Balto: Next Centuary
Future story pt 1
Nome, Alaska-2925
“This world was devastated before I was born. A harsh bleak place ,where we live in eternal darkness. Life is a struggle and people live without hope. How did this happen? No one will answer me directly, but they always point, to the glaciers. I am Chronos, a silver colored wolf/dog hybrid. I have psychokinetic powers and I am looking for answers.” Chronos was hovering over the cracked ground, when a large wind began to stir, a cloud of snow and dust encircled him, but with his powers he cleared the cloud out of his sight and went the rest of his trip on foot. “This blizzard, it freezes my world to a frostbitten wasteland. They come from a being that is impossible to defeat. The winds of disaster know as Ancient, the eldest of the Twilight Twins.”
“CHRONOS!” a voice called. It was Cynder my friend. She, like me, had powers, except hers were fiery.
“Cynder, what is it?” I asked.
“He’s appeared again!” At this I ascended into the atmosphere and hovered at high speeds towards the place where HE appeared. She was quick as well, but she was more of a jumper than a glider. We went to the outskirts where a large abyss was located. And out of it arose Anctient. He was fierce and very large. A combination of rocks, snow and, metal. I was not afraid of him, for I had defeated him before. I already new it was a simple as me holding him down with MY powers and Cynder using her’s to “douse” him. We did so and after we burnt through his outer layers I went over the abyss and smashed his head into it. He would return again and again after that. It was frustrating how much time we spent fighting and chasing this guy.
“Looks like we stopped it for now.” Cynder said.
“What’s the point in even saying that? He is just going to come back again and again. Ugh, we might as well just stop this. If only we knew a way to finally end him!” I yelled out to the skies.
“Calm down Chronos.” Cynder tried to reassure me.
“Not until we fully destroy him. What do we do?” I asked her. She just looked away pondering.
“By knowing the truth of course.” Someone said. I turned around looked up and saw a shadowy figure. “Just as a solar system comes from a cloud of dust and gas, and a flower comes from a seed, everything has an origin. You need to find the being originally responsible for this catastrophe.” He added.
“Is that really the answer to our problem?” I responded. “Tell me, do you know who it is?” I asked. He looked like he was about to answer but all he did was stare at me. I looked at his face, it looked very demented. Black as dark fur, green eyes, HUGE fangs and very dirty looking. Not only that, but his mouth was stitched closed. I was sort of bewildered at this but the only thing I can think about was the answer to my world’s problem.
He took us to a dim room lit only with computer monitors that were left running when the humans fled. Apparently this guy must be very intelligent if he knows how to use these. Even I couldn’t use them, and I am the smartest one here. His name was Youth, a strange name but I didn’t care. He began to speak, “To fix this present timeline, you need to change the past.” Again I was bewildered.
“But that’s impossible.” I told him.
“With my help, you can, for I have the ability to travel through time.” He said. And I was amazed on how much he could do.
“NO WAY!” Amazed I was. He once again began to speak.
“In order to change the past, you must eliminate the individual who awakened Ancient. The Ancient trigger.” I thought deeply at this and asked him.
“ So if I eliminate this guy will our world be saved?” He nodded.
“The day of disaster. Here are my records of this event.” He began typing on the main computer. This was one talented wolf. “This is when Ancient was freed, and his cold, icy being was released in the world.” We looked up at the screen and many pictures appeared. Most of them were of Ancient himself. “And you have this person to blame.” He handed me what looked to be a totem, but it was made out of crystal not wood. I looked into it and I saw….
A brown and hazel colored wolf/dog hybrid surrounded by icy waters and wind glaring at me, his eyes were yellow, and he looked very strong.
“I SEE IT!” I said to them. “So that brown hybrid is the Anctient trigger?”
“Brown wolf/dog hybrid?” Cynder asked me. I handed the totem back to him and placed it in his collar. He turned around and took some sparkling dust out of some bracelet he was wearing.
“I’ll take us back in time to the point where the Ancient trigger was alive.” He through the dust in the air mumbled a few words and we encircled by the purple dust. All three of us were thrown into a vortex and our familiar surroundings disappeared.
I jumped out of the vortex and landed in a grassy field that had some patches of snow. It was cloudy and cold. I looked around some more in awe of where I was. “Unbelievable!” I said to myself. “Now I must fight for the future!” Then I noticed that Cynder wasn’t with me. Neither was Youth. I was very shy when I wasn’t around people I knew, but I had a mission, and I had to go through with it. I began running towards Nome and as I ran to it, I realized how much different the past looks to the future. I went faster hovering but I wanted to blend in with the other dogs and wolves, so I just walked over to Nome calmly.
Cynder_________________________________________________________
I jumped out of the vortex and ended up on an island. It looked inhabited, but there was no one around. Even Chronos and Youth weren’t with me. “Oh poor Chronos, when it comes to being around others he doesn’t know he can be so insecure.” I paused thought to myself. “Ancient trigger, brown wolf/dog.” I then decided to investigate and go in to one of the nearby tippis.
Chronos_________________________________________________________
It was late and I found myself searching around the downtown area of Nome. For some reason it reminded me of the future Nome. I jumped on to one of the tallest buildings in the area and that when I saw HIM!!!! The Ancient trigger. I kept facing in his direction and leapt down to lower area on the streets where I could still see him. I was about to zap him with my psychokinetic powers when a female came and tackled me.
“FOUND YOU BALTO!” she said to me. I tried telling her to get off me, and stuggled to break free, but did she have a grip! “There is no point in hiding from Balto. We’re mates we’re not supposed to hide from each other.” She looked up and realized it wasn’t this Balto character she was snuggling with. “OH MY GOSH! You’re not Balto. I am sooo sorry, It’s just that you look just like him and, oh dear.” She said in regret.
“I um.. HEY!” I looked to where the Ancient trigger was and he had disappeared. “Where’d he go?” I kept looking around. “He must’ve run off.”
“I’m sorry did you miss someone because of me?” She asked.
“Ah, it’s okay. I’m sure the guy I am looking for is still some where here in the town. I’m sure I can still find him.” I reassured her.
“Then I will help you.” She grabbed a hold of my collar and brought me closer to her. I was starting to get nervous now since I didn’t know her and that I was standing so close to such a beautiful female.
“Uh.. WHAT!?” I asked in surprise.
“Two heads are better than one when for looking for someone.” She told me.
“Hey wait a second!”
“What’s your name?”
“Um…. Chronos.”
“Fascinating name, sounds really nice. My is Jenna it’s nice to meet you.”
“Hey wait no..” she practically dragged me the whole time. Still it felt nice to have a new friend. Cynder was my only friend since she was the only person my age. Jenna looks slightly older than me, but she was very beautiful. Anyway she took me to her house where she insisted I stay, I was getting kind of tired so I accepted her invitation. In the morning we had eaten a good breakfast and started out to the tundra lands in the north. These fields looked so amazing!!
“I sense Balto’s presence here. Call it my girl intuition.” I was so tired from walking non stop but I still admired the wide open spaces here.
“What am I doing?” I asked myself.
“Sorry. Once I find Balto I’ll help you find who ever you’re looking for Chronos.” I wasn’t really paying attention to what she was saying, my imagination was once again captured by the tundra lands.
“This looks so beautiful.” I spoke.
“What? You mean the tundra lands?” Apparently she didn’t understand where I was coming from.
“Everything is so great here, isn’t it? The sky is gorgeous, and everyone is happy. Nothing like where I come from.”
“And where is that?” She asked me. I began to stumble because I didn’t want her to know that was from a dystopian future. So I just started up on another subject.
“Let’s go, I’ll help you find who you’re looking for.” We ran back towards Nome. It was now around noon.
“I can’t believe we haven’t located Balto yet. Gee I wonder where he went. I know I’ll ask my friend some of my friends if they’ve seen him!” Jenna suggested.
“My be I’ll look for him on my own. Probably be better to split up.” I replied.
“Okay, whether we find him or not we meet back her in an hour. Okay?”
“Alright.” She ran towards the sawmill of the town. I was left in the town square. As soon as I turned toward the south guess who I saw. THE ANTCIENT TRIGGER! Walking next to a grey husky that was wearing a very fancy collar. I didn’t care if he was alone or not NOW WAS MY CHANCE! “DOWN!” he yelled as I shot my first attack on him.
“I have been looking for you. You’re the Antcient trigger. You’re actions will condemn us all!” I said as I descended from my hover.
“Who are you?” He asked.
“My name is Chronos. For the future of the world, I will destroy you!” And what an easy minute and a half it was. He was fast, but he was no match for my powers. Slapping him on the ground and throwing stuff at him, all using my mind. Heh, piece of cake.
As he was just laying there, I walked up to him and observed him more closely. “Hmph. Is this a joke? How could someone like you cause the destruction of the world?”
“What do you….. mean?” He asked weakly.
“It doesn’t matter. For the sake of the future, the Ancient trigger must be destroyed.” I was about to strike him, when I heard a yelp. It was the fancy grey husky calling for help. She was pined down to a sled by a black and white malamute, obviously not a friend of the trigger.
“ANNA! WAIT!!” the trigger called out to her. But he couldn’t run off, so stopped him once again by holding him down.
“DON’T YOU DARE TURN YOUR BACK ON ME! It’s time I put an end to this!”
“STOP!” That was Jenna’s voice.
“Jenna? Get out of my way Jenna! This is my mission!” I scolded her.
“AB-SO-LUT-LY NOT!” She was starting to frustrate me. And to make things worse, the trigger began to revive.
“Th- Thanks Jen. I really appreciate it.” Then he ran off.
“Leave him to me.” Jenna started to sound threatening. I didn’t want to fight her!
“The person you were looking for was Balto! Were you planning to kill him?” She asked in a more calm voice.
“He is responsible for destroying my world!” I scolded her.
“THAT’S CRAZY! Balto would never do that. And how could he? Not even human has that kind of capacity.”
“But it’s true! In the near future, his actions will cause the devastation of my world. So I MUST…..”
“NOO!” she interrupted me. “I don’t believe it. Even if that was true, if I had to choose between the world or Balto, I would chose Balto, and your hearing this from a husky that has a girl that almost died from a disease, and in spite of that I still went with Balto to help him bring back the cure. Balto is a kind and caring canine. I WON’T BELIEVE YOU!” She ran off yelling that phrase over and over. Now I was confused. The trigger and Jenna are mates? How can that be? I pondered this as I walked toward the beach.
I sate near a boat on the beach and pondered about Jenna and the trigger. “Could I possibly be going after the wrong wolf/dog? No, Youth said it was HIM!”
“So this is where you are, I’ve been looking for you.” Sounded like Cynder. About time she came along. “What’s wrong?” I just kept staring at the watery horizon not knowing what to say.
“Well, uh, Cynder. To kill someone to save the world…. Is that really the right thing to do?” I asked her.
“You’re so naïve.” I was expecting a response like that. “Whether it’s right or wrong, I can’t say…. But what I do know is, if we don’t take this chance, the future will remain exactly as it is.” No denying, she was right.
“Well, he’s looking for someone named Steele. And from what I’ve heard from some of the locals, is that he lives in an abandoned cabin in the woods. Why don’t we go over there and see if we can get any more information?” Cynder also thought it was a good idea, so we headed out to the south.
It was a long walk towards the cabin. It was really deep in the woods, bet no one even knew it existed. It was snowy and it was at night, it was pretty cold but nothing that compared to Ancient’s icy breath. “Looks like we arrived a little to late.” We continued to look farther out and were encountered by rabid foxes. “Oh No!” I was not afraid. I went right after them without a scratch. I knocked one out cold the other ran off. But one of them dropped a crystal. I walked towards it and picked it up. It looked like the totem that Youth had given me when we were still in the future.
“That’s a crystal totem.” Cynder told me. “This is the fox totem, each of them give the bearer special powers, this one gives you the ability to vanish, reappear, and makes you in to the most clever and sly being ever. If you collect all six of them a miracle of life and/or nature is suppose to happen. Keep it as a lucky charm.” Well I had learned something today.
“Makes me like a fox. Crazy like a fox!” I said to my self. “I’ve been spending to much time here, I have to find the trigger.” Cynder and I headed back to Nome.
Jenna____________________________________________________
I cannot believe I was helping that jerk. Seriously killing Balto, who did he think he was, now here I am in the Basement of Steele’s cabin and I haven’t seen Balto any where. I’ve been trying to locate him but now I think I am in trouble. “Oh dang there’s Kaltag!” I didn’t expect anyone to be down here. Lucky for me he was just leaving. It wasn’t until I heard the front door close that I decided to get up and do more snooping. “On second thought, maybe I should just walk away real quietly before they spot me.” I was about to walk towards the stair case when I ran into another female dog. She just appeared out of no where.
“Hey Kaltag!” O-o Star, the darn snitch! “the prisoner is escaping! HEY!”
“This way.” I commanded her.
“Oh.. Okay.” She started following me real close. Good thing Star is absent minded. We were able to get out of their easily.
“We will be safer in Nome, c’mon.” We started making our way towards Nome, and within two hours, we lost Steele’s lackeys and made it to Nome.
“Thank you so much for rescuing me. I am so grateful.” She said to me thanking me.
“I’m Jenna.” I introduced my self.
“My name is Anna.” It took me a while to realize who she was. I took one good look at her and finally….
“Anna? Wait! You’re not Anna, the governors’ pet are you? I mean the governess of the dogs of Alaska? I bet someone’s already on their way to rescue you.”
“Um, yes, but someone told me…. ‘Nothing starts until you take action.’ So I decided to heed his advice.”
“Hmmm, you wouldn’t happen to have feelings for this person would you?” I startled her with that question.
“WHAT!? No of course….”
“It’s okay. Love changes everything. It feels like every moment in your life is huge. Doesn’t it? After all I’ve been mated to a wonderful male who cares about me, loves me, and he is my hero.” I could tell she liked someone she started to blush. “So who is this guy? What does he look like? Have you already been on a date with him?” I was bombarding her with to many questions.
“Well no I really haven’t.”
“A one way love?! That’s so cute. You remind me of my daughter Aleu, she once liked a guy that didn’t really hang out with her a lot, I forget what his name was, but she loved him so dearly. But c’mon there is no need to be shy. Look you’re the governess, and you’re super cute. That guy is so lucky to have you. I wish you the best of luck.”
“Thanks.” I escorted her back to the mayor’s house where she was suppose to stay while the governor was in town.
