Walking at his side Kiara felt a sense of dread fill her body.
Approaching their home the sounds of a blazing row drifted towards them. Looking ahead they saw Aketch and Nassor stood on opposite rocks, both trembling with rage.
“Not to mention your comments were utterly irresponsible,” Aketch finished, Kovu and Kiara only catching the tail end of her sentence.
“I did what was right. You can’t tell me what to do Aketch,” Nassor replied angrily.
“My status is equal to that of Kopa,”Aktech snapped.
“Stop interfering. Besides, I though you would be happy I’m going to find Majani,” Nassor retorted.
“Majani abandoned me when I was my most vulnerable! She is dead to me. Finding her will only drag up painful memories!” Aketch snapped, lashing her tail from side to side.
“I will do what I want!”
Turning away Nasssor ran down from the rocks straight into Kovu. The force was so hard Kovu went flying to the ground. Consumed by anger Nassor didn’t bother to see if he was alright.
Nassor was oblivious to everything going on around him. Herds scattered in his wake as he ran. Jumping into the river he entered the Outlands with a soft splash. Crocodiles fixed their eyes on him with some playfully snapping at his heels. Running along the river bank he soon spotted Vitani sitting dejectedly looking at her reflection. Walking up to her he sat down next to her.
Breaking the silence Nassor began to tell Vitani about his argument with Aketch. Listening to the words Vitani felt pieces fall into place. In a second she could see the events of the past few days together as a whole story. All the doubts seemed to slip away as a natural solution appeared. Vitani felt her pulse quicken with anticipation. Looking at Nassor she smiled, her eyes full of power and light. Bending down she began to tell him her plan.

Just before dawn the next day when the pale light was starting to slip into the kingdom, Nassor and Vitani crept away from Pride Rock. Fear ran through their bodies. Slinking through the rocks and tress to the side of Pride Rock their senses were heighted. Suddenly roars ripped through the hazy morning. Turning around to their horror they saw Kovu, Aketch, Ni, and Aine running after them. All four were calling out to the pair. Looking at each other Vitani and Nassor bolted. Herds scattered in the lions wake as they ran through the kingdom.
Coming to Border Rock Kovu and Aketch jumped out of the darkness in front of Vitani and Nassor causing them skid to a halt. In the darkness Kovu and Aketch had anticipated the pair’s direction and taken a short cut in an effort to cut them off. Behind them Ni, and Aine appeared, Nassor and Vitani were trapped.
“You’re not going Vitani,” Kovu said angrily.
“Out of my way Kovu. I don’t want to fight but I will,” Vitani replied tensing.
“Nassor home now,” Aketch snapped.
“No.” Nassor replied with a voice like iron.
“I will not have argument you have caused enough trouble,” Aketch replied.
“I am not a cub anymore Aketch. I am leaving with Vitani.”
“No you are not,” Kovu snarled. “Ever since you got involved.”
“KOVU THAT IS ENOUGH!” Vitani roared. “Nassor has helped me. He has been the only lion who has been willing to listen.”
“Vitani he has manipulated you!”
“I make my own choices. You have become so wrapped up in your own world. I want to go with Nassor.”
“Vitani we’ve been through this finding Zola,” Kovu began.
“No Kovu, you have just told me what you think, you haven’t even listened to anything I have said.”
“Kovu, let her go,” Aine said, speaking for the first time. “Vitani these few weeks I have watched and listened. I see you alone have decided your fate, the fact it is with Nassor makes me less fearful.”
“Aine thank you,” Vitani replied hugging her.
“Aine please don’t,” Kovu pleaded.
“Kovu in this you are wrong. I knew Zola…. If you see Masika… if you find my cub tell her I love her.”
“I will Aina I promise,” Vitani replied. “Kovu please accept I have to do this.”
“No you don’t this whole thing is stupid.”
“Stupid. Fine if that is what you think so be it, I don’t your permission,” Vitani snarled leaping over his head.
“Father, Aketch, I am leaving today whether you like it or not,” Nassor said looking at his family.
Seeing the confidence in his son’s eyes Ni smiled though his heart was breaking. Taking a deep breath to calm himself Ni hugged his son.
“Go with my blessing. Nassor you have become everything I hoped for, I am so proud of you.”
“Thank you Dad, tell Mum I love her and I’ll be home one day,” Nassor whispered.
“Nassor look at me,” Aketch snapped. “That selfish sister of ours left me, she won’t accept or care for you. I can’t support this fools quest.”
“Fine. Have it your way,” Nassor brazenly before jumping over the head of Aketch. “Guess it’s time I was leaving.”
“I’d say it was high time we left Nassor,” Vitani said. “No point in hanging around here, we don’t need their permission.”
Together Nassor and Vitani turned away from their family utterly deaf to the protests that followed in their wake. Walking through Vitani’s former home they soon reached the border. Stopping they looked at the invisible line. Turning they faced each other, their fear evident.
“I dare you to cross it,” Vitani said evilly.
“I double dare you to cross it,” Nassor shot back smirking.
“Together then?”
“Together,” Nassor replied.
Raising their paws Nassor and Vitani crossed the border leaving the only home they had known. At the exact moment they crossed their family appeared, just close enough for them to have witnessed the act but far enough away to prevent them acting. Without looking back Vitani and Nassor walked into an uncertain future. Later that morning back at Pride Rock Kopa and Imoo listened to the story. The two cousins felt a heaviness in their hearts at what their return had caused. Now at last the final chapter had begun that would determine the fate of that Simba and his pride had begun.
