Balto (The Revelation)
Chapter 16 – Help Wanted
“They’re so many…” Balto started,
glaring back at black wolves.
“Yeah…” Luka replied, knocking another
black wolf, “They keep coming, right to you, Balto.”
“I guess they’re my huge fans,” Balto
chuckled, tired of fighting.
The caves were terrifying. Everywhere
they looked, their eyes always met some black wolves. With Balto beside Luka,
the attack was concentrated around them, trying to touch Balto but the grey
wolf wouldn’t let them to do freely. Luka seemed already exhausted, yet luckily
some of their fellows came at the right time. As soon as they knew the black
wolves were heading Balto directly, they concentrated on defense around Balto.
There wasn’t much to do because many of them already hurt.
“We can’t keep fighting like this!”
Balto shouted, informing Luka and other wolves, “Sooner or later, they will
break into defense!”
“I’m agree, Balto…” Luka replied,
watching his fellow friends leapt to black wolves, “But I don’t think we can
escape easily from this. They already outnumbered us.”
“If only there was some help…” Balto
gritted his teeth, “We need that help badly…”
The brown wolf didn’t have a choice
but to continue to fight. Even he and Luka were already exhausted, starting to
faint from war, yet he must push his body more than this. It was necessary
until the war was really going to end.
Out from their sight, a hooded figure
stood on top of caves, watching the fight carefully. Unlike the hooded figure
before, this one just like human. It wore cloak overshadowed its face. The
black wolves noticed this stranger, but they couldn’t reach the place because
the hooded figure was out of reach. Suddenly without warning, the hooded figure
came down across the wall, hopping swiftly until it made its way to behind
Balto. The brown wolf was surprised, same as Luka and the others.
“Looks like you need help…” the hooded
figure started, throwing something into the air.
The thing that the human threw in the
middle air suddenly broke up, releasing a flashed light through everyone. For a
moment, everyone’s eyes were shut tightly, closed because the brightest shine
they ever saw. Balto’s eyes slowly opened to reveal some black wolves ahead
were having same thing just like before. The black wolves letting their pain
echoed through air, grabbing their own heads badly. For Balto and the others,
they didn’t know why they acted so, but this was a great chance to give counter
attack.
“Balto!” Luka called, seeing the
chance, “We can push them now!”
Balto began to move again, yet
suddenly two polar bears came from nowhere, rolling and smashing the remaining
black wolves. The brown wolf then noticed the polar bears looked familiar to
him. One small and one big. He realized then it was Muk and Luk, some friends
of him.
“Wow, Luk! This is great, isn’t it? We
finally can crush some bad guys…” the small polar bear started, followed by
nodding by the bigger polar bear.
“Muk! Luk!” Balto interrupted, talking
to the small one known as Muk, “What are you doing here? It’s very dangerous
here!”
“We know. Right, Luk!” Muk replied,
followed by nod from Luk, “But she forced us to track you down. She’s really
looking for you…”
“She?” Balto was confused, then
realizing who she was, “Don’t tell me it’s…”
“It’s Jenna!” Muk continued, smiling
to Balto.
“Oh,
no…” Balto thought, grabbing his head with his paw, “I never thought she would come this way.”
Before he could think it more, the hard voice from Luka suddenly wake
him up. He realized the war wasn’t end yet. He still needed to fight. Even he
wanted to do it, he must find Jenna first. If she was hurt, he really couldn’t
forgive himself. Trying to track her, Balto had to fight his way to find his
lovely mate. The activities around the caves gradually had been decreased, but
still, he saw nothing of her. The impatient wolf rushed away, but someone
suddenly tapped his shoulder.
“Hi, dad!”
“
“Yeah! I’m with Kodi also…”
“Then…” Balto began impatient, “Where
she is? We just can’t sit down here doing nothing. We have to…”
“Calm down, dad!” Kodi suddenly cut
off, coming in from behind, “Mom’s safe now. Do you think we both will let her
do the same thing before when she saved dad from bear?”
“Kodi?” Balto was surprised, going on
the topic again, “Oh… yeah… I’m… I’m glad she’s safe… I’m… just…”
“Pardon me…” Luka suddenly
interrupted, still glancing at the enemies, “I think it’s not the right time to
have a family reunion.”
“We guess so…” Muk came into view all
of sudden, “Right, Luk!”
“Okay, then…” Balto replied, getting
spirited, “Let’s finish this! But… Please, be careful.”
All of them nodded together. For
Balto’s children, they understood well why he kept saying it. For them, he was
the greatest father they ever had. The fight echoed around, but now, it was
time to turn the table. With many of black wolves hurt because the flashed
light, all of remaining wolves have the advantages to sweep them for good.
“RETREAT!” Kanto suddenly spook loudly
to all of black wolves, “NOW!”
With only two words from him, the
black wolves suddenly halted their attack. They seemed obeying him completely
by just looking on how many the increasing black wolves that were getting out
from the caves. It continued until there were none of them, nothing unless
Kanto, the black and white wolf himself. He stood at the entrance, gazing
deeply at Balto. His gaze seemed deadly enough, giving hatred to him.
“I will settle this later…” he spook,
and then leaving from there.
“Yeah!” Kodi shouted, “Get out from
here! If you dare to…”
“Kodi?” Balto cut off, looking at his
spirited son.
“What?” Kodi replied, “I’m just kind
of barking at him.”
Balto felt relieved for a moment. The
danger had already passed. When he looked around, he found many wolves were
hurt, wounded badly. He quickly ordered everyone to check them, ensuring they
was okay. The caves escaped its chaos already. While they were checking
everyone, Reina came to them slowly. Her wounds looked bad, bleeding from her
own body.
“Reina!” Luka was shocked, “Hang in
there, Reina!”
“Luka…” Reina replied, leaning over
Luka, “I’m alright, Luka. You should worry about the other wolf.”
“How could I?” Luka asked, smiling at
the white wolf, “Look at you! You’re still bleeding! We have to stop that!”
“He’s right!” Kodi suddenly
interrupted, “You should worry about yourself first.”
“Kodi?” Reina was surprised, “Why
you’re here?” I haven’t seen you before.”
“Well, I’m full of surprise…” Kodi
answered, making both of them laughing.
The grey wolf quickly made the white
wolf laid down, ensuring she didn’t move. Even she looked fine enough, the
blood made the grey wolf worried her. Both of Kodi and
“Luka…” Reina smiled weakly, “Please
check the Alpha… I had seen Kanto went into his room before.”
“Kanto?” Luka’s face looked serious, “He’s
back?”
“Yes, Luka…” Reina replied, “I’m
afraid he already did something to the Alpha. You know how much he hated him.”
Luka was thinking for a moment. He
then came up for a decision. The grey wolf quickly was heading to the Great
Hall, entering the Alpha room. His fear suddenly came into him, overshadowing
his heart. If Kanto came to the Alpha directly, it just meant revenge. Slowly,
he stopped his steps, watching every guard he met already woke themselves. It
seemed Kanto had succeeded to do his plan. By the way, he knew how much strong
he was. For every guard in there, they was nothing compared to him.
“Sir!” he called, looking for the
Alpha, “Where you are?”
“I’m here…” came a great wisely voice
to him.
“Sir, are you okay?” Luka asked
worriedly, rushing closer to him, “Kanto was here before, so I thought…”
“I know…” the Alpha cut off, staring
at Luka, “I know he was here before… and he was so mad at me…”
“So, what happened?” Luka asked
curiously.
“I almost go to heaven, but…” the
Alpha explained, but halted as soon as he remembered the incident before,
“There’s nothing to tell. Just let me rest for a while…”
“Alright, sir…” Luka replied, then
leaving the room quickly.
The Alpha stared at vanishing grey
wolf. He looked forward until there was no one at there. He then glanced above,
memorizing what happened between the dangerous times. Even he seemed calm, his
changing mood couldn’t hide completely. He sighed, and then suddenly, he turned
around, getting much rest than he needed for. The incident had already made him
tired. Tired to act and tired to think.
