Pride rock

As Simba paced the den, wondering why Pumbaa and Timon left for the jungle, Nala tried everything in her power to reasure him.

"It's okay Simba," she told him gently. "They probably just missed their old home. I'm sure you kind of missed the jungle when you left."

   Simba sighed.

"That's not the point Nala," he said. "They left without saying anything. What kind of friends would do that? Did they think I would force them to stay here?"

A terrible thought suddenly occured to him.

"I think I know where they might be," Simba said. "I have to go!"

"Wait!" Nala called. When Simba turned around, Nala heaved a deep sigh. "I'm going with you," she said. "Your not going to let me miss all the fun again."

Simba smiled for the first time in days.

The Outlands

Zira walked back and forth in her den as it was too hot to be outside. Sunlight was streaming in little cracks that weren't filled, and the day was getting hotter by the minute. Summer was on it's way.

"We've got the prisoners!" A voice called from outside of her den, which sounded a lot like Spotty's.

When Zira stepped out into the sunlight, she spotted Timon and Pumbaa surrounded by a couple of her Outlanders.

"Good." Zira smirked. "Well done, Spotty. I knew I could count on you to get the job done."

The grey lioness with spots under her eyes dipped her head at Zira, and signaled all the lionesses to step away from the prisoners.

"What are you doin' miss?" Pumbaa asked. "We need to get back to Simba, or else he'll be worrin' 'bout us."

Zira smiled warmly at them, but it didn't appear to be a smile to anyone who looked at it.

"That's the whole point," Zira said sweetly. "Guards! Put them where no one will find them."

Simba and Nala

"Where do you suspect they are?" Nala asked Simba as they headed out into the late afternoon sun. "I mean, we think someone took them, so it must have been the Outlanders."

"That's my hunch," Simba replied. "Although I'm hoping it's wrong."

He looked around him. The animals still hadn't come back yet, so the whole Pride was starving. There was some prey around, although not much. The whole Pridelands was still black and grey, and you could smell smoke everywhere you went.

"Do you think they took Timon and Pumbaa to the Outlands, or hid them somwhere else?"

"Um..." Simba looked toward the Outlands. "Let's start there first. We should probably go and round up a couple of lionesses just in case their preparing a battle to protect Timon and Pumbaa."

Nala shook her head in disgust.

"Your Pride is starving Simba," she said gently. "You can't expect them to go into battle so soon after recovery. In fact, I don't think we recovered at all! They need time."

   Simba grunted.

"Time is one thing we don't have," he said. "Now, could you follow my orders without question?"

"Okay, okay," Nala growled, her fur raised. "When did you become so bossy?"

"I'm sorry Nala," Simba said sarcastically. "I shouldn't have snapped just because my friend's lifes are in danger."

Nala shook her head in disbelief.

"What is wrong with you Simba?" she spat. "Be a little more grateful I came with you."

"You know what?" Simba snarled. "I can do this on my own. I don't need an annoying pest to distract me."

Nala bristled, and turned around sharply, her ears drawn back, and her eyes narrowed. Soon, Simba was alone.

Pride rock

When Nala arrived back at pride rock, she saw Simba's mother, Sarabi, bathing on a rock. As soon as Sarabi saw Nala's angry look, she got up at once.

"What's wrong Nala?" Sarabi asked, her eyes full of concern.

"Oh nothing," Nala snapped. "Except that your son is acting like the stupid lion he is."

Sarabi seemed taken aback. She glanced around sharply.

   "Where is he?"

   Nala shrugged.

"Why should I care?" she growled, and stomped off toward her den.

When she got there, she noticed Sarafina was missing. After a couple minutes of sniffing around, she picked up a scent trail, and followed it. But it didn't lead her anywhere good.

"Mom?" Nala cried out, horrified. Lying right in the middle of the moor, was Sarafina's bloody form.

The Outlands

Zira shook her fur dry after going down to the stream and bathing in it a little. Dotty was with her, also bathing in the water's cool shades.

   "Spotty!" Zira called sharply.

   "Yeah?" Spotty answered.

"We need to kidnap someone else Simba is closer to," Zira said when Dotty' attention was on her. "We can't just sit around here any longer. The whole of the Outlanders will go starving, and I don't want that."

Dotty wrinkled her nose in disgust.

   "Isn't that risky?" She asked.

"Maybe for a regular lioness," Zira replied. "But I am a rebel." She smirked. "And rebels always win."

Deleted scenes: There weren't too many in here. Originally, this book was going to be called Rebels instead of A Rebel, but I decided to change it.

Nala was not going to get into a fight with Simba, and Timon and Pumbaa were originally going to leave for the jungle instead of getting captured. I figured they would never leave without telling Simba.

Ni was going to be another prisoner that got captured, but I cut him out because he had no use in this story.

Note: Sorry it's so short. :/ I wanted to get it done before Christmas so everyone who read my first chapter didn't have to wait forever to get the second chapter, because I will be away on Christmas Eve and Christmas. These chapters take about one day to write without editing or doing all that stuff, and a half a day to edit and delete some stuff I don't like. That is why I made this shorter.
