Last Breath

Mheetu watched in horror as one of the hyenas whacked Sarafina on her mouth. He looked to see another hyena leap on her and sink his teeth into her neck. Just then, Simba appeared and drove the hyenas away. Mheetu jumped off the rock he was standing on and ran to his mother. Sarafina was lying on the ground, heaving for breath. A trickle of blood ran from her mouth. Mheetu nudged his mother and she opened her eyes. "Mheetu," she whispered. "tell your dad I love him." Giving him a lick, she lay her head down and closed her eyes. Mheetu couldn't get himself to roar or cry. Nala and Uzuri spotted him. Nala hugged her sister and cried into her fur. Uzuri herself was shedding tears. Then, something hit her. What were they going to tell their father?

Something that had been on my mind for a long time. I've been wanting to render this for a long time. Its kinda sad, I know. But I spent a lot of time on this.
