Jana stood beside Nia, feeling extremely excited at this. Today was the day her sister Dama would be crowned the rightful heir to the throne.
Her mother always said it was a 'family' tradition that the whole pride gathered to the crowning. Jana often wondered whether it was from her great-grandmother Nala's side or great-grandfather Scar's side of the family. She put it down to Nala, as Scar was too rough for this.
These very thoughts were going through the young lioness's mind just as the old baboon shaman Rafiki came up. He had agreed to come to their pride for this special occasion, as for him, ''Every occasion is an occasion to celebrate.''
Jana looked around and saw her father give a sigh at the head of the assembled lionesses. Jana knew this was the right tradition, as they had done the same on her first hunt; the hunt that finally qualified her as a huntress.
As she thought about his proud look after her hunt, she felt a nudge against her shoulder. She looked at Nia who told her that Dama was coming. Jana looked back to see her sister approach nervously and couldn't help but feel a rush of pride.
Rafiki showed her the way to her parents, where it would be announced that she would take over once Michezo was too old to rule. Marveling at the way her sister seemed to walk, Jana knew that her father had chosen the right daughter to succeed him.
''Dama, you'll be the light of our land.''
