Hoofbeard is a pirate pony, captain of the sea salty mare ship, who appears in the 5th story arc of the IDW comics. He first appears when the mane 6 and Spike are on vacation to Horseshoe bay, when he doesn't state his name until later on. At the end of the comics, he is granted fish fins and gills by Twilight with her magic.

Hoofbeard has many accsessories: He has a small ring in his right ear, a black eye patch over his right eye, a gold tooth, a blue hair band in his hair holding together a plait, several golden necklaces, a wooden leg and a braided tail. He is also seen with a sword in his mouth.

His cutie mark is a skull and crossbone.
