Despite the long years that had passed since her parents never returned from the fields, Applejack still grieved like it had happened yesterday.
A combination of misery over missing them and the stress of running the huge farm alone with her brother and grandmother caused her to miss out on sleep. She would sit for hours, long after her little sister had fallen to sleep, staring up at the sky and hoping for a sign, anything, from her parents that she was doing the right thing.
Applejack envied her sister's ability to act like everything was fine, and she missed the days she was a filly herself, but despite her loneliness and boredom, she would never disturb the sleep her sister achieved.
She knew how much it meant.
