'Wait for me!' panted Amber as she ran up the hill after Bailey, Candy and Kenny. Usually she'd be able to get ahead of them but for the past seven weeks she'd been hiding a secret. A secret she shared with Bailey. She knew she wouldn't be able to hide it soon but continued to cover it up with her cheerful personality.

She finally reached the top where Bailey stood waiting for her. The others were lying down a few meters behind panting.

'Are you ok?' Bailey asked, worriedly.

'I'm fine!' Amber chuckled, 'No need to worry so much!'

She licked Bailey's cheek when the others weren't watching and batted his nose with her tail as she turned to follow Candy and Kenny. Bailey grinned at her before following her.

'Hey guys!' called Candy, 'Let's play hide and seek, girls against boys!' Amber nodded and laughed, trotting over to Candy. Kenny went up to Bailey. He glanced at him quickly before pawing at the snow.

Bailey still hadn't forgiven him for getting Candy into trouble with the wolves but they were still friends.

'Ready?' he asked Kenny. Kenny grinned, knowing that he could feel safe again.

'You bet!' he said.

'You hide first!' Candy called.

Bailey and Kenny ran off to hide while Candy and Amber retreated to the trees to count. Amber was about to start counting but Candy stopped her.

'Hey, Amber?' said Candy, looking a bit nervous.

'Yeah, hun?' replied Amber.

'I know it's a silly and rude thing to ask, but how come you've put on weight recently? I mean usually you're really skinny and fast but for a little while I've noticed that you've been slowing down.'

'U-uh, well, err...' Amber didn't know what to say. She didn't want to tell Candy the truth just yet but she didn't want to sound like she was lying.

'Well, I've been eating more recently. I thought that eating more would make me run faster, i guess.' said Amber. She smiled and felt relieved when Candy seemed to bewlieve her. But really Candy didn't think Amber was telling the truth. She decided not to ask again and the two dogs went to look for Bailey and Kenny.

The next day, Bailey was on his way to Amber's house while Candy went to get Kenny. When he got there, though, Amber wasn't standing on the porch so he crept through the dog-door and went to whwere she slept. She was awake but didn't seem to want to get up.

'Hey, Amber!' said Bailey. Amber jumped and turned round. She smiled when she saw Bailey.

'Hiya, sugar.' she said, nuzzling his cheek.

'Why weren't you waiting?' asked Bailey.

'I was just thinking. Sorry.'

'S'ok!' said Bailey seeing her slightly sad face.

The two dogs walked out of the room leaning against each other till they got to the dog-door again. Amber crawled through first and Bailey gave her a nudge when she got stuck. He crawled out after her.

'Being pregnants not the best thing if ya can't get out of the door!' stated Amber as she picked herself up. No-one was around so Bailey licked her face a few times and Amber rubbed her head against his chest. They layed down on the porch together for a few minutes.

'So, what were you thinking about?' asked Bailey as he snuggled up closer to Amber.

'As if that's not obvious. Our pups!' she said. Bailey chuckled.

'I'm excited!' he said, nuzzling her.

'Me too!' said Amber, sighing, 'But I just hope we'll be good parents to them. Sometimes I feel that we're too young to be parents.'

'Don't you worry. We are gonna be the best parents ever!' He looked at her face and wrapped his tail round hers.

They closed their eyes for a few moments before Bailey reminded Amber that they needed to go. They got up, reluctantly and made their way down the alley. Amber started running and Bailey chased her to the main street. However, they didn't know that someone had been watching them the whole time.

'Where have you guys been?' asked Kenny, impatiently, 'We've been waiting forever!' Bailey was about to say something but Amber interrupted him.

'I went to sleep late last night and Bailey had to come wake me up!' she said, grinning sheepishly. Candy sighed. She had a small idea what was going on. She knew Bailey liked Amber.

He was probably asking her out, she thought and sighed.

she thought and sighed.

A week later, Bailey was taking a stroll on the outskirts of Nome. He was thinking about Amber and their soon-to-be pups. He moved further out and padded through the snow. His paws sinking deep into the snow left his large pawprints, deep in the snow.

Another dog was watching him. It was the same dog as before. He jumped out of his hiding place and lunged at Bailey. He slashed his nose and Bailey yelped. He turned round to see another dog getting up out of the snow. This dog was larger than him, almost twice as big. He was black and white with a black strip going down his nose and patches round his eyes. His eyes were the palest ice blue and he had massive paws.

'Who are you?' growled Bailey.

'I'm Blake, the oldest and strongest son of Steele!' barked the dog in reply, 'And unless you leave Amber alone, I'm going to have to kill you!'

'What are you talking about and why should I leave Amber alone?' asked Bailey.

'I know that you two are expexting puppies but there is something you didn't know! Amber is my girl and no-one else's. If I see you with her again, you are DEAD!' he snarled and walked off. Bailey watched him until he was out of site. He walked round the edge of the city and ran down an alley. He ran through a maze of alleys till he got to Amber's house. He looked around quickly before running up onto the door and scrambling through the dog-door. Amber's owners were out watch an evening race so he could go see her without being disturbed. He ran into her room and saw her curled up asleep on her cushion. Her tummy was very large now and she hadn't been out for a couple of days claiming that she was ill. Bailey slowly walked up to her and layed down next to her. He curled his self dround her so that their noses were almost touching. He snuggled close to her and closed his eyes. Every so often he'd feel her tummy move slightly and smiled. Sometimes Amber would wriggle round a bit and snuggle up to Bailey. He sighed and smiled as he felt her warm breath against his cheek and puppies squirming inside her tummy. He soon drifted off to sleep. He awaoke when Amber shifted.

'Hello, sugar.' she whispered.

'Hi.' replied Bailey. The two looked at each other but shot bolt upright with their ears pricked up when they heard a clatter from somewhere in the house.

Suddenly, Blake flew through the door and pounced on Bailey. They rolled and crashed into the wall. Amber jumped back and gasped. Blake kicked Bailey in the ribs and in the back until he fainted. He turned to Amber and grinned slyly. She backed away, afraid.

'Amber!' Blake said, rather slyly yet softly, 'Where have you been? I haven't seen you in ages!'

'Just stay away!' cried Amber, 'Why did you attack Bailey?'

'I warned him not to come near you again because, as we all know, you're my girl!'

'I am not your girl! Just because I liked you for a while doesn't mean I still do!'

'No need to get all fussed up! I'm leaving anyway!' He walked up to her and licked her acoss the face and nuzzled her cheek. Amber jumped back and snarled at him. He just chuckled.

'Later, sweetie-pie!' he said, walking out of the door. Sweetie-pie was an old nickname he'd given her when she used to go out with him as a teenage pup. She used to go all fluttery inside whenever he called her it but now she hated it.

Two days later, Amber slowly walked along the beach. She hadn't seen Bailey since the incident with Blake and was hoping he still wanted to see her. She decided that she should stop worrying and that if she was to be a good mother then first she had to keep fit. She started jogging a little but stopped after a few moments to catc her breath.

'I can't exercise with puppies in my tummy. I'll have to stop.' She started to walk again but slipped on the ice and fell onto her side hard.

My puppies! was the first thing she thought of. She started crying hard and heard someone running up to her.

was the first thing she thought of. She started crying hard and heard someone running up to her.

'Are you ok?' a sweet but scared voice asked. It was Candy. She helped Amber up, but she just sat down again, crying.

'Amber, are you hurt?' asked Candy.

'No,' she sobbed, 'But I think I hurt them though!'

'Them?' said Candy, confused. Amber decided that now was the time to tell Candy about her and Bailey's puppies.

'We've been hiding it for the past nine weeks because we didn't think you would approve of it. You've always been so protective over Bailey so I thought you'd turn on me. And now I think I've hurt the pups and I don't know if Bailey still loves me or what!' explained Amber after telling Candy about the puppies.

'Oh, Amber, ' said Candy, 'I wouldn't turn on you! You're my best friend! And besides I get to be an auntie!' She smiled and Amber giggled at the last statement. But her face fell again.

'But what about Bailey and the pups?' she said.

'Listen, you don't have to worry about Bailey. He's been talking about you non-stop. He's worried sick. All he says is that he wished that he could have protected you from that other dog! Besides, if you take it easy for a while I'm sure the puppies will be absolutely perfect!'

She said it so firmly that Amber had to blink a couple of times to make sure that it was the same sweet Candy that she was talking to.

'Thanks, Candy!' she said at last. The two of them walked up the frozen beach and bak into the town. Candy and Amber walked past all the other dogs to Bailey's house.

'I don't think I'll be able to fit through the dog-door!' said Amber.

'Don't be silly! Our dog-door is beigger than yours because this one was made for a massive dog that lived here before us! I'm sure it'll be perfect!' said Candy, crawling through.

Amber looked at the door. She bit her lip and scarmbled through.

'See! That wasn't so hard!' said Candy. She led Amber into their owners room where Bailey was.

'Bailey!' called Candy, 'There's someone here to see you!'

Bailey whipped round and his face lit up when he saw Amber. He ran over to the girls quickly.

'Have a good time you guys! And congratulations, Bailey!' Candy said, winking. Bailey looked confused as his sister left.

'What did she mean by that?' he asked Candy.

'Well, I told her about the pups.' replied Amber.

'But I thoguth we were keeping it a secret!' said Bailey.

'Yes, but something happened on the beach and I got scared and Candy was there so i had to tell her!' cried Amber, trying hard not to cry.

'If it was that dog again then I will hunt him down and rip him to shreds!' Bailey growled.

'No, it wasn't anything to do with Blake!' said Amber.

'Tell me what's happened then.' Bailey said, softly.

So Amber told Bailey how she thought being a fit mother would be of some help to her pups, she told him about getting tired and walking off, and she told him about slipping on the ice.

'Don't worry so much, Amber, I'm sure they'll be fine!' he told her, nuzzling her cheek. Candy was listening from outside the door. She smiled and left the house as silently as possible.

Bailey's feet flew across the snow. It seemed as though he barely touched the ground. He skidded to a halt in front of Balto's boat.

'Woah!' cried his dad, laughing, 'What's up?'

'Dad! You'll never guess what! I've been meaning to tell you for ages but we were keeping it a secret!'

'Keeping what a secret?' laughed his dad, seeing how eager his son was.

'Well, For a few months I've been going out with Amber. But we're having puppies!' he nearly shouted, as if he wanted the world to know. Balto just looked at his son.

'When wil they be born? Did you just find out recently?'

Bailey blushed.

'Not really. We've been trying to keep it a secret the past couple of months because we weren't sure what everyone would think.' he said, then his eyes lit up again, 'But now we're ready to tell everyone. She'll be having the puppies any day now!'

Balto siughed and shook his head, smiling.

'I wish you would have told me sooner. Then I'd have more time to get used to the fact that I'm donna be a grandad!'

The two canines laughed and spent ages talking about puppies.

'Let's go tell your mother!' said Balto at last. Bailey agreed and the two dogs ran all the way to Jenna's house.

'Hey, what's the rush?' asked Jenna, standing on the porch.

'Our son is going to be a dad!' balto said, proudly.

'Really!' said Jenna, 'Oh, my! Bailey, dear, how long have you known this for?'

'Ages mum! And it's been hard holding it in!' replied Bailey.

'Wgo's the mother?' asked Jenna, curiously.

'Amber!' said Balto, as his son was dancing around, oblivious to what was going on.

'She's such a sweet girl! I'm actually really glad he chose her to be mates with!' stated Jenna.

Later that day, Kenny and Candy were walking along with Bailey and Amber, congratulating them.

'Oh boy, I wish I could have pups one day!' said Kenny, glancing over at Candy.

'So do I!' sighed Candy.

'It's not that easy ya know!' laughed Amber, 'I know I haven't had the little dears yet but I know already that it'll be hard work!'

'And I'll be right by your side the whole time!' grinned Bailey.

They were about to walk down the alley leading to Amber's house when a large furry black thing jumped and pounced on Bailey. It ripped at his body and when Bailey finally managed to throw it off he had scratches and cuts down his back and legs. He whipped round and just managed to duck from another attack. It was Blake.

'What do you think you're doing?' cried Candy.

'Blake stop it!' shouted Amber.

'No way! I told him that if I ever saw you two together again, I'd kill him!' he snarled, lunging at Bailey. The two dogs rolled over and over, Blake trying to rip Bailey to shreds, Bailey trying to throw his attacker off.

Candy jumped in followed by Kenny.

'No, please, stop!' cried Amber. The three dogs managed to thow the large malamute off of them. He thudded against a wall and lay limp at the bottom for a moment. His eyes suddenly flickered open and he jumped up. As he put is paw down on his front right paw he yelped with pain. Bailey and the others hardly noticed. They were panting hard over where Amber was. Amber was licking at Baikey's cuts, a worried look on her face. Blake tried to move toward them but keep having to lean on his broken paw.

'Let's go.' whispered Candy. The others agreed and the four of them walked down the alley. They went through a whole raft of alleys before getting to the one that led to Amber's house.

'C'mon!' said Kenny.

'Aaargh!' cried Amber falling forwards a little.

'Amber!' said Bailey.

'What's wrong?' asked Candy.

'Puppies!' cried Amber through gritted teeth. The other three looked alarmed all of a sudden. Bailey started panicking. He started walking round in circles going hysterical. Candy bit the end of his tail and told him to get his act together.

'Thanks!' said Bailey. Amber was rolling round the floor by this time, tears streaming down her face. Bailey suddenly had an idea. He bent down next to Amber and motioned for the others to pull her onto his back. They did as the were told and ran either side od Bailey as they rushed to Amber's house. When they got there Kenny scratched on the door. Amber's own came and saw her dog and ushered them in, immediately calling the vet. The vet arrived not long after. Candy and Kenny sat outside the living-room door while Bailey was allowed in.

He sat by Amber licking her face for comfort. His own wounds no longer bothered him. It seemed to take forever.

This'll never end! Amber thought as the hot pains surged through her belly. They were like hot coals, burning fire, flaming demons ripping and tearing her insides, pulling and stretching her sides. She gave one last push and the pains slowly went away. She was panting heavily and felt hot and weak. Bailey licked her face over and over again. She similed up at him before turning to find her puppies.

'It's a shame,' the vet said, 'Seven little puppies, one of them died.'

Amber sat up a little shakily looking for the rest of her newborn pups. They were laid next to her and she licked them over and over again. Bailey picked up the last from the vets hands before he could stop the dog. Amber saw the little puppy and licked it. She kept licking it and it suddenly made a little squeak. Amber kept licking it until it started making lots of noise. The vet looked astonished. Bailey put the pup next to Amber and laid down with them to keep them wrm.

'It's a miracle!' breathed the vet.

'I guess that other dog must be the father,' said Amber's owner, 'I didn't even know she was having puppies until the four dogs appeared on the doorstep!'

'Surprises!' said the vet. He packed up and left leaving the four dogs and Amber's owner to gaze lovingly at the puppies.

'Hey, what should we call them?' said Bailey.

'Well, this little guy ought to be called Miracle!' Amber said nudging the smallest who was thought dead. Bailey nodded. The pup was just like Bailey except for his brown ears and front right paw.

'Peggy, Dialo, Jeff, ' they said looking at a female golden puppy with a red stripe down it's nose, a male puppy that was dark red and looked like Dingo with a chocolate coloured tail, and another male that was golden with a red tail, ears and front paws.

'Elise.' said Candy licking a little female puppy that looked like an ordinary husky like Kodi and Jenna except for it's caramel coloured fur.

'How about you two name the last two pups?' suggested Amber, looking at the new 'aunt' and 'uncle'.

'Scarlett.' said Candy, looking at a female puppy with deep reddish fur, a white muzzle, belly, chest and feet and white patches round it's eyes.

'Dipstick!' said Kenny, looking at the last puppy. He was a very odd-looking puppy. He was red with white paws but he had golden rings just under the red on his legs, brown along his tail, grey-brown ears and patches round his ears.

The other dogs looked at him, oddly.

'Well, he is kinda strange.' said Kenny, uneasily, thinking he may have made a mistake.

'I guess you're right!' said Amber.

Within the next two weeks the pups grew in size and their personalities started to show.

Miracle was kind of shy but liked to be in the middle to stay warm. Peggy liked to stretch out elegantly as if posing for something. Dialo was the largest and usually stayed on the outside of his brothers and sisters except when they were hungry and he'd push through them all. Jeff was a bit of a mummy's boy and liked to snuggle up in Amber's front paws or by her mouth. Elise seemed to be a bit of a rebel. She stayed as far away as possible from the other pups and would snarl at them in her puppie-ish way if they tried to snuggle up to her. Scarlett was very kind and enjoyed her brothers and sisters company. And Dipstick was the youngest and smallest of the litter. He was very curious for such a young pup. He'd inspect different parts of his bed, only just managing to wobble around on his untrained baby legs.

Bailey also visited often. Every day, in fact. He'd leave late and come early. He hardly ever spent time with his other family anymore. This made Balto a little sad because he wanted to know what his grandchildren looked like.

When the pups were four weeks old they were allowed out on the porch. balto had come especially to see them. He sat outised waiting while Bailey went in to get them and Amber. They came out one by one, stumbling after getting through the door. First came Dialo, trying to be the big boss. Then followed Jeff, Scarlett, Miracle, Peggy, Dipstick and finally Elise. Balto looked at them all in such a way that Bailey knew he couldn't possibly say anything. Balto looked a little shocked, or surprised when he saw little Elise. Not because of her rebellish ways but her appearance. It brought back memories to Balto that he forget he had.

'What's the little caramel-coloured one called?' Balto asked Bailey.

'Oh, that's Elise. She can be a bit nasty sometimes so watch out!' replied Bailey.

Balto walked up to Elise and smiled. Elise turned away to start with but Balto sat down beside her and she was getting a bit curious.

'Hi there!' greeted Balto, 'You're Elise aren't you?'

The little puppy nodded her head before sayin, 'Are you my papa's papa?'

Balto grinned. 'That's me!' he said.

'You remind me of someone!' Balto said to Elise.

'Who?' asked Elise, starting to like this new person.

'Your colours and patterns are exactly the same as my father.' said Balto, 'You remind me of him.'

'But I'm a girl not a boy!' protested Elise.

'I know that, ' said Balto, 'But you have the same fur pattern. You should be proud!'

'Ok, then I will!' said Elise.

Before long, Balto had become friends with all the puppies and visited them on the porch alot. He was especially close to Elise, whom he spent time talking to the most.

At eight weeks old, the pups were going to homes. The puppies ran about in their box, wondering why they couldn't go find their own human.

Soon, two children appeared at the box and stroked the playful puppies. They soon picked up Peggy and Jeff. The rest of the puppies waved goodbye. Not long later, an older man came and picked up Scarlett. Two teenage girls picked up Elise who snarled and scratched at them. They dropped her back in the box where she sat in the corner scowling.

'Elise, you sg#houldn't be like that!' Amber said.

'I don't want to be adopted!' huffed Elise.

'Why not?' asked Bailey.

'Because I wanna stay with Grandpa!' she said, sticking out her bottom lip. Amber and Bailey looked at one another not knowing what to do.

'And why's that?' asked Amber.

'Because Grandpa knows me better than anyone else ever could!' Elise said simply. She was very mature for her age in some ways.

'But, Elise, you can't!' said Bailey, 'You can have a good home somewhere where you'll always be fed, be warm, have nice owners-'

'Well, I'm staying with Grandpa, and you can't stop me!'

'Oh, so you want to spend your life on a rundown boat with hardly any food and be frozen to death?' said Bailey, getting very cross, 'Well be my guest!'

He picked Elise up out of the box and dropped her next to it. She looked up at her dad, who looked down at her as if wondering why he did that.

'Elise.' he said, about to put his paw on her.

'Fine!' the little pup yelled, running off, 'I will!'

'Elise!' yelled Bailey, 'Come back!'

But the little pup didn't listen and kept on running. She wasn't sure where she was going because she hadn't paid attention on their first and only trip to visit balto. She kept running, on and on, not looking back. She snarled and dodged the people who saw her and tried to pick her up or pet her. Soon she arrived at the end of the town.

'This looks familiar!' she said to herself.

She was about to take another step, but a large black and white dog jumped in front of her, his piercing blue eyes gazing down at her, menacingly. It was Blake. Elise noticed he had a pink nose and giggled slightly.

'What?' snapped the dog. Elise close her mouth and stared up at the large dog, terrified. Blake smiled a nasty smile.

'Well, then, little pup!' he said, with an evil grin, 'What are you doing out on your own?'

Elise opened her mouth to scream but no noise came from her.

'Don't worry. This'll only hurt for a second!'

He opened his jaws, showing his sharp, white teeth. He was about to clamp his mouth round her when Balto jumped at him.

'Grandpa Balto!' squealed Elise, suddenly getting her voice back. She was about to run over to help but another pair over teeth closed around the scruff of her neck. She screamed.

'Hush, Elise!' said Bailey.

'Papa!' cried Elise, twizzling round to hug her father's chin. Bailey ran over to one of the houses and put his daughter in the gap under the porch.

'Please, Elise, just stay here!' pleaded Bailey. His daughter nodded so he turned and ran back to Balto and Blake. He pounced onto Blake's back but was tiny compared to the black and white malamute. He bit onto his neck and growled and shook his head. Blake roared, throwing the small red and white dog onto the floor. Balto pounced onto him and Bailey got up and did the same.

Elise watched from under the porch.

'Papa said to stay here, but I can't let that big bully hurt him and Grandpa!' said Elise, bravely. She ran out of her hiding palce and right up to Blake. She bit him hard on the foot with her little puppy teeth and he howled. He threw his paw into the air and Elise let go and went soaring through the air. She smacked straight into the floor with a loud thud.

'ELISE!!' screamed Bailey, jumping off Blake and running up to his daughter. She was lying limp on the floor, barely moving. All that could be seen was the slight rise and fall of her stomach. Bailey's wolf side suddenly took him over. He'd never felt it before but now he realised he really did have some of his father's wolfness inside him after. But he couldn't stop and think about it. He lunged at Blake barely knowing what was going on. He ripped at the back of the larger dogs neck, and ripped off hair and made a huge gash which starting pouring blood all over Blake's clean black fur and Bailey's white/cream paws. But Bailey hardly noticed. He wouldn't stop until Blake got what he deserved. But Blake decided that he shouldn't be pushed around like that and span round making Bailey fall off sideways. But the he hadn't had enough and bit onto his front paw and kicked upwards at Blake's chin.

'Bailey...' said Balto, not realising that his son could be like this.

Then it all stopped. Blake and Bailey were standing about two metres away from each other. Balto looked behind him before realising why they were motionless. Standing behind him, bent low, ears back, teeth bared and tails swishing gently were Jenna, Kodi, Saba, Dingo and Winona. They were all ready to fight. Balto smiled at his family. He knew Jenna could help. She had already proved herself to be brave. Kodi had helped to rescue Duke. Dingo was extremely strong. He was taller than both his parents, having the build of a true wolf. Saba preferred rough and tumble, rough-housing in the streets with all the males. But Balto had to admire little Winona the most. She was the runt of the litter and hadn't grown as big as even Jenna. She had shorter legs, darker fur and was an angry, impatient sort because she felt she wasn't able to do what her brothers and sisters could. She was a bit of a hot-head and hated people bullying her family. That was her job. But now, the whole family was theer, excluding Aleu, and were ready to help.

'Stay away, Blake!' Balto growled, lowering himself and bending his ears back.

'Leave my son alone!' snapped a voice. A bright red female husky jumped out of the shadows and stood in front of Blake. She was dainty like Jenna and had glossy red fur, auburn eyes and black tipped ears. But she had a nasty look to her. Bailey growled and stepped back a little.

'Who are you?' barked Balto.

'Scarlett!' cried Jenna.

'Jenna?' said the husky, now named Scarlett.

'What's going on?' asked Balto.

'Balto, this is my sister.' said Jenna, somewhat weakly.

'What?!' snapped Winona, 'You mean she's our aunt?'

Jenna nodded, uncertaintly. She didn't want to make things worse.

'But that means he's our-'

'Your cousin!' growled Balto.

A large black and white malamute walked out too.

'Ah, I see you found Lobo!' said Steele.

'Oh, this just keeps getting better!' snarled Winona, sarcastically.

'Steele!' said Balto, 'Long time no see!'

'Oh, don't worry, wolf-dog, I'm not staying for long!' said Steele, 'I'm here to see my son Blake and them I'm going back to White Mountain. Things are much more exciting up there!'

'Wait,' said Jenna, 'Scarlett, does that mean your with Steele?'

Scarlett grinned at Steele. 'You bet!' she said. Then she came across evil, 'And he's soo much better than the hybrid friend of yours. I can't believe your with that thing. These your kids? They smell of wolf!'

She saw Dingo.

'Look at him!' she said, making everyone turn their attention to Dingo, 'He's like a husky-sized wolf. It's disgusting.'

She shrugged and smiled, 'But at least you don't have any little wolf brats trailing around here, though.'

'Well, actually, we do. She's away with a wolf pack, though.' said Jenna, timidly. Scarlett had always intimidated Jenna when they were pups.

Scarlett frowned and bared her teeth.

'Disgusting!' she said again, shaking her head. She spat on the floor then walked away.

'Come on, Blake!' said Steele, 'We'll leave the wolfies to rip tjemselves to pieces!'

Steele and Blake walked off.

'That family!' gasped Balto, 'A bunch of troublemakers!'

The family heard a whimper and Saba rushed over and found Elise. The pup was still lying on the floor but had her eyes open, sleepily.

'Bailey!' called Saba. Bailey ran over and nuzzled his daughter.

'Elise,' he said, 'I told you to stay put!'

'I know-'

'Why did you come out here?'

'To help you and Grandpa.' said Elise.

Bailey looked at his daugheter with kind but firm eyes for a moment.

'Can I still live with Grandpa?' asked Elise, staring up at Bailey with big hopeful eyes. Bailey thought for a moment, not knowing what to say. Candy walked up behind him. Bailey looked at his 'sister' and she smiled at him and nodded.

'Ok!' said Bailey. Elise jumped up at her fathers paws and hugged him. She stood up, a little shakily, and ran over to Balto. She climbed up onto Balto's back like she was a little cat and jumped onto his face.

Bailey hugged Balto, Jenna and the rest of his family and told Elise to be good. She agreed to but soon went back to her moodyish ways. Except when she was with Balto. Then she'd been the sweetest, friendliest little pup ever.
