The Fight
Kovu snarled as he paced back and forth in front of the large cut in Pride Rock that made up the pride's den. He couldn't believe what he'd just witnessed; his son was in love with another male? HIS son? The male let out a roar as his mate stepped out of the shadowed rock, a look of worry clear on her lovely face.
''Kovu, what's wrong?'' Her tone mimicked her expression.
''What's wrong?'' he snarled as he whipped around to face her, ''What's wrong? My son is off getting hiched with that damned dog!'' He turned away from her, a growl rumbling deep in his throat. ''That's what's wrong.''
Kiara's expression turned from worry to relief for a moment before she put on a stoney mask. ''Kovu, I doubt it's as bad as your making it out to be.'' She stepped toward him and pushed her nose into his mane, hoping the moment would calm him. ''And besides, so what if Hasa loves him, I think they make a cute couple. Not only that, but please remember it was that 'dog' who brought Hasa back out of the shell he'd put himself in.''
Her hope shattered as he rounded on her a snarl curling his lip back to reveal his ivory teeth. ''I don't give a damn what that dog did for him! No son of mine with love another male, dog or not!'' Kiara felt anger rise in her and she flatted her ears against her skull as a snarl of her own ripped passed her lips.
''Well then it's all well and good then, because he is not your son!'' A look of surprise spred across both lions' faces. Kiara couldn't believe what she'd just done, she remained stoney as Kovu stalked toward her, his expression holding nothing but pure hatred.
''What did you say?'' he snarled as his claws flexed against the hard stone of the rock beneath them.
''I said,'' Kiara started, her tone not giving away any of the emotions that were running wild through her, ''he is not your son.'' Kovu let out another roar, but turned sharply away from her, Kiara saw this as her chance and she retreated quickly back into the den, she knew he wouldn't dare try to do anything while the rest of the pride were around.
