Name: Elixir Vitae
Race: Unicorn
Gender: Female
Profession: Doctor (student)
Appearance: She has a lilac coat and a wavy, medium-length mane and tale with a few ringlets, made up of a darker purple, light blue, and white. Her cutie mark is the Asklepion, the mark of the Greek god of medicine Asclepius, which is made up of a staff with a snake curling around it. It not only shows her conviction to helping others and healing them, but also her dedication to facts and the search for diagnoses/answers, which are very important ideas to her. She is of average height and semi-lean of build, but not obviously athletic. Her eyes are silvery-gray - a strange color for unicorns, but a trait that runs in her family. She tends to have a stethoscope slung around her neck and will wear a white lab coat when she is practicing.
Background: Elixir was born into a lower income family in Baltimare. During her early life, she was an only foal, which led to her being a tiny bit spoiled. She loved to practice magic, but kept it largely to herself. This all changed when her little sister Melody Lyric entered the scene. Elixir was terribly jealous that all her parents’ attention suddenly went to this squalling little filly, and at first her heart was filled with resentment, especially as Melody got older and seemed to be interested in all of Elixir’s favorite things! At first, Elixir drew inward and refused to get to know her or rebuild her relationship with her parents. Gradually though, the two started getting along a little, even though the relationship was strained.
One day, they were both playing and Melody suddenly collapsed. Elixir hadn’t realized how sick the little filly had been getting, having already not been feeling wonderful before they went outside in the heat. The purple filly was terrified as they wheeled Melody to the hospital and she was chastised by her parents. Elixir’s heart broke, and she stayed by her sister’s side day and night. She watched the hospital staff, and secretly mimicked their actions when they weren’t around to help her sister themselves, and payed special attention to the reasons behind their actions and what they said in regards to her diagnosis.
She noticed one night that Melody’s temperature had started rising, and used ice packs to try and bring it down. When this only helped a little, she turned to magic. With little else to go on but hope, she let loose the magic and willed her sister to get better. Suddenly, her fever started to disappear. A nurse, having rushed in upon noticing the change, saw her in the act and reported her to one of the doctors. They chastised her lightly for taking matters into her own hands, but marveled that she had been able to perform a healing spell without prior knowledge, and at her more mundane “treatments”. They agreed not to punish her, so long as she told her parents what she had done, and then gave her a recommendation to attend Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns, in the medical program, which would further advance her knowledge of healing magic and mundane treatments. They agreed to give her a scholarship, and she was so happy, she hardly noticed her cutie mark appearing.
Despite being farther away later, her relationship with Melody improved quite a bit. Elixir met new friends that she did, and didn’t, keep and had a fairly normal school life. At first she was teased, until the pony who would become her best friend, Heart Song, took up for her. Other events will be extrapolated upon during the narrative.
Personality: Overall, Elixir is fairly level-headed. She has a tendency to be quiet and introspective, but she is also quite friendly. She enjoys reading and being near friends when she has free time available. When she is irritated, her first instinct is to head straight for the sarcasm. Elixir has little trouble making friends initially, but she doesn’t allow them to get close to her nearly as quickly, and tends to keep some of her personal life bottled up inside. This can lead some ponies to think that she’s standoffish, but in reality she fears being betrayed by some pony she trusts.
Strengths: Compassionate, easy-going, helpful, determined, self-motivated, open-minded, imaginative
Weaknesses: Can be naive, idealistic, mistrustful, stubborn, carries the weight of others’ woes, perfectionist, somewhat overly protective
