Taka sighed, flopping down as his brothers mantlement ceremony was acted. He knew, like the rest of the pride, that Sarabi would be chosen as queen. Torn between both brothers, she had taken him aside two days ago and told him that she was to choose Muffy. Frightened of King Ahadi, she explained that she had been told by the king that she would face his wrath if she didn't accept the queen invite. Taka had nodded, then, after she left cried the rest of the day and far into the night. He growled to himself. Reliving the past wouldn't help. So, ignoring the ache in his heart, he raced to become a part of the ceremony as his brother had asked. Making up a quick excuse in his head, he plaed one paw to his chest and continued his quick approach. "Brother, what has happened?" Mufasa cried as his twin came up limping. Taka smiled. "Oh, I stepped in a hole. No biggie." "You should have stayed in your cave!" "Muf, I wouldn't miss this for the world." After the ceremony, Taka wondered back to his cave. Despite his lost love, he had meant what he had said.
Four months later, Mufasa came around. "Hey baby brother! I haven't seen you since my mantlement. Is everything okay?" "Hmmph, sure i guess." Mufasa's eyes were concerned as he bent down to where his sibling lay. "Talk to me, Taka. Please. What is the matter?" "HOW DARE YOU ASK ME THAT! Sarabi! you stole her from me!"
Mufasa looked horrified. "You still love her? I thought, when you didn't ask her..." "I still love her! I just didn't know how to tell her!"
Mufasa bit his lip. His beautiful new bride had certainly acted upon her vows of marriage, but then again, his father was powerful, one to be feared. And Mufasa did actually remember his sire calling Sarabi aside and talking to her before his mantlement. His love for his brother and the horrid thing he seemed to have done to his sensitive brother gave him one choice.
"Taka, I am giving you a chance to mate with Sarabi. If she gives you a child, you must take the cub and raise it alone as soon as it is weaned." "But she has made her vows to you! I will be killed if I do that!" Taka protested, for though his love was strong, he knew the law better than Mufasa, for he had loved the teachings and payed more attention. "I am the king! I am giving you permission to do this." "And what about Fatzar? Ahadi will have my tail!" "He has no power anymore. And I can't believe you would use the olden language to simply say 'father'!" Taka snorted. "I love the olden language. If i were king we would go back to it." Mufasa shook his head with an amused smile. "Very well, brota, come with me. And, i will deal with Fatzar." So the brothers walked together into pride rock, and into a new adventure.
3 1/2 months later
"Taka!Brota! The child comes!" Mufasa gasped, racing to his brother. Taka jumped up from his nap and hustled to the cave. Sadfi, the old midwife, smiled. "Taka, you have a son. And a daughter. She awaits." Mufasa held back, willing to let his brother in alone, but Taka didn't move. Then, that oh-so-familiar smile took place on the dark lion. "After you, Mufasa. My king and my brother." As the two lions walked in, Sarabi smiled. Tilting her paws to reveal two tiny cubs. A look of pure astonishment came over Taka's face. "They are so beautiful... just like you." She gave a dazzeling smile. "And you." Suddenly the son yawned, and turning, opened his eyes. Bright orange. The rest of him was entirely his father. Taka smiled. "What are their names?" "Well, i thought that the name 'Tam' suited the girl. You can name the boy." Taka sat down, concentrating hard. "Hmm... Kafele. Yes! That should be his name. For of all children i may recieve, he will be the one i will not hesitate to give my life for!." "Whoa, slow down, brota! I hope that day never comes." Taka smiled. "Kafele and Tam. The lights of my life."
A small noise startled all lions into turning as Rafiki came into the den. Smiling at an astonished Taka, Mufasa went outside and roared loudly. The nearest animals hurried, knowing they were responsible to carry the message of a presentation. Early the next morning, As animals gathered around the rock, Taka greeted all, his brother by his side. "The time to love is now!"
