A Walk
The dark red-eyed young lion stared up at the large lion beside him. This medium colored gray lion, the father of the lioness he loved, a Prince by marriage, had wanted to talk to him. He would've expected his love's uncle, the King - the lion in charge of everything - but not him, not Prince Rasul. Yet here he was, here they were, walking through the peaceful grasses of the Pridelands, the first place he had felt truly at home after years of wandering, trying to find his place.
They stopped for a moment and Dakarai stared up at him, mouth open, wondering if Sadira's father had brought him out here for something other than a talk. After all, didn't he deserve something else? He had left, practically abandoned Prince Rasul's first child, his first daughter.
The gray male looked down at him, his dark blue eyes stern but gentle.
"Dakarai, you made a mistake by leaving, but you have redeemed yourself by returning."
He swallowed, but managed a feeble nod. He couldn't speak.
"Sadira loves you and neither myself or her mother would wish to stand in the way of her happiness."
Rasul waited for the younger lion to say something, but he couldn't.
Rasul smiled gently at him, much like a father would to his son. Did Rasul see this lion, this rogue, as a son?
"Take care of my daughter. She, her siblings and their mother are important to me I would hate to see any of them hurt."
Without waiting for a reply he walked on, leaving the young lion with a gaping mouth and a pounding heart.
