Separate Ways
From the moment they started their escape, things hadn't gone according to plan; in their eagerness to flee the hyenas in the swamp, somehow they had lost track of Chumvi. After waiting for him for two days, Tama and Kula made the tough decision of moving on without him, too afraid the hyenas would track them down before they got far.
For the next three days they traveled, moving as fast as they could with the cubs in tow, but travel was never easy. Without their usual numbers, large prey was hard to find, and so the teens and cubs dined on small rodents and even carrion left to rot in the sun. Though they were dirty, exhausted, and hungry, they kept pushing; the sooner they reached the Eastlands Pride, the sooner their families would be safe from the clutches of Scar and his hyenas.
As the sun set on their third day, they finally came to the edges of the desert, where grass and dirt turned to sand and stone. This would be the final great passage to the jungle, and according to their memory, would take two days to cross.
Kula was eager to get going, as the desert wasn't so hot at night, but Tama had a change of heart last minute; after all their hard travels and their failure to find Chumvi, her heart was weary, and she feared crossing the desert would be a final death sentence for the group. The two old friends argued over it, Tama favoring a trip to Malka's Pride, but Kula wasn't so ready to turn back and forfeit their initial plan. In a fit of anger Tama stormed off, leaving Kula and the cubs to cross the desert themselves. It would be many seasons before Kula saw her old friend again.

Part of Huria and Sukari's new stories that was actually really fun to RP and illustrate. I experimented a bit with this image in terms of lighting and adding dirt effects, and I think it turned out really well ^^ Hope you guys enjoy!
