Balto (The Revelation)
Chapter 11 – Leaving
“What
should I do now?” Balto thought deeply while the sun had already risen.
The brown wolf just was lying down
while doing nothing. His only work now was just in his mind. He knew it was
already morning, but he just felt he didn’t want to go anywhere. His head was
trembling right now. Since the incident before, he didn’t dare to go to town.
Not worrying about his life, but just afraid of his family. What if they
attacked them?
“BALTO! Wake up!” Boris shouted
loudly, almost startled him, “It’s morning and you’re still sleeping…”
As usual, the Russian goose never gave
him a chance to relax more. Balto then rolled up, staring at his friend.
“Boris…” he started, “I’m not sleeping
anymore. I’m thinking of something now.”
“Thinking?” Boris eyes flickered,
“Something? Well, that’s unusual. Do you have problem in your head, Balto?”
“Yeah…” Balto replied, rolling down
and getting up at his feet, “It’s about the incident before…”
“The incident before?” Boris gulped, remembering
back when those vicious wolves chased him.
“I was thinking, Boris…” Balto looked
seriously at Boris, “What if they harmed my family? What if those wolves did
something that I couldn’t ever imagine to them? If they do, I’ll never forgive
myself…”
Boris then suddenly felt sympathy to
Balto. The goose self knew how important his family to him. Mentioning about
Jenna, his mate, he didn’t believe Balto could get her attention and finally,
having also a family with her. That was out of his imagination. He moved slowly
to Balto. Walking step by step above rusty wooden boat, patting Balto’s head.
“Balto, don’t you worry…” he said,
smiling at Balto, “Your family is always safe. You want to know why I’m so sure
about that? It’s because they have humans, unlike you, they’re completely
protected.”
“But, I’m still…” Balto interrupted.
“No, Balto. Don’t say anything again…”
Boris cut off, locking Balto’s word with his wings, “I guess you better see
your family now. Talk with them and I’m sure you’ll feel relieved after it.”
“But, I’m not so sure…” Balto excused
himself, but quickly swept away by Boris mop.
“Go, Balto! It’s for you own good…”
Boris continued after smacking him a little with mop.
The brown wolf then just gave Boris a
slight smile, and then he was going to the town. Slowly, he vanished in it. The
white goose smiled after that.
“Do you think he can overcome that?” a
voice suddenly echoed from behind of him.
Boris quickly turned around and found
that another friend stood before him. The grey wolf, Luka, then also sat beside
him. With Boris, he was watching where Balto went from boat.
“I’m perfectly sure he can overcome
many of his problems…” Boris started, starting to grab mop and sweeping the
floor again, “That’s what I thought.”
“I guess so…” Luka replied, looking to
the sky, “I believe he can…”
Without looking anything again, he
then turned around, facing a great problem within his own mind.
“If
not…” he thought, “I must get him out
from here quick before they got them first… moreover ‘Him’…”
“Balto?” Jenna asked, noticing his
unusual condition, “Are you alright? You seem troubled.”
“What?” Balto was startled, “I’m fine.
Really, I’m perfectly okay…”
“Oh, okay…” Jenna hesitated.
Balto then took a deep breath
silently. He had been in Jenna’s house for an hour, watching how she played
with her girl. In addition, Kodi and
“What’s wrong with daddy?”
“I don’t know…” Kodi answered, “He
never like that before. What’s happen with him, mom?”
Jenna only fell in silent. She didn’t
know the answer, but seeing his tears before, she knew he had a problem.
Without waiting any longer, she quickly stepped forward, wanting to catch him
soon but halted as soon as her girl landed at her back playfully.
“What’s the matter, Jenna?” Rosie
asked, giggling, “Are you tired?”
“No,
I’m not, Rosie…” Jenna answered in her mind, “I’m just worrying Balto…”
It was already dark. The sun had
already gone. Balto had been silent for many hours at his boat, doing nothing
but kept sighing. He just lied down like he didn’t have any work to do. And
that was what Boris worried about.
“Balto!” he yelled loudly at Balto’s
ears, making him shocked for a second, “What are you doing? You don’t look like
yourself today. I never see you sighing everyday.”
“Well…” Balto sighed, “Then, you just
see it that I like sighing now.”
“Balto, you…” Boris replied, but cut
off quickly by Balto.
“Boris, please!” Balto suddenly
shouted, “I… I just don’t know what I have to do now… to protect my family… to
get them away from me… to…”
“Oh, kiddo…” Boris moved closer,
patting Balto’s head.
“Boris, maybe I should go somewhere…”
Balto replied, “I should leave from here so that they could be happy.”
“But, Balto…” Boris seemed sad, “Are
you feel happy? I know deep inside you, you’re not happy at all. You suffer,
Balto…”
Balto’s tears couldn’t be hold
anymore. It kept flowing from his teary eyes. It wouldn’t stop, even he tried
to be strong. He then put his head on Boris, giving all sadness he could. Just
before he could cry for more, Luka and Reina came to him. Their eyes looked
serious.
“Balto…” Luka started, “I don’t know how
to say this but… it might be a good idea to leave this place as fast as you
can.”
“Yes…” Reina continued, “This place is
more dangerous now… so we think that…”
“Okay…” Balto suddenly answered,
getting up and moving closer to them, “Let’s get going!”
Both of Luka and Reina were startled.
They didn’t know this answer came quickly all of sudden. But, they didn’t have
time to keep thinking because they must get out from there quickly. For Balto,
this was his great chance. A chance to save his family.
“No, Balto!” Jenna suddenly
interrupted, confronting his way, “You can’t do this to me… to your family…”
“But, Jenna…” Balto replied.
“Please, Balto. You mustn’t leave…”
Jenna moved closer, nuzzling him, “Don’t you always say you can handle
everything?”
At this rate, the brown wolf didn’t
know what to do. His mind was telling him to let her go, but his heart said
different things. But the most important was that he must do what became the
priority.
“I’m not going anywhere, Jenna. I’ll
be in your heart…” Balto started, “So… I’m so sorry… Jenna…”
Without any warning from him, Balto
quickly smacked Jenna’s head, making his mate fell unconsciously. She lied down
motionless, but still breathed. Boris who saw this grew in panic.
“Balto, what are you…” he exclaimed,
but soon stopped when he saw Balto’s eyes full of tears, “Well, perhaps it’s
better like this…”
The situation around was still silent.
No one spook, only moving themselves to their destination. Luka and Reina could
only step forward, climbing down the stairs and waiting Balto to join them
soon. And for Balto, he didn’t move a little bit after smacking Jenna. He felt
guilty, but he knew it was for her good. Seeing his mate for the last time
might help him to cherish his beautiful memory.
“Okay, time to move out!” Boris
suddenly started, getting to Balto’s back, “C’mon, Balto! What are you waiting
for? The journey is already waiting for us.”
“Us?” Balto confused, “I don’t get it.
I thought you don’t want to take the journey. You know, with all of those
dangerous things out there…”
“But, Balto… You know I must take care
of you since you’re still kiddo…” Boris explained, “And plus, consider this
trip as letting me go freely from Muk and Luk. So, if you don’t mind, wake me
up when we’re there.”
With those last statements, he then
rested himself at top of Balto. Balto’s smile slowly grew wide. He thought
Boris could always cheer the atmosphere around, making the worst became the
best. His worry suddenly disappeared for a while. Now, he just needed to do this
journey with his new friend, Luka and Reina. He hoped it would be good.
