Awakening - Part 2

"You should know how dangerous these streets are - they ain't made for a purebred like you."

The creatures stalked around the petite golden dog, the leader glaring at the pathetic female who was cowering in the center of the ring. The other laughed at her as she continued to shudder, trying to back up but then deciding it would be better to stay where she was, in fear that she would bump into one of the gang dogs surrounding her.

The leader of the group was tall, not quite muscular, but had eyes that could scare off even the most fiercest of creatures. His shirt was a plain color - black - and he wore shaggy jeans that seemed to have been torn with the blade of a knife one too many times. His tail was thin, his fur bunched in clumps. You could tell he'd been around the streets for a while now - his parents probably didn't treat him too well, either. He had a long scar, reaching from the top of his folded-over ear and down across his left eye, which was covered by his black hair.

The ice blue eye seemed to be fogged over slightly, giving him an even scarier look. And although he was blinded in that eye, making him semi-handicapped, the other creatures feared him anyways.

"Y'know where ya are?" The leader stopped, looking at the scared dog for a second, his blind eye staring straight at her, even though he couldn't see where she was with that side. "Y'know who's territory you've wander'd into?"

The purebred shook her head hesitantly. The lead dog smirked.

"Yer in my territory. An' ya know what I do to the pups who wander into my territory?"

She shook her head again, taking a pace backwards as the leader came closer to her, a small smirk on his face.

"I don't think ya wanna know."

The purebred stumbled back, yelping loudly in pain as she fell towards the ground. The lead dog laughed harshly as he pulled back the claws he had swept across the dog's face moments earlier. The others around him grinned a bit, but the leader noticed the grins quickly faded into looks of slight anger moments later.

The lead dog had no time to ask what was bothering them.

A snarling figure was pinning him to the ground, his brownish fur rising with intensity, his multi-colored eyes piercing through the ice-blue eyes of the figure below him. His large claws were visible, as if ready to strike at him any moment soon. The sledding collar that was fastened around his neck looked like it could burst off at any moment from the anger inside of him.

"Leave her alone, Riely." The dog on top spat, his hackles rising with every heavy breath he took.

The dog below him showed no fear.

"Let me go and I'll consider it."

The dog on top seemed to glance at the small female on the ground, three small cut marks on her face from the other dog's aggression. He knew he couldn't risk it happening again.

Riely seemed to hold a sinister smile on his muzzle as the other dog got up.

"Why is this girl so important to you, Buck?" Riely stared at him through his one good eye. "Nothing's ever been important to you before."

Buck growled at Riely, baring his teeth, but not saying a word in response. Riely's grin seemed to fade a bit.

"Ah, I think I know the problem." Riely stepped towards Buck, his grin still held firmly on his face. Buck held his ground as Riely began to speak. "Ever since you left us, we've noticed a change in you. You're not longer the cold dog you left us as.. in fact.. I don't think you even know the difference between hot and cold anymore.."

"What are you getting at, Riely.."

"Oh, you know exactly what I'm getting at, Buck." Riely took a step closer, so his muzzle extended towards Buck's ear. "I think that Constar Gang has softened you up." Riely pulled back, noticing the harsh glare that seemed to sweep over Buck's face. Riely smirked, flicking his tail for his gang to leave.

"Leave him the dog. She's obviously of no use to us if she's been being trained by him."

Riely was the last to leave, leaving Buck and the female in the now abandoned alleyway.

Buck glared down at the purebred, who he noticed had gotten up. She glanced towards him awkwardly, knowing she made him angry just by the look he gave her. There seemed to be a moment of silence before Buck flicked his tail, signaling for them to leave.

"Time to go." Buck's voice was bitter, and the purebred followed him quickly behind, her tail and head lowered, blood and the beginning of tears to dripping from her face...

--

"Why'd he let him off so easily?"

"Buck's not the one going soft - Riely is."

"We should have killed the purebred and the traitor when we got the chance."

Hushed voices flew around the abandoned shack as a small group of mixed creatures huddled around a propped up piece of wood.

The shack wasn't exactly a beautiful site - the paint of the walls were peeling, the door was almost completely off it's hinges, and the windows were almost all blown out - whether it be by a gun shot or by one of the many earlier fights that had taken place between leader and member, the place was nearly destroyed in either way.

The meeting table in the center was probably the best part of the shack, despite it's shabby appearance as well. It balanced almost perfectly on four lone chunks of wood. The table, though, was not nailed down, and any strong force against the table could send it sprawling down to the ground.

The whispers around the room stopped as the leader stalked into the room, his posture stiff. There was no doubt he had heard the gossip about him and the incident that took place earlier today, but he had better things to do and didn't let that get ahold of him.

Riely didn't take a seat at the table. Instead, he began to talk, still pacing around the room.

"You want to know why I let him off so easily, huh?" He spat, glaring at the one dog who had dared utter the words. "Y'all think I'm going soft, do ya?"

The other animals stayed perfectly still, Riely taking that as a yes. His voice lowered to a threatening tone, almost hissing out the words.

"I am not going soft. Constar is the strongest gang in the city, and everyone knows it. Their leader is like no other, their members are different on every level. But do you know who used to be the strongest, bravest, most well known gang in the city before Constar decided to kick them away?" Riely stopped, his harsh eyes glaring at his pack.

"We were." One piped up.

"Exactly. And who's dream of ruling the city was crushed when Constar took over?"

"Ours!"

"I know we all know how loyal Buck is to his gang. Even as a member of ours, he stuck by us 'till he left. But ever since he joined Constar, he has brought it up in status. With every new pup, kitten, and child that knows the name of Constar, that's one less who know the name of Draconis. And if we want to get up in power, we have to take Constar down."

Riely paused for a second, lowering his voice down once again, almost as if someone from a rival gang were listening in on the conversation.

"I know how to make Constar weak. I know Buck cares about that purebred. And when he cares for something, he sometimes has too much love for it. If we can kill the purebred, we can kill the Constar gang. And if we defeat the Constar gang, who will be the best gang out there?"

"Draconis!"

"And who will then take over the territories?"

"Draconis!"

"Stick to Draconis!" Riely shouted out, soon being muffled by five or six loud shouts, declaring the name.

"Draconis! Draconis!" It sounded like it was being shouted a million times, with the force of a rumble about to take place. Riely closed his eyes, savoring the shouts that rang through his ears. Oh yes, soon his plan would be in place. Soon, they would declare war on Constar. Soon they would win.

Soon, Draconis would rule once again, and nothing would stop them from achieving their goal...
