"Oh yeah?" Taka snapped, whipping his head around to look at his mother for the first time. "Well, I didn't think he would either, but he did. Look."

He extended his foreleg, and Uru saw with amazement that there were three parallel scabs where someone had raked his claws down Taka's hide. Her eyes widened. It couldn't be true, but here was proof...

"You favor him," Taka spat suddenly. "I knew already Dad does, and apparently you do, too. I knew it."

"Wait, Taka..."

"You should pay more attention to your sons!" he shouted. "You don't care about me! It's always Muffy this, Muffy that!" He trailed off, eyes glistening with tears, and without warning shoved past his other and disappeared down the trail.

Poor Uru spent the entire day moping in guilt. She hadn't really thought about it before, but it was painfully clear now: she favored Mufasa. Almost everyone preferred the big bouncy cub to the little sulky one. But was that Taka's fault?

They didn't talk for the rest of the day, and for the next few days after that. But from that fateful conversation on, though Taka didn't know it, Uru swore that she would be there for her younger son, whenever he needed her.
