Balto was on his way to see Kodi, to help him with his mail run.

“Dad, you’re here,” He said. “That’s good, because I’m up one more step to becoming a lead dog!”

“That’s good,” Balto said and smiled. Just then, Mr. Simpson, the musher, got up on the sled.

“Hike!” he said.

Just then, Kodi and his team ran off.

Then Jenna ran over to me.

“Hi Jenna,” Balto said and nuzzled her.

“Balto, My girl is missing. I smelled all over for her. I couldn’t find her.”

She started to cry, and Balto suddenly ran to get the sled team. He caught up, and barked.

Balto got in front of Kodi, and barked.

The sled stopped, and Balto said,

“Kodi, we need your help. Rosie is missing.”

Mr. Simpson let the harnesses off the team.

“You mean Jenna’s girl?” Dusty said.

“She was the one you saved?” Ralph said back.

“Yes, and there’s no time to lose!” Balto said and they ran to Jenna.

“We’ll help you, mom,” Kodi said.

“So will I,” A voice said.

Aleu ran out of the woods, bedside us.

“Aleu? What are you doing here? I thought you would be with your pack.” Balto said.

“I was taking a break. Being a leader is hard. Anyway, I heard you two over talking. Rosie is missing?”

Balto nodded, and Kirby said,

“Help us find her.”

Balto gasped, and said,

“No, just Kodi.”

Kodi ran over to Balto.

“Me?” He said.

“Come on!” He said and they both ran in the woods and put their noses to the ground.

“I got her scent!” Kodi said.

The scent leads to some fast rapids.

Her hat was on the bank.

“She must have fallen in!” Balto said.

“You can’t swim!” Kodi said.

“Neither can she, and she’ll drown if I don’t!” He said. He leaped in, and struggled against the fast rapids.

He swam with all his might. Just then he heard a shout over where he was.

There she was! She was on a rock, holding on, coughing and spiting out water. Just then a big wave splashed on her, and she fell! She was sinking, and Balto swam to her with all her might.

He howled to make sure that Rosie’s hero was going to save her.

“Help me, Balto!” She said.

She sank, and before she had fell all the way, Balto grabbed her by her shirt.
There was a waterfall up ahead!

Balto gasped, and held onto her, and tried to swim back to shore.

Rosie held on his neck, and they couldn’t get back!

They are going to drown!

But then Kodi leapt to the rescue. Balto was surprised to see him.

He swam over to them, and Kodi grabbed onto Balto’s fur, and pulled them both back to shore.

They got on Land, and Then Jenna, dusty, Kirby, and Ralph came over and helped their two heroes.

But something surprised all of them. Balto fell to the ground, and closed his eyes.

“Balto!” Rosie said. “Oh, get up!”

She shook him, and Balto didn’t move.

Jenna started to cry, and the rest lay down, and sighed.

Then a miracle happened. Balto started to open his eyes, and grunted in pain.

“Balto!” She said and hugged the wolf dog that had saved her life.

He got up, and shook.

No one knew how or why Rosie had run off. They just knew Balto and Kodi saved her.

She tried to get up, but she fell back down.

Balto whined, and nudged her.

“Guys,” She said. “Just go.”

Balto whined, and they didn’t leave.

“It’ll be ok,” She said.
Balto cuddled up, and started to cry.

“I love you,” She said and hugged me.

She didn’t move and she closed her eyes.

Just then, Kodi found a branch.

“Kodi, she’s alive, but I think she had water in her lungs.” Balto said.

Kodi said,

“Remember when you didn’t give up to find the medicine for Nome? Well I won’t give you or her up.”

So Jenna nudged her girl onto a branch, and Aleu found some vines for harnesses.

They looped it around them and the branch, making a sled.

“Oh, Balto, you don’t know how proud I am,” She said.

“Me too,” Aleu said. “I never knew you had it in you.”

“Me three,” Dusty said. “In fact, this was more heroic than the pilot.”

“Me four,” Ralph said. “I’m not sure about that, but then again, that was good.”

“Me five,” Kirby said. “I think kids are very annoying,” He said, and then Jenna looked at him.

“Ok, but Balto did a good job.” He said.

“I’m proud of you too, dad.” Kodi nuzzled me.

“Well, since we have a sled, we should head back to Nome,” Dusty said.

“How do you do sled, papa?” Aleu asked.

“Easy. Slide into the vine-harness.” Balto said.

She slipped in it.

So did everyone else.

“Then you don’t move till the command from someone.”

Everyone waited.

“Then the leader says, MUSH! That means go!”

So everyone started to run.

“Then smell the air! Smell the way back to Nome!”

Everyone smelled, and found Nome.

“Then, we stop!” Balto said. We stopped as soon as Rosie woke up.

“Balto?” She said.

She saw the surroundings.

“We’re home!” She said. “Mush to my house!”

All of the dogs ran back to her house, and her mom saw the whole thing.

“Rosie! Your home!” She said and hugged her.

“Mommy!” She said. She got up, and Her mom picked her up.

“What happened?” Her mom said.

“The dogs saved me!” She said.

“That’s good!” She said. She praised us, and pets them.

“Good dogs!” She said.

As soon as they were about to go inside, Rosie said,

“Mom, wait!”

She got down, and she ran to Balto.

“I’d be lost without you,” She said and hugged me.

Then Jenna, Rosy, and Her mom went inside.

The news got around, and we were heroes, again.

THE END.
