The Last White Lion

Lost and Found

CHAPTER 1 Avance and Kit

The sun was rising over the golden savanna grass. The tall trees swayed in the cool wind. The sky was multiple colors molded together as the sun rose over the horizon. A large sandy colored lion stood with his front paws on a rock as he looked at the herd gazelle prance and jump over the tall grass. To him all the rest of the lions were asleep but his son wasn’t all the other lions. Kit was a playful white lion cub who was stalking his father.

“Yes Kit?” Avance, his father asked still watching the gazelle. Kit perked his head and ran up to his father.

“How did you know I was there?” He asked while looking up at his father.

“One knows.” Avance said finally looking at his son with a smirk on his face and thick mane blowing in the wind. Kit looked confused. “You’ll understand when you have children of your own my son.” Avance sighed and began to walk away. Kit followed.

“Dad what did mom look like?” He asked. Avance sighed and stopped in his tracks and looked at Kit. He had never noticed how Kit was so white and how his yellow eyes shimmered.

“Well she was…beautiful and graceful she had yellow eyes like yours and she was a sandy gold color.” He said “I’m starting to wonder were your white coat came from.” Kit laughed “go on home son” Avance said and pointed his head towards his pride around the den them of them were now awake. Kit didn’t obey he just stood beside his father. Avance turned around just in time to see two wild dogs pounce at him and Kit, the wild dogs were small and scrawny they were defiantly not a high rank in the pack. They caught Avance off guard and took a small chunk out off his shoulder and whimpered as Avance threw him off. Avance stood over his son who hid behind his father’s front leg.

“What do you want?!” He demanded; dark blood rolled down his shoulder and ribcage.

CHAPTER 2 the Dare

The wild dogs just sat there, Avance was right in front of them he could easily kill them now. Avance began to look them in the eyes their eyes were so mischievous…so angry, and cold. Avance noticed that the male wild dog was a bit jumpy and staring at Avance’s blood which formed a puddle by Kit; and the female watched Kit as if she was going to walk up and say “hi”. Finally the female wild dog said coyly.

“We’ll just take something we need and be off.” She walked over to Kit and looked like she was going to walk passed him but instead she called the male dog over and he followed her lead. They both walked a few inches and snatched Kit by his scruff out from under Avance; it was so quick that even though Avance was watching they still got him! Kit cried out and struggled. Avance pounced on the two wild dogs and grabbed his son. His two front paws were on the wild dogs the female got free but the males back was broken from being pounced on. Avance studied the lifeless body it was bent back and the spine was popping out of its back. Avance put his son down and began to walk towards the pride; he could see that parts of Kit’s fur were now pinkish, reddish. When they got to the pride Avance walked into the huge den and Kit bathed in a clean puddle of water. Everyone wondered what happened but Avance didn’t answer he didn’t want everyone to worry even though they were a pretty strong pride. Kit rolled and splashed in the water making his fur white again, he didn’t have a mother to groom him anymore

“Hey look it’s the marshmallow.” Kit heard a voice call. He quit bathing himself and looked around it was another lion cub from his pride, this cub always made fun of poor Kit. This cub was like the leader of the other three cubs in the pride even though he wasn’t blood royalty like Kit was. Kit walked out of the puddle he was one of few lions that liked water.

“Quit it Jack!” Kit demanded Jack and the other three. The three lions the hung around Jack were two girls and another boy. One of the girls that hung around him was one of the most beautiful lion Kit had ever seen. Her coat was smooth and sandy colored, she was graceful, her voice was warm and she had gorgeous blue eyes that shimmered in the suns light and her name was Nali. Kit always tried to impress Nali but it never seemed to work. “What’s the matter Kitty?” Jack joked his friends laughed as well except Nali. Jack was not much different from Kit except Jack was dark brown and mean.

“My name is Kit.” He said angrily. Jack stopped laughing.

“Right. Well KIT it doesn’t matter because you’re week like a Kitty.” Jack said

“I am not!” Kit said.

“Ok well prove it by going to a camp.” Jack said

“A camp?”

“Yes a camp a person’s camp.”

“Oh….well...I...Uh.” Kit searched for words.

“I understand if you scared.” Jack said while turning his head to his friends. Nali looked worried for Kit. Kit lowered his head moved his eyes right to left one then perked his head and said.

“No I’m not afraid!” a smile crossed Jack’s face.

“Ok then meet me here when the sun sets.” He said and walked away and the others except Venatie followed. Nali walked up to Kit.

“Are you sure you want to go through with this?” she asked.

“Yes.” Kit replied

“Well these are not regular people Kit their poachers.” Nali said. To Kit she looked worried.

“Don’t worry.” He said

“Kit you don’t have the camouflage to blend with the grass your to white they’ll see you.” She said just then a voice called her name.

“Nali!” it called

“Coming mother!” she replied and began to walk away then looked back and said “I hope you know what your doing.” And ran away.

CHAPTER 3 Chase and Run

It was now sunset and kit had to sneak passed the pride to get to Jack and the others. When he got there it was a dirt spot surrounded by tall grass.

“It’s about time.” Jack said

“Well sorry.” Kit said angrily “So were is this camp?”

“Way down there.” The other male said

“Ok not that far I can make it.” Kit said looking out at a stream of smoke rising into the sky, and began walking into the grass but was stopped by Nali.

“Be careful.” She said

“I will.” Kit said and started off to the camp.

2 hours later

Kit had gotten to the camp there was a small blaze for a fire and the people were asleep. Kit walked around looking in the cages most of the animals were dead others scared and cold. He came to an animal that looked familiar. It was the female African wild dog she came to the cage door.

“Hey kid I know you.” She whispered Kit didn’t reply he was to mad at her. “Please let me out I want to go home. I want to live.” She begged.

“You tried to kill me.” Kit whispered ignoring Kit’s comment the wild dogs said

“Please let me out.”

“How?”

“There is a key.”

“Were?”

“With a poacher.” She said pointing her snout towards the keys in sleeping poacher’s hand.

“Are you crazy?!” Kit asked

“Shhhh please get the key.” Kit walked over and grabbed the keys and ran to the cage and unlocked it. The wild dog got out and yelled

“Look out!” Kit looked behind him and there was a poacher. Kit’s eyes widened and he and the wild dog took off. The poacher grabbed his gun and shot at them hitting Kit’s back leg. Kit fell to the ground and the wild dog stopped.

“Get my dad!” He yelled the wild dog nodded and ran for Kit’s dad. The poacher picked kit up and threw him in a cage.

“Who needs an African wild dog if you have anon albino white lion cub?” the poacher laughed, then threw the cage Kit was in on the back of the truck and woke up his buddies.

“Lets hit the road.” He yelled. Kit lay down, tears rolled down his face.

“Why didn’t I listen?” he asked himself. The truck began to shake rapidly. It began to move. Kit turned away from the cage door and closed his eyes with tears still rolling down his face. He could hear the people talking.

“What are we gonna do with it?” one asked

“Well my daughter did want a fur coat.” The other replied. They both laughed.

“Well we could keep it for a while and make a lot of money.” Kit listened why? Why? Didn’t he listen to Nali?

CHAPTER 4 Avance

“Have you seen my son?” Avance asked almost every lioness in his pride none of them seemed to know. Avance sat down and looked to the sky; just then he heard a rustling sound in the grass. It was the wild dog.

“What do you want?!” Avance demanded. The wild dog’s face looked frightened and breathless.

“I-it’s about your- son.” The wild dog panted

“My son? If you did anything to him you won’t live to see tomorrow!” Avance snarled as he walked up to the wild dog. The wild dog hesitated for a moment.

“Poachers got him” she finally said. Avance’s eyes widened “it wasn’t my fault I swear they shot him and-” the dog pleaded but it was more than enough for Avance to hear.

“What?!” he demanded angrily now getting more in her face.

The dog crouched back and said

“Follow me.” And began to run Avance
