Midnight Awakening
Kovu's nice long dreamless sleep was interrupted by a hurried voice.
''Dad! Dad! Wake up!''
Kovu woke with a start and gazed sleepily at the young cub looking at him. ''Hasani? What in Mohatu's name...?''
''Dad, look! I got my mane!'' sure enough, there was a tiny wisp of brown hair poking out from the young cub's head.
Kovu yawned. ''That's nice, son. Now why don't you go to sleep?'' He laid his head down to sleep again, but was awakened once again.
''But I CAN'T sleep!'' Hasani continued. ''I'm so excited. I wanna show Grandpa Simba and Grandma Nala at once.''
''Don't!'' Kovu said, stern enough to get the message through yet quiet enough not to wake the others. ''They're already tired out. Don't wake them now. Show them in the morning, okay?''
''Why isn't it morning already?'' the bouncing cub asked.
'Kovu half-chuckled. ''Because it's the middle of the night, silly.'' he said, trying to keep his eyes from dropping.
''Dad, does my mane mean that I'm gonna be a big, strong lion?'' Hasani asked, clambering onto his father's back.
''Hm, yes.'' Kovu only half-registered what his son was saying.
''So, when my siblings are born, can I protect them?'' Hasani innocently asked.
Kovu looked over at Kiara, sleeping peacefully beside him. His gaze shifted over to her swollen belly.
''Yes, Hasani.'' he smiled. ''You will, one day.'' Then he yawned. ''But right now it's time to sleep.''
Hasani shook his head. ''No, I wanna play!''
''Play?!''

Hey guys. This is something I've been working on. It was more or less a small experiment with shading and mixing screenshots together. The story was just an added bonus that I got. The original picture was of Kovu, Hasani and Kiara playing, but then I decided to make it that Hasani wakes Kovu up in the middle of the night.
I did my best to age Kovu as well as Kiara up here a bit. Surprising how much a simple tuft of fur near his shoulders makes him look older. Technically speaking, since Kovu and Kiara had Hasani when they were very young (Simba gave up his throne about two years after SP and Kiara had Hasani within a few months of that), now they must be closer to Simba's age in TLK. But this is just me. I'm not very familiar with lion ages and stuff.
Kiara's belly is so big because she's pregnant with Yuna and Giza ^^
Still, this picture has me chuckling all the time. Hope you guys like it too
