Balto (The Revelation)
Chapter 4 – New Serious Friend
The morning was felt great this day. The
sunshine shone brightly around the surroundings, signaling every creature to
get up. Even the quite town like Nome had to wake up from its
deep sleep. While everyone at there was busy preparing themselves in order to
face a new day, a bright red car passed the street. It moved slowly until
finally, it stopped in front of luxury old house. Just because the design was
old, didn’t mean it was small. The house itself was bigger among the others.
The car before then parked inside the yard, followed by a little girl with pink
dress that came out from it. A female red husky then followed her outside.
“Alright, Saba!” she started, patting
dog’s head, “You can go and play out. I need to rest first from our vacation.”
The red husky then just barked to
reply it. She quickly went outside, walking while sightseeing what she had
forgot about Nome. She still remembered what
she had done before. Her girl’s family had a vacation at Florida for 1 week. At there, she
could feel how much the heat she took. She felt very hot, but she was glad she
already back. The nice cold seemed friendly than hot.
“Ugh…”she thought, “I don’t want to go to Florida again.”
Saba then trotted forward,
heading to her mother’s home. She thought it was fantastic when knowing her
mother was the most beautiful dog at Nome, while her father was a
wolf who saved this town from diphtheria. She admitted she looked like her
mother. While she was thinking, she met her mother on street.
“Hi, mom!” Saba greeted, “It’s good to see
you again.”
“Saba…” Jenna looked happy, “How
are you? Do you feel happy at there?”
“You mean Florida?” Saba asked, shaking her head,
“Oh, mom! You won’t believe me. It’s so hot at there, I can’t stand it.”
“At least, you’re here now…” Jenna
replied, chuckling.
“Yeah…” Saba smiled, “By the way, how’s
dad going?”
“Well…” Jenna looked hesitated.
After listening long explanation from
her mother, Saba quickly rushed away without hearing more. She didn’t know her father
was attacked by wolves. She didn’t know 2 wolves helped her father. But even
she didn’t know much, she could try to find out why it happened.
Running fast to the outskirt, Saba then headed to her
father’s boat. She ran in haste, trying her best to get there. She quickly
climbed to the top when she already reached it. Instead of finding her father,
she met an unexpected person. She then accidentally bumped to that one. When
she looked at it, she saw a male gray wolf was standing in front of her.
“Are you alright?” the grey wolf
asked, “You’re not hurt?”
“Yes, I’m fine…” Saba answered.
“So…” the grey wolf looked at her,
“Who are you? What are you doing here?”
“I’m Saba, daughter of Balto and
Jenna. I’m here to see my dad,” Saba answered back, “So, who
are you? And, what are you doing here?”
“I’m Luka…” Luka replied, smiling,
“I’m watching over your father.”
Saba then was thinking for a
moment. She had heard from her mother that 2 wolves, one male and one female,
had already saved her father from those vicious wolves, yet she really needed
to check it first.
“Are you the one who saved my father?”
she asked.
“Yes, I am…” Luka answered, “I believe
you want to see your dad soon, but unfortunately, he went outside just a few
minutes ago.”
“Oh, I see...” Saba seemed disappointed, “By
the way, why you’re still here?”
“I just wanted to ensure the area
surroundings are safe,” Luka explained, “So, I’II stay here until he comes
back.”
“Then, what will you do if my father
comes back?” Saba asked more, starting curious.
“I will go to check the surroundings,”
Luka answered simply.
“Wow!” Saba laughed, “You’re very
serious about protecting. You sure need to relax a little bit.”
“Relax?” Luka was puzzled, “What if
the enemy attacked again? If that happened, I should act quickly. So, I think I
don’t have a time to relax.”
“Well…” Saba was looking for reason,
“Then, how about play? Everyone needs to play to get refreshed.”
Luka just gazed at Saba. He really didn’t
understand the way she thought. She only thought that everything would be fine.
As a wolf, he couldn’t do that. He couldn’t drop his guard, even for just 1
second because the danger was always lurking around. He then walked to the edge
of boat, thinking the best answer suited for Saba’s question.
“I never play around…” he started.
“What?” Saba was surprised.
Saba couldn’t believe what she
heard. Was that true or not, only Luka could tell. She then slowly crept behind
him, positioning herself. Even she didn’t know that Luka had already noticed
her, yet he ignored her by still gazing the surroundings.
“Maybe, I can help you…” Saba said, then pushing forward
to Luka from behind quickly.
Luka who alarmed at Saba’s sudden move quickly
dodged it. He moved aside with his great reflex. Saba who didn’t predict this
was shocked to see she headed to fall. Luka wanted to help, but it was too late
because the red husky had already fallen. She hit the ground below, but
luckily, the ground itself wasn’t too hard for her. She then was groaning for a
while.
“Are you hurt?!” Luka yelled from top,
then going to where Saba had fallen, “I’m so sorry I couldn’t help you.”
“I’m fine. Just a little shocked…” Saba replied, shaking her head
to get back her vision, “Beside, it’s not your fault. I was wrong because I
wanted to push you.”
“Why you did that?” Luka asked
curiously, “You could make someone hurt, especially yourself.”
“I… I just wanted to have some fun…” Saba was hesitated.
“Fun?” Luka looked uncertainly, “I
think it’s not fun. It’s dangerous. If anybody…”
“I know that…” Saba interrupted, “I just
thought you need some fun. You know, like laughing.”
The grey wolf only gazed deeply at
her, trying to understand what she meant. She might not know what danger could
face her, but he also knew she meant no harm to anyone. After he was thinking
for a moment, he then walked closer to her.
“I’II escort you back to the town…” he
started.
“Huh?” Saba looked puzzled, “Why?”
“It’s just too dangerous for you to be
here,” Luka explained, “You could hurt more than this.”
“Well…” Saba was thinking for a while,
“Okay, if you could catch me, then I’II back happily.”
Before Luka could tell his opinion
about it, Saba had already left. Even she wasn’t a good runner like Kodi, she did it
just to play around. Luka had no choice, but to follow her immediately.
Being an experienced creature in the
wildlife, Luka quickly ran closer to her. When she almost reached her, Saba quickly turned left from
behind him. The grey wolf must start from beginning once more due that sudden
move. After almost slid down, he began chasing her again from behind. Although
she was much slower, she had good agility. Luka knew he had to plan a strategy.
While Saba was running happily, Luka
followed her move. Instead from behind, he followed from beside. He then just
kept close to her until suddenly, Saba turned right. Knowing it,
Luka quickly passed her then stopped in front of her. The red husky was
surprised, breaking but her paws still brought her to move forward. She then
bumped him for second time, but the wolf still stood firmly.
“Now…” Luka started, “Will you go back
home?”
“Fine, then…” Saba answered simply.
Saba began turning around,
heading to the town. Luka who expected some struggle was surprised to see the
red husky just followed his request. Meanwhile he thought about it, he saw a
smile across her face. Why she smiled in that way? Luka only could guess.
“May I ask you something?” he suddenly
asked, making Saba turned to him, “Why you can still smile after what happened? Why you
still can feel safe although there might be danger threatening?”
“Well, I don’t know for sure, but…” Saba explained, “I just believe
that everything will be fine.”
“You just believe?” Luka was
uncertainly.
“Yes, how about you?” Saba asked.
Luka was silent for a minute. He
didn’t respond at all. When they was near at outside of the town, he stopped.
He then looked at Saba, motioning to many houses in front of her.
“We’re here…” he started, “You can go
home now.”
“Thank you,” Saba replied, “By the way,
thanks for playing with me before. That running game was so fun. Maybe, we can
do it again.”
While Saba began fading from Luka’s
sight, he didn’t think what he was doing before was playing. He just did what
he had to do. Actually, he learned much from that red husky. He learned about
how to play, how to know fun. But, it seemed didn’t suited for him because
playing meant unaware about everything around. Yet, he thought for one thing
that was said by her. One thing he had forgotten.
“Believe…
I think I can’t believe…” he thought.
