Kale felt sick as he ran, ignoring the calls of the red hybrid who chased him. Tears blurred his vision, his heart felt like it had been ripped in half then burned to ashes. "Idiot!" his thoughts screamed at him.

Ever since coming to Nome from Colorado, Kale had quickly discoverd two things he loved about it. 1. he didn't have to live in a fenced in backyard, so he was free to run whenever he wanted, and 2. Amore. Amore was the daughter of the famous Balto, and she was quite the stunner. Kale fell in love with her the minute he met her, but he hadn't told her, but today he was determind to change that.
Kale walked through the streets of Nome looking for Amore. She hadn't been at her house, her dads boat, her moms house, or the boiler room. "Where is she?" he thought, then a blur of red caught his eye. "Amore!" he called happily, but when the red blur stopped and turned, it wasn't Amore's face, it was Saba's, Amore's sister. "Oh, um, hi, Saba." he said, the red and cream hybrid walked over to him, looking curious. "You looking for Amore?" she asked, he nodded. She just stared at him, he felt his face heat up, "You like her don't you?" she finaly asked. Kale flushed, "Well, I, uh.." he stamerd, "Look, I Know you like her, and I bet I know why your looking for her." Saba told him. Kale flushed even more, but nodded. Saba smiled, "Well, I haven't seen her anywhere." she turned and started walking away, "Mabey shes in the woods." she called over her shoulder.
Kale's ears twitched at that. Of course! Amore loved the forest! He wheeled around and ran off.
Kale spent hours looking for Amore in the forest, but found no sign of her anywhere. Not even by the river, her favorite place. Tired and disapointed, Kale headed home.
As he walked down the dark streets of Nome, he kept his eyes peeled for Amore. No sign of her. Kale hung his head and continued walking. Suddenly, he heard pawsteps coming toward him. Hoping it was Amore, his head snapped up. But it wasn't Amore. Instead he saw a white malamute running toward him. Judging from it's build it was male. As it came closer, it slowed down and stopped in front of him. They starred at each other, faces emotionless. The malamute then just walked right past him before running off again.
Kale watched him round the corner and go out of sight. Kale shrugged and continued for home.
The next morning, Kale bolted out the door and almost tripped over Lulu, one of Amore's friends. "Oh! Good morning Kale!" she greeted cheerfully. Kale smiled and nodded, "Morning Lulu. Have you seen Amore around?" he asked hopfully. Lulu nodded, her eyes curious, "Yes, why?" she asked. Kale blushed slightly, "I, uh, have something to tell her." Lulu had seen males and females act like this before, and she knew imedetly what he wanted to tell her. "Poor guy.." she thought, her smile faded slightly. Kale didn't seem to notice.
"Well? Where is she?" he asked, his tail wagging slightly. "Oh man, how do I tell him.." she thought, "Well, shes at her house bu.." "Great! Thanks Lulu!" Kale cut her off and ran toward Amore's house. "But Kale Wait!" she cried out despretly, but he didn't seem to hear. "Oh no.." she murmerd.
Kale skidded to a hault a few feet away from Amore's porch. He was shaking with nervusness and excitment. Nervusness because she might say no, excitment because she might say yes. He took a deep breath and walked up the porch steps. He was just about to scratch at the door when he heard laughter from inside. It was defently Amore's, but it didn't sound like she was alone. Figuring it was just one of her friends, her scratched at the door. "Come in." Amore's voice anserwed. He smiled, but hesitated for a minute, he'd decided eailer that he was just going to ask straight out, but he was still nervus. Shaking his head, he slipped through the doggie door.
"Amore.." he stopped in his tracks. Right in front of him was Amore and that white malamute! Amore smiled softly at the malamute, then turned to Kale. "Hi Kale!" she said happily, Kale just starred at the malamute. Amore looked at the malamute, "Teirm this is Kale." she turned back to Kale, "Kale this is Teirm, my mate." Kale felt as if he had been kicked in the stomach. Mate? This malamute was Amore's, Mate? Amore looked at Kale, "Kale? Are you okay?" she asked. "Hes your...mate?" he asked, his voice barley a whisper. Amore nodded slowly, then her eyes widened as she realized why he looked like he did. "Oh Kale, I'm sorry! I-I didn't know!" she cried, but Kale just backed away, then turned and ran out the door.
Amore chased after him, "Kale! Please!" she cried, but he was already half way down the street. Amore ran after him, but then he turned into a alleyway. Amore followed, but he had disapered. "Kale?!" she cried out, 'Kale, Please! Can't we talk?!" she called out despretly. But he had ducked behind a pile of crates and slipped through a hole in the fence. He heard her cries, but they where faint. Tears blinded his vision as he ran, "Idiot! You should have known you'd never have a chance! She never loved you like that!" he thought. He ran until he had reached a hill on the outside of Nome. There he collapsed and tears flowed down his cheeks.
