“Dancing with Death”
By: Nightwish fan
One breezy day in Autumn, Lucky the husky sits by his masters side, gazing at a beautiful black cat…
Lucky was different from other dogs. For you see, he was not interested in the female dogs of Nome, he was more into cats. There was one in particular that he like the most, and her name, was Jinx. She was a cat as black as soot with glowing green eyes and he had known her since he was a pup. The only problem with this, was that Lucky was very shy around her. It didn’t matter what he was doing, when Jinx arrived, he froze up. Well today Lucky decided to do something different. Today he was determined to speak to her. So with a deep breath and a heavy sigh he left his master’s side and walked over to her. “Hi Jinx”, he said nervously. “Oh, hi Lucky”, she said with a purr, “how are you?”. “Uhh…er…good, I’m doing good” , he said blushing, “how about you?”. “I’m okay I guess; just a little lonely”. “Lonely? Why?”, Lucky said with concern in his eyes. “Well, all the male cats already have mates”, she said sighing, “and all the dogs hate me”. “I don’t hate you, I really like you Jinx”, Lucky said bashfully looking down at the ground. “Awwww, thanks Lucky!”, Jinx said as she brushed up against him, purring. Lucky nuzzled her and smiled shyly, “I mean I really like you”. “You mean you wanna’ be mates?”, she said gazing into his eyes. “Well, I mean…”, Lucky said blushing; this was not going like he planned. “Oh, Lucky of course I’ll be your mate!”, Jinx said giving him a lick on the nose. “Really? Th…Thanks!”, Luck said in complete bafflement. He thought the idea of them being of different species would be and issue. “You’re sure you don’t mind dating a dog?”, he said awkwardly. “Not a dog like you, you’ve always been nice to me”, Jinx said smiling up at him. Lucky smiled back, and the walked together, side by side. As they were walking, Lucky felt like he was on cloud nine, but that didn’t last long. Besides Jinx, there was only one girl in Nome that liked him, and her name, was Envy. She was a red and white husky, who was very promiscuous and seductive. She flirted with every dog in Nome and when she met Lucky, she found a challenge. He was the only male dog she had ever met that didn’t want to be her mate. Needless to say, she was pretty jealous when she saw Lucky and Jinx together. So she walked up to the couple and started to flirt with Lucky immediately. “Hi, Lucky”, she said licking his muzzle, “you’re especially handsome today”. “Excuse me”, Jinx interrupted, “but Lucky and I are mates. He’s mine”. “Yeah”, Lucky said defensively. Envy then started to play innocent. “Oh, that’s too bad. I was hoping you would ask me to the Doggy Dance tomorrow”. “Sorry Envy, we’ve gotta’ go”, Lucky said walking away with Jinx. “Oh, you just wait Lucky”, Envy whispered to herself, “if I can’t have you, nobody can”. As they were walking away, Jinx thought about what Envy said. “Lucky, what’s the Doggy Dance?”, she said casually. “Oh, nothing really. It’s just a party all the dogs of Nome go to every year”. “So you’re not going?”, she said pressing further. Lucky stopped and smiled at her saying, “do you want to?”. “Yeah, I think it would be fun!”, Jinx said smiling back. “Okay then. Jinx…will you go to the Doggy Dance with me?”. “Of course”, she said putting her paw on his. Little did they know that a plan was being set for them at the party. Envy was using her body to get what she wanted, revenge. While Lucky and Jinx were away, Envy manipulated all the dogs in Nome. She seduced them into doing a terrible thing, killing Jinx. The plan was to wait till the Doggy Dance tomorrow night, and have all the male dogs attack Jinx. She wasn’t afraid to do it in the open because Jinx didn’t have an owner. She was a stray. This meant that if a dog were to kill her there would be no angry humans to worry about. The plan was perfect, and Envy couldn’t wait to put it into action. That night… Lucky and Jinx were walking to the party, which was being held in the boiler room. Lucky was wearing a purple bandana and Jinx was wearing a golden tail ring. As they walked down the street together, Lucky felt an ominous mood in the town. As if something was going to happen, something unpleasant. Lucky began to feel uneasy and started to walk faster. They were almost to the boiler room when six dogs materialized out of the darkness and growled viciously at Jinx. Jinx hissed and arched her back, he hair standing on end. One of the dogs leapt at her, but Lucky pushed him back with his shoulder. The dog retaliated and bit down on Lucky’s shoulder, hard, blood spouting from the gash like water from a fountain. Lucky yelped in pain and tried to shake the dog off, but he couldn’t. Soon another dog leapt at Jinx and pushed her down, growling in her face. Still with the dog latched on to his shoulder, Lucky crawled towards her. Soon, one by one, the remaining four dogs leapt at Lucky’s back, slowing his progress. Each dog was viciously tearing his body apart, mostly his back. They ripped vehemently through the fur, cruelly tearing away at his bear flesh. He slowly came to a stop, the loss of blood and the weight of the dogs weakening him. Then, he saw it. At first he couldn’t get a good look at the second dog who tried to attack Jinx. But now the dog turned around still pinning Jinx down and smiled at him. It was Envy! “Well, well, well”, Envy said as she pressed down harder on Jinx. “You…”, Lucky snarled, pure hatred in his eyes. “I bet you wish now that you had asked me to the Dance don’t you?”, she said letting out an evil cackle. “If you touch her…”, Lucky began bitterly. “You’ll do what?”, Envy said interrupting him, “your in no position to give threats”. “Look, just let Jinx go, please”, Lucky said trying to hide his anger. “No, I don’t think I will”, Envy said with a smirk, “try to dance with her now”. And with those words still echoing in Lucky’s ears she snapped Jinx’s neck, killing her instantly. Put when she broke her neck another crack was heard. It was the shattering of Lucky’s heart. Jinx was the only girl he had ever loved. When he saw her die like that, his spirit was broken. But as his broken soul died, it was replaced with rage. He snarled and threw all five of the dogs off, running straight for Envy. With one swift movement he bit into her throat, severing the jugular vein. He smiled grimily as her warm, bitter blood ran down his throat. Then they started to dance. Still holding on the her throat, Lucky spun around and around in a waltz of death. When the dance ended, he gracefully laid her gently on the ground; dead. She got what she asked for, a dance to remember. And all the other dogs gazed in horror at the red snow that surrounded her body. They fled in a panic, but they weren’t followed. For Lucky was tired of chasing life, it had no meaning for him any more. So the empty shell that once was Lucky curled up beside the ever silent Jinx, and fell asleep, never to wake again.
The End
