Balto. The Bloods War.
Chapter 1. Hero.
Balto waked up with a loud sight. His pain from yesterday came back. He tried to got up but immediately he lied again on the blanket which was liing in captain room where Balto was sleping.Pain was terrible. He get up again slowler and it works. . He was in home, on his smack. It have to passed few minutes before he realized what happened yesterday and why he feel so much pain.
He was a sawer of the city. When he realized it he was a litle shocked. But he only shook his fur from sleep and take a long breeth. Cold winter air came into his mouth and nose.
Home.
Then he heard voices. It was probably Muk, Luk and Boris - thought Balto and smilled. Voices was argiung and a second later on the smack shows Boris, Luk and Muk.
- Hi boys. - started Balto.
- You see! Your whimpering waked him up! - told angrily Boris to Luk and Muk.
- Well, actually you too waked me Boris. - pointed Balto with a smille. There was so good in home. Boris only murmured something angrily \ but Muk replied.
- Yeah! We were worried when you will awake. Its late.
- He have long way after him bears! - start an argument Boris.Balto smilled again
- Allright , allright I'm awake.
- How are you Balto?- asked worried Boris with more soft voice.
- Well like yesterday - pain and hunger. - replied Balto and lied on the blanket. He now realized how hungry he is and added
- I should go to find something for breakfast.
-Oh no need my old friend. Boris bring you something. - replied happily Boris. Balto only sighted but smilled. He thought that he can catch Jenna in Nome but in the other side he was a little frighteen thinking that he could meet her.
Boris put on a wood-made floor two fishes.Balto smillled hungrily and started to eat
- Thanks Boris I'm really hungry!
- Thats nothing! Eat,eat, but we hope you will tell us ewerything. All your tale!
- My tale? - asked shocked dog.
- Yeah we was in city and we know what people and dogs thinking of you.
- You were on the city? I thought that you are a delicate country bird and you hate going into town Boris! - pointed more shocked Balto.
-Well I was interesting what people say's after yesterday when you save all city.
- And wha they saying? - asked Balto curious.
- You're a herous sawer of the city, the best dog ever in Nome. and someone should build you a monument. - repeated Boris.
- A monument? Best dog in Nome? And what about Steele ? - asked shocked wolf dog when happy Boris huged him and strike his fur.
- Actually.. he's gone - replied Boris.
- Steele is gone? I thoght he came back before I reach Nome. - pointed Balto.
-Yeah, but it seems he escape. - told Boris. Balto only murmured something and finaly swallowed last fish.
- Well? Tell us everything! - ordered Boris and with the bears sitted comfortable in the floor. Balto started the story. Boris Muk and Luk were shocked but too very happy. It was strange that Balto was able to do this ewerything. He started to telling them about what happened when he falled and saw White Wolf.
- Wait a minute? You met a White Wolf? - aked once goose.
- Yes, why? - asked dog.
- Oh , nothing just.. did you was talking with that Wolf? - replied Boris.
- No, Boris I was concentrate to bring medicine as fast as I could. - pointed Balto.
- Yeah, ofcourse. - murmured Boris.
- Then in the abyss I nearly heard your voice telling me that dog cannot make it. - replied Balto.
-And you became a wolf. - finished for him goose. with sad face.
- No.. I'm a wolf.. ee.. partly. - told his friend.
- So who you are now? - asked Boris but didnt let Balto to answer. - Well I think youre just Balto. A hero like I told you yesterday. Balto replied him a smille and finished his story.
- Ah I could forget I met Jenna and her friends.. they are.. Sylwie and Dixie I think thats their names. - told Boris and look curious at Balto. Balto was pale but he calm down himself and asked slowly:
- And?
-Well she told that she met you yesterday, that youre a hero, and she is very happy and gratitiude to you. She agreed that youre a hero.
- And what said Sylvie and Dixie? - asked dog.
-They were laughing smilling and they nodded. Females! -murmured Boris and went down to cold snow. He want to go away when he stoped
- Oh, I would forget again. Jenna.. - Boris make a pause for better effect.
-Yes? - asked curious Balto.
- She asked me to show her a way to the smack, because she want to visit you and she know ( I told her) that you are probably very tired but she wont take long time. - answered Boris, he smilled and went away and screamed for bears which was still on a deck
- Bears! Come to me! We have to leave Balto with Jenna alone. Oh, Balto! Better clean yourself. You're a hero should look like a hero and a female went to visit you! Oh and tidy a little our smack! - Boris finished and with bears dissapeared in wood.Balto smillled to Boris but when they dissapeared he gasped nervously.
Jenna will come here! - he thought. He was surely very happy but he wasn't prepared for this.He jumped down to the snow to see his reflection in the puddle. He tried to slicked his fur but with no effect. Balto sighted and only shook his fur. He climbed to the smack and tided up his home. When he finished he jumped on the ship's border to discretely look around to see if Jenna's coming.
In the same time Jena stood on the hill peak. Down she could see Balto's smack. She sighted hardly.
Why she asked Boris to show her way? Why she have to start a conversation with him!
She wanted to see Balto but it makes her be shy and nervous.But she start to went down to the smack.
Balto too saw her in the same time. His nervous dissapeared , he happily jumped to the snow with happy smille. Then he realized he make a faux pas.
Jenna smilled and said shyly:
- Hi...
-Hello.. - replied Balto too shyly but he smilled and added. - Im happy I can see you.
- Im happy too.
- I was thinking to go to town but..well nevermind.. - Balto said and realized he make next mistake, so he just make place for Jenna if she want to came into ship.
- Oh, Boris told me you're tired hungry and you feel pain. I hope so you feel better. - replied Jenna with smille.
- Yes, completely now. - he replied with the same smille and voice in the night when he show Jenna the northern lights. Jenna too think of it and smilled mysterious
- Could I come and see your home? - she asked.
-Sure. Welcome - he replied and let her go first inside by the ramp like gentleman. Jenna really feel like a lady. Balto show Jenna all smack and then they sitted on the deck looking at horizont. Jenna started
-Actually I come to thank you. You see yesterday, there was so mess I forgot. Thank you, I , I dont know what we would do without you. You saved Rosy and city. Thank you.
-Oh, I just.. have do that. Looking at ill Rosy was so hard. Its nothing to thank you for. I done what I could. And I know you will thank me, although it's nothing to thank for. -Balto gasped. He made just more mess.
-Why you know that I will thank you?- asked curious Jenna.
-I .. I saw it in your eyes and your not a thankless person. No. You are a .. rather thankfull one. Well just. anyway. - mixed Balto . Next faux pas.
- You have a nice..hm.. cosy home.
- Oh, thanks but it's just a old ship. I would barely prefer a warm house. - joked Balto and sent her smille.
- But its only your home and the atmosphere is very important. - commented Jenna.
- Oh yes but when it's warm and dry, no rain or snow. - pointed Balto.
- And I think this smack have this.. advantages right? -replied Jenna and turned her head from the horizont to him.Balto couldn't in this second think about noting just about her beautyfull head so close to his own.Come down! - he ordered to himself and replied
- Yes it is I think.
Jenna smilled and said
- You may change your home.
- Why? Dont you like it? - replied Balto and gasped. Next mistake. He didn't planning to live here with Jenna did he? Well..
-You make popular after yesterday. Eweryone -humans and dogs - calling you a hero.- started Jenna.
- You too? -asked Balto confused.
- Yes, like I told you.
-But I dont see what a common is beetween changing a home and being hero.
- People saw you're a good leader, and Mr. Gunrar can make you a sleddog. Don't you think about it? - she replied. Balto was then even more confused. A sleddog? He was his dream for as long as he can remember , and now it can be real. A real sleddog..
- Is it possible? - he wasn't sure.
-Yes it seems be very likely. - replied Jenna. - But... could you tell me what happened when we came back to city? You see when I came back I told Nome dogs that you came after Steele. They didn't believe you can make it. And in this evening ran to the mil Steele - he seem to be tired and diing of cold. He told us that other dogs died, that he tried to rescue them and then came you and you want to bring the medicine alone, you want to be so glory and hero. And that you falled over with medicine and that you're dead and he show me my bandana which I give you. - said Jenna. Balto looked at her neck .The bandana was here again. He remind what happened when he reach team .He was so angry for Steele
- I didin't believe it. You couldn't.. do this for glory. Steele said too that you want him to take care of me. Because of it I too cannot believe on that what he said. You couldn't be dead . -said Jenna sadly and Balto saw that a tear come from her eye. She was wondering of him!
- No I couldn't. I wanted to do this for Rosy.Aditionally you know I hate Steele so I couldn't told him to take care of you..I'm alive. - replied and smilled which make Jenna happy. She just gasped and huged him Balto was shocked but happy. After a second Jenna come down and told
- Sorry. -and she sitted normally.
-Nothing. - replied Balto and they smilled to each other.
- So could you tell me what happened? - she asked friendly.
- I reached Steele in the same day when grizzly atacked us. The sled was in he abbys. I wanted to go down to them but I sliped. When I stand up there I saw they was freezzing and man are hurt. Star Nikki and Kaltag was happy I come but Stele. - Balto make a pause -I wanted just to help them but he didn't agree. So I wanted just to bring the medicine but he attacked me. I didn't want to fight but he hitted me and finally push on a rock.I undeastood that he want to have the glory but they was lost.He couldn't let me to show them a way. I show them how I make a trail.When I waked up again after he pushed me I tried to take the medicine and go away but he attacked me again. We was near to the edge. Under us was next abbyss. He catch your bandana and fall down with her. Then I leaded them and it was so great feeling, but Stele was first. He made trail ewerywhere so I was lost. I leaded them but I lost way and we falled down to the edge of abbyss but I stoped the sled and catch the medicine but then I fall down with it. I don't know how long I was liing there. I lost my hope. I was so sorry I failled. That I won't rescue Rosy... Then I saw a paw before me. There was a wolf and he howled to me. Boris told me when you leaved me that dog cannot make this yourney but wolf could. He wanted me to remember I'm a wolf too and make it useful. I understand it then . I fistly turned head of wolf. I didn't want him. And the white wolf went away. Then I saw a medicine.. The medicine was allright and I saw how long way down we made. And we was allright. And I understood. So I howled to her. I found a power to make the way up. I was a wolf there.If I would be just a dog I would die there. But I make the way up. It was so great feeling when dogs wisited me with a happy scream . So we started our yourney back. I use my nose and I find a way. We even ran for awalanche and a huge stalactite and we went here.I saw your northern lights and howled.I can't believe we make it aive. And that Steele could said that the dogs are dead! How a shame! How could he?He was really selfish -finished Balto and gasped. His story was full of emotions.
-Yeah me too. Its hard to believe.Mr Gunrar too understand it. Steele.. we think he go away.After your howl we understand he was a lyer.Oh how good you are alive.
-Yeah. And Rosy is fine now right? - relied smilled Balto because he realized that Jenna feels something to him. And that she feelt so much emotions when he was away.
- Yes, she's fine but..You don't even know what you means to me. And that youre alive. - told quietely Jenna.She probably thinking the same. Balto gasped. Jenna was a little embarassed and told
-Well I. thank you for this conversation and that you show me your boat.And thank you again for sawing Rosy. Nome. Bye. - she finished and started to going down by the same ramp. Balto came after her and said her goodbye when they was standing on the snow. Jenna smilled and went away to Nome. She nearly reached the hill's peak when she heard Balto voice. He ran after her . He reach the half of hill and screamed to her
- Jenna.. I was thinking.. I would like to take you on a walk meaby.. tomorrow if you dont mind.
- Okay, thanks! -she replied. - We'll meet in town tomorrw at.. five o clock - she replied happyly.
-Fine. Bye. - told Blto and went to his smack.
Boris and bears was smilling from their sanctury...
Sun walked to the west side of horizon. An aftenoon became a evening. Balto was resting in captain room, Muk and Luk was playing on the beach. Boris thought that Jenna too came back to her home.Soon sun dissapeared , sky became darker and here start to showing stars. Moon too will wake up soon.February evenings was very cold.With every word which came from Boris mouth there came too a steam.. Boris gasped and looked at stairy sky. He was happy but confused - he all day was thinking about White Wolf, since Balto mention she. Could it be possible? Boris closed his eyes paintfully and memories ran to his brain with all pain of past. "No. It's not possible" - he whispered as quiet as noone could heard him if anyone where here, because Boris was sitting on the broadside of ship.Although he repeated few times what he said he still have a picture of past in his mind. Tears of innocent creature. Of White Wolf. Finally he asked sky above him quietely:
- Aniu??
Soon night overcome evening. Dark wood became more darker but Steele didn't know about it. He was still liing in the chamber where he feelt asleep last night. He was sleepping all day and he didnt knew what was going out. But finally he was waking up. Firstly he saw only a shadow before him but he moved his eyes few times and he saw dark rocky chamber. He needs few seconds to realized that he's not in his kenell, why he is here and where he is. The realism of this situation ran to his mind paintfully Then he saw something grey in the chamber's corner. He moved his heavy head with pain and he was shocked. He jumped and sit on his legs. In corner was peacefully sitting grey she-wolf. Steele gasped and growled. He knew he was too weak to fight but wolf said only:
- Hi.
-Eee - murmured shocked Steele. Wolf laughed. Steele smilled although he didn't realized it. She had beautyfull laugh and voice as Steele could even feel in love. Steele shook his fur and looked again at wolf. He cant still say a word.
- Mmm, you don't have to worry dog.- she started and started to walking to Steele. She split around him. She was shorter than him , she had soft grey fur and mysterius blue eyes. He fall in her eyes. Then she sitted and hit him softly in shoulder.
-I'm not going to hurt you although I know what you sled dogs are thinking about us wolves.
-Yeah/?- replied Steele still confused and shocked. Wolf laughed again and sit in her corner of chamber.
- I'm Quennie. - she introduced herself. Steele unsurely replied
- Eee.. hmm. I'm Steele.
- Hi Steele. - she replied with a smile.
-What you gonna to do with me? - he asked and growled quietely.
- Eh, dogs. Why you think I'm going to hurt you?- she asked
-And don't you? - he asked and Quennie smilled. He was smart too although he dont look like.
- Not me.- wolf shook her head.
- So who?
- Now noone. But I can't do much if my pack decide to kill you.- she smilled. She was really cunning but Steele growled.
- So I guess I will have to die. Lead the way. - barked malamute.
-Oh, my pack are far far away from here. I split when we were hunting and humans nearly killed me and my pack.
-Pitty. - growled Steele but he cant feel angry for her.
- I know. Well I have to join them again but they are a long way from here, and they are further with every day.
- Ai'nt they waiting for you?- commented Steele and smilled unfriendly. Quennie was lovely but she was a wolf.Balto was too.
-They think I'm dead. You can go with me. - said suddenly she-wolf.
- WHAT! Why you think I would join any wolf even so cute as you?- growled Steele and turned away of Quennie.
- You know someone who really want to live didnt lie on the middle of wolves path.
Steele growled but his eyes was wide of shock.
- Not your bussiness.
-Sure, but you see you was sleeping all day in my old earth so you should thank me in some way.
She got him. Steele remember that Balto was half wolf. He hate wolves and he cant said "sorry" - to anyone.
- I was exhausted. And I'm nott going to thank you in that way - I won't go with you for sure death.
- Why you think that my pack would like to kill you? They never saw you before? They don't have any cause to hurt you.
- But that's how wolves are like. Killing everyone on their way. Even themselves.
- You don't know much about wolves do you ha?- asked Quennie with a little hurt glance.Steele's heart bitted faster. Did he hurt her in anyway? He shook his head to stop thinking about her.
- I used to be sled dog. Ofcourse I know all about them
- You never was a wolf so you cant. - barked angrily Quennie but smilled.
- I don't care! - growled Steele.
- You don't like us right? - asked Quennie. Steele barked:
- I told you stupid wolf! I used to be sled dog! I am a full breed malamute! And last time some half dog make me mad. How can I like you?- growled dissgusted dog.
- You said you used to be sled dog. You aren't now? - asked curious wolf.
- No!
- So I guess that's why you was running so fast to the pain and lied nearly on the middle of the path. You was lucky I had my earth here. Steele barked and nearly bited her but Quennie stepped away.
- You have so much anger in your heart.- commented sadly and quietely.
- How did you know so much about my yourney?- asked Steele.
- I have a good nose. And I'm enough cunning and smart to realise how a creature you are like.
- It's not your bussines. Go away of here and of me.
- You said it before. And did you remember it's my chamber.
Steele growled . She was really iritating. So although after long run he feel some pain he started to runing away of this place.
-Wait!- screamed Quenne with fear in her voice.
- WHAT!
- You... you can stay here... as long as you wish..dog.- she said.
- Stay in one place with wolf? To let you kill me when I will be sleeping!
- I told you I don't hurt you;. If I gonna to hurt you I would do it in first time.You don't have to stay! It's finally my chamber but I dont know did you have anything else to do.
Steele stoped confused. He really don't have nowhere to go, but stay in one chamber with wolf...
-- You dont have to stay.. As you wish..you don't have to sleep just chargng your own life.
-And after few days you will lead me to your pack ai? -pointed Steele.
- Oh, absolutely not. You are a big strong dog and I cant beat you or order you to do anything.
- So you won't...? - asked confused malamute. Wolf looked at him with cunning and smart in eyes and he feel his heart are not anymore a ice. She shook her head to show his right. Steele didn't said nothing more. He only murmured something to himself and ran to the wood.
Quennie stayed where she was confused. Did he go away or gonna to stay?
