Nala sat on pride rock, watching Simba run off into the savannah. The king had been busy - reports of hyenas and rogues had increased, especially reports of the coalition of males - ''the boys'', as they called one another.
They'd already gotten three lionesses pregnant. Nala seethed. They'd even been hunting! Nala had been there! They had no clue the lions were there - she sent the three to escort the lion off, and two months later, it was clear what had happened. She shook her head.
Simba had been so busy lately. In fact, he'd told Nala he couldn't be more greatful to have Kovu there - the younger male was growing fast and, in fact, was left at pride rock to watch over his mate and the lionesses.
So young. So lively. And Kiara wasn't around too much recently, as she and four other lionesses were sent on a diplomatic mission to the mountains. Surely he was restless?
Things couldn't have been better. Nala herself had been restless. She was a master huntress, but there was no need for her to hunt.
Well, not for meat, that was.
She approached Kovu and asked him out on a walk with her to check the lesser-used part of the territory for intruders. It just so happened that the quickest way out of sight of others was the path behind pride rock, to the north... The opposite direction of Simba and Kiara.
-------
''So, I have to ask again... Why exactly do we need to check this area? No one comes here or uses it.'' Kovu remarked, seeming unenthused. Nala glanced back, seeing that in this rocky territory, she was well out of reach of all senses. She didn't respond until she led Kovu to a rocky alcove, under an overhang that further hid them, sure to place herself between Kovu and the way out.
She had her prey cornered.
She suddenly leaped up, pinning Kovu upright against the wall, smiling. ''Kovu, I think you know why I chose a secluded area, where no one ever comes,'' she told him. He looked startled, even bewildered for a minute before what she said sank in. ''Simba's never around anymore. That coalition is clearly here to stay. I miss a relationship, Kovu, and I think you do too. Surely, being surrounded by lionesses, all alone, day-in, day-out, you miss Kiara. But she's not around. and neither is Simba...''
''Um, I think...'' Kovu shifted uncomfortably, but Nala kept him firmly planted against the wall. A light slowly began glowing in his eyes. Nala smiled and lowered her eyelids.
Her kill was made.

I just now finished this render I'd worked on over Christmas break, and I'm pretty darn proud of it's turn-out, honestly. =P
