Nala led Kobee awkwardly toward Pride Rock, the silence became somewhat deafening as all that could be heard was the crunching of gravel under their paws. Kobee was uncomfortable, he regretted returning to his birth pride the minute he saw the uneasiness in his mother’s eyes. Suddenly they were greeted by Simba, the large lion towered over his queen but Kobee didn’t cower. Nala whispered something into Simba’s ear but Kobee couldn’t quite make out what she had said, what followed was a hushed discussion through gritted teeth. After a few moments Kobee decided it was obvious he was unwelcome, he turned to leave but Nala stopped him. Her eyes were full of sympathy and she swallowed hard.
“You may stay with us,” She stuttered at first but it was evident she was trying to sound confident.
“No, if it’s too much trouble I can leave.” Kobee offered, he could feel Simba’s eyes burning into his and he shifted his weight from one paw to the other.
“It’s not too much trouble Kobee, please, stay with us.” Nala’s tone quickly became forceful and she glared up at Simba. “He’s welcome, right Simba?”
Simba swallowed hard, his eyes rolled into the back of his head and Kobee heard a low growl escape his parted lips. He pressed his teeth together, and then met eyes with Kobee’s.
“Welcome… to the family… Kobee…” He forced the words from his tongue and they fell heavily from his mouth, the insincerity was apparent. Kobee nodded slowly and then padded away, removing himself from the situation.
