The thumping of pawsteps drew Nephelhein's attention to the cave entrance. There, his sister Auni stood, a look of betrayel on her face. "I knew it." She muttered. "I knew you were going to leave me. How could you? How dare you? We swore Nephelhein! We swore we would never abandon each other! Always and forever, remember that?" Nephelhein sighed, his heart breaking ever so slightly by what he was going to do. "Words only mean so much, Auni."
"Please just stay..." Came the quiet response, and tears welled in his sister's brown eyes. "If not for them then for me, just stay. Just a little while. Just until I'm old enough that Graesin and Khan will agree to let me go." "No." He responded, and for a moment they both stood there motionless, until Auni's face shifted to one of anger. "One day," she began, padding closer to him. "One day, when you're sick, or dying, you'll think back to this moment, and you're going to realize a little too late that you should have never left me alone." With that, the dusty lioness made her way back inside. Nephelhein stood there for a moment, half contemplating whether he should call her back and take her away.
"She'll hate you forever you know." Came the voice of his second oldest brother, Graesin. Nephelhein turned around to face the lion, who had been watching from farther away. "Still," Graesin shrugged, "a deal is a deal, brother. So long as Auni doesn't leave with you, you are free to go wherever you see fit."
"Are you sure of that? Khan-" "Khan's already agreed." Graesin inturrupted. "You have our blessing, brother. So long as you leave our sister out of it."
Nephelhein nodded, then made his way out. He was finally free of this pride.
