Balto (The Revelation)

Chapter 15 – Chaotic Cave

The time had been moving for three hours. Since Balto and Boris stopped to talk each other at safe place, the atmosphere were quite terrifying. The kids were already sleeping silently. Their mind was drifted away as long as they closed their eyes. But they didn’t know what happened at outside. Both of Balto and Boris could hear the quarrel outside, even just a little sound.

“Balto…” Boris started, “What will happen to us?”

          “I don’t know, Boris…” Balto answered, growing worried, “I just don’t know…”

“Well, I believe we will be fine,” Boris replied, patting Balto’s head, “Don’t you think so…”

“Yeah, I… guess you’re right,” Balto smiled.

Boris felt relieved a little bit. Things were going to worse but they mustn’t be affected. In order to protect the young one, they had to keep all little wolves safe. Before they could relax more, a cracked sound from entrance halted their action. When they gave a look, a black wolf was standing at there.

“What?!” Boris was shocked, “Balto, how can he…”

“I found you…” the black wolf snarled, showing his sharp teeth.

“Boris, quick!” Balto ordered in panic, “Get the kids away!”

“Don’t worry…” the black wolf interrupted, “We’re only looking for you. You’re the one that my master needed. Anyone else beside you should end in vain.”

“What?” Balto looked angry, “How dare you?”

Balto’s anger quickly heated up, boiling to his patient limit. He couldn’t even think this wolf couldn’t value the precious life. How many lives had already wasted just for this revenge? He couldn’t take this more. The brown wolf then quickly rushed to the black wolf.

          “Balto!” Boris shouted terrifiedly, “NO!!!”

“TAKE THIS!” Balto cried loudly, ramming to black wolf at full speed.

As the impact, the black wolf was smacked off from the field. He was thrown out to middle air, rolling for few times at ground before stopped. Slowly, the black wolf woke up like he forgot his pain already. He moved closer to Balto, but didn’t touch him even the single fur.

“Balto, run!” Boris exclaimed, but Balto’s anger didn’t pay attention at him, “Balto…”

“I’m tired of hiding…” Balto snarled, “I’m tired of escaping from this. If you really want me, just bring it on!”

“As you wish…” the black wolf replied, rushing to Balto.

The brown wolf then quickly avoided the first incoming, but failed to see the sudden move. That black wolf rammed him, throwing Balto a few feet away. He slowly got up, but he was bumped hard for a second time before he could stand. At this rate, he barely woke up.

“Still get up?” the black wolf smirked evilly.

“I’m still not finished yet…” Balto replied, getting up quickly to unleash his claws.

With no warning, Balto dug his claws and teeth to black wolf. He kept attacking him, still angered with the words before. Slashing and leaping repeatedly until the black wolf managed to flee. Balto had done the best, yet the black wolf didn’t show his blood. Instead of hurt, the black wolf was smirking evilly.

“It can’t be…” Balto thought, “He still doesn’t hurt at all. How it can be?”

“You’re quite good…” the black wolf was ready to leap, “Now, it’s my turn…”

The black wolf leapt into him, flying on middle air to show his deadly teeth. He was ready to tear, but a bright light suddenly flashed from nowhere. The flashed light made Balto and Boris surprised, moreover when they gave a look to the enemy, the black wolf seemed hurt badly. He kept grabbing his head, crying loudly in pain until he made his leave quickly from there. That thing just made Balto and Boris confused of what happened.

          “What happened?” Balto asked curiously.

“I don’t know…” Boris replied, raising his wings, “I just know that… flash light… and then that black wolf ran.”

“Well… it’s kind of weird, but…” Balto felt relieved, but suddenly he spotted a hooded figure behind him, “Who are you?”

Balto couldn’t tell the hooded figure was a dog or a wolf due to covered-cloak. He couldn’t know too if this figure was male or female. All he knew was the hooded figure just appeared suddenly after that weird light. Boris who was confused moved closer to Balto.

“Who is that hooded figure, Balto?” Boris asked.

“I don’t know…” Balto answered, whispering silently, “Perhaps, it’s also one of enemies.”

The hooded figure stayed calm for few minutes before suddenly, it left quickly from the room with its four feet. For a while, Balto and Boris remained silent until there were only two of them. The brown wolf then headed to entrance, going to find out the mysterious figure.

“Boris, take care of the kids…” Balto pleaded, going out, “I’m going out for a while.”

“But, Balto! It’s dangerous at outside there!” Boris warned loudly.

“I knew, Boris,” Balto replied, turning around and smiling to Boris, “I’ll be fine. You know me, don’t you?”

“Oh, Balto…” Boris smiled, patting Balto’s head for once again, “Be sure to come back…”

Balto smiled. The brown wolf felt relieved after what happened. But now, he needed to go out there, finding out who was the mysterious figure. One clue for him was it had four feet just like him, yet he didn’t think it was the best clue he had for the first impression. At the final, he then went out, finding more shock as soon as he reached the outside.

          “It’s horrible…” Balto thought deeply.

At where he stood, he could see everyone was fighting for their safety, struggling to the end. Some friends he knew were already at battlefield, slashing and biting with black wolves. The intense of war was killing him. At this point, he couldn’t different which one was friend and enemy. All looked same within his eyes.

“Balto!” Luka suddenly came to him, looked tired of fighting, “Do you need something? I’m kind of busy right now…”

“No, Luka!” Balto replied, back to back with him, “I just feel it’s not safe anymore in there, so I guess I’ll take a walk…”

“Take a walk?” Luka chuckled, watching the war was still going on, “I’m sorry, but it maybe hard to get one of that now.”

“Yeah, I know that,” Balto replied.

While the two of them were talking, two black wolves were coming right to them. At first, Luka took a quick attack by ramming to one of black wolves, continued by knocked the head. The opening made another black wolf came into him, but luckily blocked by Balto. The brown wolf had already made a progress by helping his friends. He quickly took a chance of surprise attack, doing direct hit to black wolf.

“Thanks…” Luka started, amazed by Balto’s movement.

“You’re welcome,” Balto replied, continuing back to back with Luka.

Both of two wolves kept doing their strategy, defeating as many as they could. The war was still raging on, but inside the Alpha chamber, the situation was quiet. Too quiet for this room. A black and white wolf came into it, walking among defeated guard wolves. He then moved closer to the Alpha, facing face to face.

“You traitor, Kanto!” the great old white wolf as the Alpha started, glaring angrily to black and white wolf, “You sold your life to darkness!”

“That wouldn’t happen if you handed Aniu to me!” Kanto, the black and white wolf, snarled, “You know I love her. You know I’m destined with her. But, why you just let her go with that…!”

“That wasn’t my decision!” the Alpha cut off loudly, “I never wanted this happened, but you already knew that Aniu chose him, not you.”

“YOU’RE THE ALPHA!!!” Kanto snarled angrily, “YOU’RE HER FATHER!!!”

“Even I’m her father…” the Alpha hung his head down, “I can’t make her follow my rules…”

Kanto couldn’t take more pain into his heart. He suddenly smacked the old white wolf hardly, throwing him far. The Alpha tried to get up, but his sudden pain gave him a weight to his head. Moreover, his increasing age made his spirit decreased gradually. He barely could see the enemy forward.

“I’ve already dreamed this…” Kanto started, holding his paws, “The day I’ll do my revenge to you. You already broke my dream. You broke everything in me!”

“I…” the Alpha tried to speak, but failed.

“Now you will see…” Kanto continued, “You will see that every wolf in here is going to heaven quickly!”

“NO!” the Alpha interrupted, getting up hardly, “If you want my life, just take it. But leave everyone alone…”

“Sorry…” Kanto replied, “But this is Lord Shogun’s order…”

Before he could leave the Alpha in vain, a hooded figure suddenly stood in front of him. Kanto was startled, greeting this unexpected guest. The same just happened for weakened Alpha which barely could see who was that. The wind at caves suddenly blew hard, revealing the face of hooded figure. It was a dog. And it was a male.

          “You!” Kanto fell in shock.
