Kopa awoke one morning to the sound of his father, Simba, waking him up with a mighty roar he also used to wake the other lions in the pride. Kopa quickly got up from his rock-bed and ran out to Pride Rock. He was very eager because he got to know what the Circle of Life was. He had heard the other lions talking about it, but never actually knew what it was.
“Let’s go, Kopa.” Simba shouted for his son as he ran towards the tip of the rock. “Look out there. What do you see?” Simba asked smiling down at his son.
Kopa looked confused at Simba. He thought for a moment and then said, “Oh! Heh, I see an antelope herd, some of our lionesses walking out to hunt for the morning, and some shadowy place.”
“Yes. You’re correct.” Simba said looking out to his lands. “You see, everything lives. One day, those things will die. Watch the lionesses. Did you just see how Nala killed the antelope? We eat the antelope. When we lions die, we turn into the grass, and the antelope eat the grass. We are all balanced in the Circle of Life. And you know all of the stars in the sky? They are the great kings of the past. My father is up there, and I will be there, too.” Kopa sat there, still confused.
“Dad,” Kopa began. “What is that shadowy place down there?”
“That is where the outlanders live. You cannot go there. Do you understand?” Simba said unkindly.
“But why not?” Kopa asked.
“Just don’t, okay?” Simba yelled at his son. He jumped off of the rock side to check out the Pride Lands.
Kopa sat there, looking out to the Outlands. “Pfft. I can do what I want. He’s not my boss.” Kopa chuckled as he ran off of Pride Rock toward the Outlands.
Meanwhile a cub named Nuka was with his mother. “Now, Nuka,”His mother, Zira, began. “Scar is gone. It’s all because of Simba. He killed your father. He would have wanted you to kill him for revenge!”
“Mom!” Nuka whined. “I don’t want to kill him. We could barely live with Scar as king!” Zira growled. She was worthy to Scar, the rightful king.
“Don’t ever say that!” She shouted at her son. Nuka backed away. “He was YOUR father! You must take his place!”
“Can’t I do something else?” Nuka still whined on. He was a wimpy lion cub who never wanted to do anything. Zira rolled her eyes and sighed.
“Fine. You can do something else.” Zira thought for a while when she heard a thump come from behind her. She turned around and saw Kopa. “Hello there. Who are you?” She said all nicely.
“I-I’m Kopa.” He stammered. “Son of Simba and Nala.” Zira’s eyes lit up.
“Nuka! She shouted. “Come here.” Nuka walked over slowly to her. “Do you know what we can do?” Zira whispered into Nuka’s ear. Nuka sat there clueless. “Ugh. We can kill Kopa!” Nuka gasped.
“Fine. I’ll do it.” He frowned not wanting his mother to yell at him again.
Zira turned to Kopa. “You need to get home.” She smiled politely. Kopa nodded his head and turned and ran towards Pride Rock. “Our plan will be in motion tonight.” Zira said as she walked into her cave.
Kopa returned home. Simba and Nala were there. “KOPA!” Simba shouted. “What did I tell you?”
“You said to not go to the Outlands.” He cried.
“Don’t do that ever again!” Nala scolded him. Nala saw he was crying. “Just go to bed.” She said, walking away. Kopa immediately fell asleep.
Later that night, Nuka arrived. “Kopa,” He whispered from a hole in the cave wall. Kopa raised his head sleepily. “Come here.” Nuka whispered. Kopa got up and walked out of the cave. “Goodbye.” Nuka whispered. Out of nowhere, Kopa got attacked by Zira who was hiding.
Simba woke up later that night. He looked next to him where Kopa was supposed to be sleeping. Kopa was gone. “Nala,” He screamed. “Kopa’s gone!” They got up and walked out the den only to find Kopa lying there. “This is not funny, Kopa!” Nala said.
“Nala, he’s not faking.” Simba sobbed. He kicked his body off of Pride rock and buried it below. The sad parents walked back into the cave, crying with eachother.
