However, Mufasa was to strong, and Mufasa left Mabaya with many injuries, including a torn ear and many scars. His older brother took care of him until he was an adult, when Mabaya was able to help hunt. The two brothers one day came across Kovu. Kovu attacked Mabaya's brother and killed him. Mabaya was furious and tried to attack Kovu, but Kovu, being much stonger than the weaker lion, left Mabaya with his ear torn deeper, and Kovu would have killed him if he hadn't of gotten away. He came across Sarabi and flirted with her. Sarabi didn't know about Mufasa coming across him a long time ago, and Mabaya didn't know Sarabi was Mufasa's former mate. After Mabaya got Sarabi expecting cubs, they saw each other a lot. One day, when the cubs were born, Simba found out and attacked Mabaya. Mabaya knew that Simba was the son of Mufasa and now he knew that Sarabi was Mufasa's former mate and Simba's mother. Mabaya was furious but still loved Sarabi very much, and Sarabi loved Mabaya but didn't want to be with him because he was evil. Mabaya left the pridelands heartbroken promising revenge on Simba.
