Apaulo’s life

            Nursery Cave, Wolf Ridge.

“Out of my way, my mates giving birth.” The alpha named Dart was running towards his mates location, for she was giving birth. “Finally I made it! My dear!”

“Please Mr. Dart, we can’t allow you to enter. She’s still giving birth.” One of the nursery guards requested him.

“B-But… fine.” Dart walked back towards the west where he came from when he was called.

“Dart my son, today is a proud day for you.” It was his father Nava.

“Father how is she? How’s the pup?” Dart asked his father.

“They are doing fine, they’re both healthy. Would you like to see your new family?”

“YES YES!” Dart replied excitedly. He ran into the cave where his mate, Breeze, was laying with a single pup drinking from her bosom. “Is this it? Just one?”

“Please dear…..” Breeze said weakly. “Enjoy the new life we have created.”

“Well I also was an only child myself, but he looks wonderful anyway.”

“What do you think we should call him?” Breeze asked.

“Hmm. He looks athletic, look at his muscles and his form. For some reason he reminds me of the sun and light despite his coloring….. which seems to be very peculiar.”

“You know there was once a mythological god that seems to fit this little ones description, and his name was Apollo.” Breeze suggested.

“Well, how about we him sound a little more modern, we shall just change its spelling.” Dart suggested.

“I suppose you’re right. We shall spell it, A-p-a-u-l-o, Apaulo.” Then suddenly something poked out of the pups back. “MY GOD! WHAT ARE THOSE!” The pup began crying.

“I don’t know, this is not normal! It’s a mutation!” Dart became nervous.

“What if everyone sees them, he’ll be considered and outcast and probably be banished!” Breeze said with concern for new pup hoping his crying would stop.

“I’ll tell them it was a premature birth and he isn’t healthy enough to be shown to the others.” Dart walked outside the cave and told the other wolves awaiting the pup.

“Don’t worry my darling, you’ll be safe, you’ll be able to live a normal wolves life.” Breeze began to show tears, but the pup became calm again and continued sucking on her bosom.

Pup Play Area, Wolf Ridge

Apaulo is now five months old, ready to face the world for the first time. “Now my son make sure to keep those leaves on your back, to hide those spikes of yours.”

“But papa, please I look silly with this. Apaulo complained.

“It is better than showing the other pups your quills!, so be quiet and don’t draw to much attention to yourself.” Dart said with frustrated voice. Apaulo shrank back in fear of his father. The sound of pups laughter and yipping was now clear to the ear. “There you are, some new friends, go and mingle.” Dart shoved his son closer to the grassy area. Slowly Apaulo made his way to of the pups that didn’t seem to be having as much of a fun time as the others. Apaulo began to run up to him, but little did he know that he began to run a high speed, much too fast for a pup his age. Any age at his rate. The adults looked at him as they saw the pup become blurry, running towards the black pup that sat in front of him.  Apaulo noticed his strange paced and braked, unfortunately he didn’t stop in time, and crashed into the black pup.

“HEY WHAT’S YOUR PROBLEM YOU STUPID….” The black pup yelled at him. Apaulo once again cowered. “I mean, that weird what you did right now. What’s your name pup?” The black pup asked in a calmer tone.

            “Um….. Apaulo…” Apaulo responded.

“I’m Niju, say ya wanna hang out with me and my friends?” Niju invited Apaulo.

“S-Shu-Sure!” Apaulo became happy, finally able to make his first friends. Only now Dart was watching his son more closely now.

“He Dart…. was that your kid running like that?” It was Niju’s father. He had been Dart’s friend for years.

“Um, yes he is.” Dart replied.

“Most unusual, he’s only five months old and he is able to run at a speed faster than the caribou. Is there anything else about him you noticed that’s not normal?”

“Please, Tac, don’t talk about my son like that, I don’t care if he’s different, I’m proud of him.” Dart turned back to his son and Tac walked away. Niju was introducing his friends to Apaulo.

“This is Nuk, this Yak, and this is Sumac. Guys this is Apaulo.” The three wolves said their hellos.

“Um hi.”Apaulo said nervously trying to be calm.

“Why you wearing thise eh uh…. leaf thingies.” Sumac asked.

“Hahah, yeaah! He looks funny.” Yak added.

“Yeaah um looks like… um… a …. weird.” Nuk said. Apaulo became ashamed, and began to walk away slowly backwards. Niju turned to his three friends.

“You idiots!” Niju whispered to them.  “You’re going to scare him away! Uh c’mon Apaulo, they’re just joking heh.” He requested Apaulo to return. As we escorted Apaulo back to the others, he asked Apaulo. “But seriously, what’s with the leaves?” Apaulo became freighted, he didn’t know what to do.

“I-I- I can’t say,  my dad doesn’t want me to.” Apaulo told Niju.

“Why? You afraid daddy will get made at you?” Niju said teasing him.

“N-no, I um I can’t show you, cause you’ll think they’re weird and not want to be my friends any more.” Apaulo said starting to whimper.

“No way! C’mon just lift it up and show us what’s underneath those leaves.” Niju forced him. Apaulo began to cry as Niju lifted up the leafs slowly. “WHAT THE HELL!” All the adults looked at Niju surprised that a young pup had just cursed.

“NIJU!” Tac ran up to his son.”WHAT DID YOU JUST…. AAAHHH!” Tac noticed Apaulo’s spikes. “MY GOD!!!, I KNEW there was something weird about him. Get away Niju.” Tac commanded his son.

“What is he dad?” Niju said surprised.

“He is a mutant, an outsider, a demon.” Tac said right in Apaulo’s face. Apaulo began to cry again, and Dart ran infront of Tac. “DART GET OUT OF MY WAY!, He must be destroyed.”

“Why? He hasn’t done anything wrong! So he looks different, that doesn’t mean he’s not normal.” Dart said enraged. The other Alphas began to stare at Apaulo and at the whole scene. “C’mon Apaulo let’s go home.”

“YOU WON’T BE ABLE TO HIDE HIM DART! We will find him and dispose of him.” Tac said threateningly.

Dart’s cave, Wolf Ridge, night time

“Dear, it’s just as I feared, there’s a whole mob outside what do we do?” Breeze said in fear.

“We must hide him.” Dart told his mate. Dart ran to the back most part of the cave where Apaulo was. ‘Apaulo listen to me, remember what I said about your running, well forget about that, I want you to run as fast as you can, from here, quickly, NOW!”

“ As fast as I can?!” Apaulo asked not knowing what to expect.

“”YES! Now go GO!” Apaulo went out through the back exit of the cave and ran. Mean whie inside the cave the mob was searching for Apaulo in the cave.

“DAMN he isn’t here.” Tac said frustrated. “WHERE IS HE!?”

“We don’t know, he ran away when we brought him back home. Breeze told him trying to reassure him.

“We’re not buying it. HE IS STILL HERE! Tell us where he is or we’ll tear this place apart trying.” Tac commanded them.

“WE DON’T KNOW!” Dart yelled at him.

“We were good friends Dart, tell me!’

“NO!” Dart said scratching Tac in the face. Everyone gasped at this.

“FINE! Dismantle this place form the ground up until you find the mutant! I gave you you’re chance Dart.” Tac walked out as the wolves began wrecking the cave.

Meanwhile, in the woods, Apaulo hid in a bush as he watched his home collapse. “MAMA, PAPA! NOOoo! (cries)” Apaulo became so sad at the fact that his home was destroyed, and his parents were killed in the collapse. Then Apaulo heard someone padding up behind him.

“Do not worry young one, stay here, I shall return.” It was Nava reassuring the pup that everything would be alright. Nava walked towards the mob infuriated. “WHAT HAPPENED HERE!?” He yelled out. “WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS!?” Nava was enraged. Tac stepped out.

“I am Alpha Shawman. There was a mutant wolf in your sons cave. It was your sons choice to not reveal the mutants location.” Tac explained.

“THAT MUTANT WAS MY GRANDSON!” Nava yelled at Tac.

“We-we-we know that….. wait are you saying you don’t care?” Tac asked surprised.

“NO! So he was different, that matters not. What mattered was that he had a family that died in vain, for no reason, innocent lives gone, for what?” Nava turned around and walked toward the now collapsed cave. “Oh my son, why?” nava faced the mob. “GO TO YOUR HOMES! FORGET WHAT HAS HAPPENED TONIGHT!” Nava commanded them, and the mob turned and went to their individual homes. Tac hesitantly walked back also followed by Niju who always kept looking back at the rubble.

“That little freak got what he deserved.” Niju said to himself.

Shawman’s Home, Wolf Ridge, night

Nava went back to his home hearing weeping within, he went inside and saw Apaulo covering his eyes. “Don’t worry young one, you are safe.”

“M-mama, p-p-papa……” Poor Apaulo felt alone.

“I will take of you, now go to sleep, everything will be better in the morning.” It took a while but Apaulo fell asleep laying down besides Nava. That night Nava had a dream. The white wolf spoke to him, about Apaulo’s destiny.

“He has the ability to use athletic, offensive and defensive combat tactics. You being like him shall be responsible.” In the morning Nava knew what to do with this new pup.

“I shall train him, and in the future when he’s ready, he shall become the guardian of the floating Island.
