So, I've been wanting to use this song for a while, and recently felt like it described Rena and Kamau's relationship perfectly. I figured that with them both being in love together, leaving wasn't such an easy choice for Kamau. He'd constantly be thinking of her and would struggle with the desire to return. Rena, on the other hand, being the pawn that she is, would have resigned herself to the fact that being with Kamau wasn't a good choice for her, but she'd still be unable to move on. She would see him everywhere and be constantly thinking of him.
In other words, when Kamau left, he left behind his shadow.
