage who looked up at him.

‘I feel as though we have a greater chance to defeat the Shangkai pack then we do with Akela.’

‘Why would you say that?’ Blaez asked questionably as Sage mentally shrugged and didn’t say anything.

‘When I was only a pup my mother died very early, and my father was killed by the Shangkai pack…and I want to defeat them to prove to them I’m no coward and avenge my father’

‘You’re not a coward Sage never think that you are!’ Blaez said surprised as Sage looked up at him with the exact same grey eyes and at that split second Blaez looked down at Sage realizing that this could be his long lost son.

‘What pack were your parents from?’ Blaez asked looking down at Sage with an excited look on his face.

‘My father was from the land that is now under control of the Shangkai pack…’ Nothing else that Sage seemed to say mattered as Blaez looked down at his son.

‘Sage…I…I…’ Baez started standing up for a moment before stopping himself, he couldn’t tell Sage yet he didn’t want to Sage to know that he was his father, if that happened Blaez was afraid that Sage wouldn’t believe him, would he lash back and call Blaez a liar and Blaez knew it would be harder to protect him if Sage knew that he was his father. Looking down at his son Blaez sighed as he finished ‘…I think you should come back and talk to the others with me, we need you to start opening up a little.’

Smiling Sage stood up and started to walk back towards the others and as he did Blaez noticed for the first time how much he resembled his mother Kia but had his eyes, how could he haven’t have seen this before? Sage was his long lost son…

Part 4

A few weeks went by with the wolves starting to learn how to train in fighting from Night who despite his old Packs quest for peace was quite an effective fighter if you could understand and follow what he was saying. The small river had grown in size and everyday when Blaez went to see it he discovered the hole at the bottom continued to get larger and large fractures started to appear along the ice. The creaking sound echoed around the entire area but only Blaez seemed to here it, was it a guilty mind?

‘Any news on Akela and the others?’ Blaez asked turning to Konnor who shook his head.

‘I haven’t seen them for weeks who knows where they are.’ Blaez sighed as he turned to see Night walk up beside him.

‘Blaze we need to talk…’ Night looked at Konnor ‘…alone’

Frowning Konnor stood up and walked away as Night turned to Blaez.

‘Are you going to tell me now?’

‘Tell you what?’ Blaez asked looking up at him.

‘I know this land better then any other living wolf today…’

Blaez looked up at Night and sighed. ‘I admit this year we had a very harsh winter…’ Thinking for a moment Blaez began to walk away, ‘Follow me.’

Night and Blaez quickly walked towards the large glacier and when Night saw it he gasped as he cranked his neck to look up to the very top before turning to Blaez.

‘So this is what you were talking about.’ Night said as Blaez nodded. Smirking to himself Night looked at Blaez, ‘Brilliant idea’

‘What?” Blaez said rather shocked, he thought that Night was disapprove but he had been wrong?

‘Finally we will rid the land of these wolves.’

‘I thought that you’d rather fight and not be a coward and let some thing else do the work for you?’

‘I’m already a coward my friend, but when the shadow that haunts our lands is gone so shall my cowardice, all we must do is wait till it cracks flooding the entire area killing every Shangkai wolf for miles around.’

Thinking for a moment Blaez quickly turned around and looked down towards the valley which would be flooded but before he could say anything he heard someone call his name.

‘Blaez…Blaez…’

Quickly bounding towards the voice Blaez stopped when he saw Akela standing beside the river looking up at him with her navy blue eyes.

‘Akela you came back.’ Blaez said sounding happy as he smiled.

‘I’m not here to stay I’ve brought news…’ Blaez looked a little disappointed ‘…Torren and Dusk have had pups.’

‘How does that concern us?’ Blaez asked.

‘I’m not a hard wolf Blaez, I will kill Shangkai wolves in an instant but whether you or I attack first I do not want any young pups harmed if they are you will face me.’ Akela said with a frown on her face.

‘I’d never hurt innocent pups.’ Blaez said shaking his head.

‘I didn’t think you would Blaez but I have to be sure because to much innocence has already been lost I do not want any more to disappear.’ Turning around Akela began to walk away but Blaez quickly ran after her and stopped her.

‘Before you leave please tell me where you are, just incase.’

Akela looked back at Blaez and sighed before saying ‘We’re beside the Shangkai pack lands monitoring their patrol if you need us come see us.’

‘What if I said I need you now?’ Blaez said looking after Akela who turned back around and walked away leaving Blaez on his own as she looked after him.

Azure and JD watched from the side as JD turned to Azure ‘Why don’t they just admit they like each other because we can all see it…’

‘I don’t know JD,’ Azure sighed as she looked over at Konnor who was play fighting with Sage who seemed to be winning.

Running back to Night and the large glacier Blaez skidded on the slippery rocks beneath as he stood beside Night who didn’t look down at him.

‘How long do we have till it’s going to break?’

‘Weeks, days, hours…’ Night said almost in a whisper.

‘I need to warn Akela and the others!’ Blaez said as he quickly ran away leaving Night looking up at the huge glacier not noticing how cold the water was that was running pact his paws.

Part 5

‘Akela you have to trust me!’ Blaez argued as Akela, Saffron, Keaton and the other wolves all looked up at him.

‘Look Night said it could be weeks there is no point in leaving now, for all we know it could happen in a month from now.’ Akela said back.

‘He also said it could happen in days, now I want you and everyone else to come back with me!’ Blaez said looking at all the wolves who started to whisper as Keaton stepped forward.

‘Look Akela said no and so we’re staying and there’s nothing you can do about it!’ Keaton sneered at Blaez who frowned as he looked down at him.

Stepping forward in front of all the wolves Blaez looked at them before saying. ‘Everyone listen to me this entire valley will be flooded every wolf that’s here will be killed!’

‘Does that include the Shnagkai Pack?’ Saffron asking stepping forward towards Blaez who nodded her head at her. ‘That means we no longer need to be here trying to find a weakness.’ Saffron said turning to Akela who frowned at her.

‘That’s enough Saffron, Night has already proved to us that he was wrong so he could be wrong again, we are not leaving and that’s final’ Akela said looking at Blaez as Keaton stepped forward and nodded.

‘Alright then but I will not come and warn you again’ Blaez said looking at Akela before turning around and walking away as the wolves behind Akela broke in to another whisper.

‘Don’t worry everyone Blaez just wants to try and prove himself, don’t let him scare you!’ Keaton said turning to the wolves as Saffron slowly walked up to Akela as they looked at each other sharing evil glares.

‘This will on your head, Alpha…’ Saffron sneered as she walked away leaving Akela suddenly looking unsure as she looked after where Blaez had disappeared.

‘Ronan come back here.’ Dusk said as Ronan started to crawl towards the entrance of the den whilst his sister Sariah slept beside her mother.

Torren who had just walked in to the den picked up Ronan who grunted annoyingly as Torren dropped him back beside his sister who suddenly woke up and frowned.

‘Any luck my mate?’ Dusk said looking up at Torren who smiled.

‘Those pathetic fools are outside our borders, but our wolves also reported that Blaez and some of the others are not with them.’

‘Do you think they split up?’ Dusk ask questionably as Torren sneered.

‘I hope so without that Blaez they’re nothing, that stupid wolf Akela is to forward, something clouds her mind but that’s the only weakness we need to kill them.’

‘When will you attack?’ Dusk as Ronan started playing with his mother tail.

‘Tonight.’ With that Torren quickly ascended above the den to gather some of his strongest warriors whilst Dusk and her pups rested lazily in their den.

That night Blaez looked up at the night sky not being able to sleep his head was filled with to many thoughts. He thought killing ever Shangkai wolf would be a blessing for everyone but if he left innocent pups to die as well as Akela and the others would it still be worth it?

‘Can’t sleep my friend?’ Night said looking down at Blaez who sat slowly sat up.

‘I must have blood from the Night Pack in me’ Blaez joked.

‘The wolves of my old pack used to watch the stars during the night and we hoped that Sirius the dog star would always keep us safe, but all that was just false and it’s only now I realize that.’

‘I have made up my mind of what I’m going to do Night’ Blaez said standing up and looking out into the distance. ‘I’m going to warn the Shangkai pack.’

‘You can’t do that!’ Night suddenly snarled surprising Blaez who turned to look at him.

‘I’m not going to let any young pups die that have no quarrel with me or what I’m doing here’

‘Those pups will grow in to killers, and sometimes I wonder what you’re really are doing here’ Night snarled as he walked forwards towards Blaez and whispered in his ear. ‘If you help them I promise I will kill you’

Frowning Blaez watched as Night walked away, there was something Night wasn’t telling him and he was going to find out and as for the Shangkai pack Blaez knew that it could used to his advantage, if Torren promised to leave the land Blaez would tell him about the danger so he could escape, but if Torren didn’t agree then he was going to face an ultimate doom.

Hearing a rustle in small ferns nearby Blaez quickly turned around and growled thinking it was a Shangkai wolf but who he saw was Saffron looking at him.

‘Saffron what are you…’ He was cut off because Saffron interrupted.

‘Blaez Torren attacked us he’s kidnapped some of us…’

Blaez gasped as he walked forwards towards Saffron. ‘Where’s Akela?’

‘I don’t know I couldn’t see…’

Running forward towards the area where he knew the others were sleeping Blaez quickly turned to Saffron before saying ‘Go find Night and tell him to meet me in the cave right away!’ With that Blaez ran in to the darkness as Saffron ran to find Night, it looked as though any deal Blaez was thinking of having with the Shangkai wolves was all but gone.

Part 6

‘What are we going to do?’ Azure asked as all the wolves gathered together looking at Blaez who was in deep thought as he paced from side to side.

‘We have to go rescue them.’ Konnor said nodding and standing up.

‘I agree with Konnor we have to attack now.’ Saffron jumped up nodding her head.

‘That’s what he’ll be wanting us to do’ Blaez sighed turning back around as he stopped pacing and sat back down trying to think of what to do. ‘Now listen to me I want some of you to patrol the border of the Shangkai pack lands and when the wolves are released you can lead them to higher ground…’

‘Wait a minute…’ Konnor said walking forward ‘How do you know that Torren will just let them leave? I haven’t known the wolf for long but trust me he won’t let the biggest threats he has just leave like that!’

Blaez sighed as he looked at the wolves. ‘I have something to confess, many weeks ago I found a huge glacier of ice on top of the mountain and I believe that soon it will break sending a vast amount of fresh water flooding the entire land killing every wolf stuck there.’

Everyone gasped as they looked up at Blaez.

‘Why didn’t you tell us?’ Konnor said looking disappointed.

‘I thought I’d protect you, I thought that the water would do the work for us but now that they have captured the others we have no choice but to rescue them’ Blaez said looking back at his friend but before any of them could say anything the ground seemed to shake for a moment.

‘What was that?’ Azure said looking unsure as they all turned to the small river that flowed down the mountain and to their horror it was starting to rise at a quickening rate.

‘Please listen to me, I know I let you down I know I was wrong but if we don’t work together now Akela and the others will die.’

The wolves seemed to consider the options for a moment before Azure and Konnor finally stepped forward beside Blaez.

‘You’ll always be my friend Blaez but that doesn’t mean I can’t hate you for a little while.’ Konnor joked and laughed as Blaez looked a little unsure as though not sure if he was really joking or not. The other wolves all looked at each other before walking forward towards Blaez who sighed in relief as they did.

‘Now listen to me this is what’s going to happen…’ As Blaez talked all the wolves nodded and agreed and after awhile they all quickly ran to their positions except for Sage who stopped and walked up to Blaez.

‘Why do I have to stay here I can help really I can,’ Sage said in a low voice as Blaez looked down at his son, he didn’t want his son to be hurt so he had made him keep watch of the river to howl when it finally broke.

‘I need someone to stay here it’s an important job so…Sage’ Blaez quickly corrected himself as Sage looked questionably up at him before nodding. ‘Good luck’ Blaez said as he quickly jumped around and ran down towards the Shangkai pack land his plan was in motion.

Slowly Blaez crept through the forest which was slowly starting to come back to life after the harsh winter they had just had. It wasn’t long before a scout found Blaez wondering through the forest.

‘Torren will be very pleased with me for finding Blaez the wolf.’ The wolf sneered.

‘I’m sure…will you take me to him?’ Blaez asked sounding sarcastic as the other wolf laughed.

‘Yes and he’ll deal with you right now.’

‘Good…’ Blaez said under his breath as he obediently followed the Shangkai wolf through the forest towards Torren’s den.

Once he arrived he instantly saw Akela and the others under guard by a few large wolves who snarled at Blaez as he walked past but Blaez ignored them as he smiled at Akela who just looked very confused.

Torren walked out from his and once he saw Blaez he smiled and walked forward towards him, he was at least a head higher then Blaez but Blaez just looked up at him with an unconcerned look on his face.

‘Oh dear look who we have here…’ Torren smiled as he looked at the scout who had brought Blaez and motioned him to go away. ‘Come here to save your pathetic friends eh?’

‘You will let them go.’ Blaez said in a calm voice as Torren laughed to himself.

‘I don’t think so.’

‘No just listen to me first…’ Before Blaez couldn’t finish Torren quickly jumped forward and slashed at Blaez with his huge paws, Blaez didn’t have time to react as he stumbled back as the side of muzzle began to bleed where Torren had hit him.

‘I’m not listening’ Torren sneered as Blaez regained his balance and frowned.

‘If you don’t listen to me you’re all going to die!’ Blaez yelled as Torren took another step forward.

‘Oh no I don’t believe we’re the ones going to die.’ Torren smirked.

Part 7

Slowly from the den nearby Dusk walked out with her two tiny pups at her heels as they hid behind her legs looking up at Blaez who looked down at them. Before any of them could say anything the ground seemed to shake for a moment causing all the wolves but Torren to look worried.

‘If you don’t believe me what’s that?’ Blaez said quickly.

‘A simple earth quake…’ Torren said rolling his eyes as he jumped forward knocking Blaez off his feet but Blaez still didn’t fight back as he slowly just stood back up. ‘This is going to be easier then I thought.’

Suddenly the ground shook madly and a faint howl was heard in the distance causing Blaez to look back towards the mountains with a worried look his face.

‘Torren look towards the mountains!’ Blaez yelled.

‘You can’t fool me with that…’ Torren started but Blaez interrupted.

‘JUST LOOK!’

Slowly Torren looked towards the mountains and when he squinted his eyes he could just make out what looked to be something rushing down the mountain.

‘It’s simply an avanlche it won’t reach here’ Torren said shaking his head and looking back at Blaez.

‘Are you willing to take that chance and put your pup’s lives in danger?’ Blaez said looking at the small pups who were cowering underneath Dusk obviously scared because of the Earthquake. Torren seemed to be thinking hard until Dusk said angrily.

‘He’s lying lets finish them now.’

‘No…’ Torren didn’t take his eyes of Blaez ‘we’re leaving now.’

‘What how can you…” Dusk started but didn’t get to finish.

‘Get the pups and we’re leaving right now!’ Torren yelled at a taken back Dusk who quickly picked up one of her pups whilst another female Shangkai wolf picked up the other one. Looking over at Blaez Torren growled but didn’t say anything as he and the other Shangkai wolves reared around and began to run away from the oncoming wall of water the ground shaking madly beneath them.

‘Blaez you did it!’ Akela said sounding excited but Blaez quickly stopped in front of her and the other wolves.

‘We have no time quickly follow me any injured will be helped by the others once we reach the border…hurry!’ Blaez said as he turned around and the others began to follow him through the trees all running so fast that that they thought they were flying.

Once they reached the border Saffron, Night, JD, Konnor and Azure waited and once they saw the others break through trees they quickly helped those who lagged behind as Blaez and the others ran as they started to ascend upwards in to the mountain ranges the ones opposite to the one where Sage was now waiting for them.

‘We’re going to make it!’ Konnor said excitably as he jumped in the air looking behind him noticing that they would just manage to outrun the water.

Blaez smiled as he ran but suddenly he heard a strange sound and skidded to a stop as all the wolves except Akela and Night stopped beside him.

‘What are you doing we have to go?’ Akela said panting slightly.

‘I can hear someone…’ Blaez said stopping and turning around the water in the distance edging ever closer destroyed the land as it did. ‘Keep going I’m going to check it out.’ Blaez said as he quickly turned around but Akela jumped in his way.

‘No please come with me to safety.’ She begged looking at Blaez who shook his head.

‘No go Akela I promise I’ll be back.’ Blaez said looking up at her.

‘I’m holding you to that’ Akela said smiling and looking at Blaez before she turned around and began to follow the others but Night didn’t.

As Blaez ran in to the forest he saw Night beside him and laughed to himself ‘I’m guessing I can’t make you turn around can I?’

‘If you need help I see no fitter wolf to accompany you.’

As the two wolves ran they stopped when they saw something moving in the trees nearby, Blaez looked at Night before he slowly walked forward and looked shocked at what he found. In some of the small shrub was a small puppy, and he instantly knew that it was a Shangkai wolf because of it’s markings.

Slowly Blaez bent down and picked up the small wolf in his mouth before turning to Night who looked shocked.

‘I thought I told you I’d kill if you tried to save them…’ Blaez looked a little worried as the small pup began to cry ‘…but you’ve saved your other friends which I thought was impossible as well so I can’t blame you my friend, an eye for an eye?’ Blaez seemed to sigh in relief as both he and Night began to run forward the water still rushing towards them.

Just as they began to ascend up in to the mountains the water over took them swallowing them as it crashed in to the rocky mountain.

Part 8

A whimpering sound made Blaez slowly open his eyes as he saw the small pup who was huddled in front of him crying and shivering from the cold icy water that had swallowed them. Blaez was aching all over as he slowly stood up and looked around him and noticed that the water had destroyed almost everything around him and had resided back in to a large lake in the middle of the Shangkai territory.

‘Night!’ Blaez yelled out as he looked around him not seeing him any where in the mess of branches and rocks. ‘Night!’ He yelled again but as he listened he didn’t hear a reply as he slowly sat back down hanging his head low as the small pup walked up to Blaez and huddled against his front paws.

Slowly Blaez bent down and picked up the small pup as he started to walk still looking for any sign of Night but as he did the hope of him seeing his friend again vanished.

It wasn’t long before the others found Blaez and they all walked back to the mountain ranges behind them where Sage was waiting for them and was very happy to see them alive.

Azure and Akela looked after the tiny pup as that night Blaez laid down on his own looking over the Shangkai pack lands which were a mess. He didn’t notice as Azure walked up beside him and laid down beside him.

‘How are you?’ She asked.

‘I’m fine just very sore and tired.’ Blaez admitted as he looked up in to the sky.

‘I just wanted to thank you for saving me and others.’ Akela said looking down at the ground.

‘It was no problem I couldn’t let you die, but I also let the Shangkai Pack escape,’ Blaez sighed ‘It was my fault that Night died, it’s just like Silver I keep letting them down.’

‘You didn’t let him down he chose to help you,’ Akela said softly but Blaez didn’t agree as he looked up in to the sky as the star Sirius which Night had shown him only a few days earlier seemed to shine much brighter than before.

‘There is no one left of the Night Pack now…’ Blaez sighed. ‘Its one more pack that Torren has destroyed and once again I was powerless to stop them from doing this.’

‘Don’t blame yourself..’ Akela said as she slowly nuzzled Blaez who smiled as he looked down at her as they both looked up at the Sirius star which shone over the entire area.

The small pup was asleep and as Azure watched it sleeping and smiled to herself Konnor slowly walked forward and up beside her.

‘Hey Azure…’ He said as she looked up at him and sat up.

‘Hello Konnor’

‘I need to say something to you…’ Before Konnor could finish Azure quickly nuzzled him making him looked shocked as he looked down at her.

‘Don’t say anything Konnor, please?’ Azure said as she smiled up at him and Konnor smiled down at her.

Meanwhile Torren was the only wolf awake as he looked down at the land which was almost completely destroyed and he couldn’t help but think as he looked down that Blaez had saved him, his pups and his pack but he knew that didn’t mean anything because next time Torren saw him he’d still kill him…

The last half of spring flew by with both packs training for the upcoming battle. Blaez used everything Night had taught him to show the wolves who practiced day in and day out knowing that during the Summer weeks the final battle would occur and the fate of Aleu’s pack would be in the balance. Blaez knew that he either destroyed the Shangkai pack or else his pack would not make it another year in the new land, it was now or never to keep his promise to Aleu and the pack that he would save them.

After having found his long lost son Blaez knew that the journey to find his only daughter had begun and he wanted to find her before the final battle which he knew he would not make it out of alive.

The new small pup Blaez had found was now getting used to his new pack and enjoyed playing with Konnor who acted like a pup himself. They named the small pup Night after the wolf who had helped rescue him in the hope that the small pup would keep alive Night’s memory as well as the memory of the mysterious Night pack whose mysteries would never be solved.
