Guides to the Lion Pride

 

 

Ndona Pride

Founded by Malkia at the start of the Revolution, in which lions from all over gathered to join and found prides. It is the seat of power in the Pridelands Empire, and it has always been known as a well organised and just pride.

The throne passed to Malkia's heir, Binti, and has since been governed by the Ndona Dynasty. The one occurrence of a usurpation was during the days of Mufasa's reign, longer after the great Emperor had given each land belonging to the Pridelands independence. Mufasa's brother, Taka, seized the throne by way of murder and exile. Simba, Mufasa's heir, returned to overthrow him and take his rightful place on the throne.

Recent tension and strife among the Royal Family has caused the pride to take desperate measures. For instance, the return of Simba's rightful heir, Kopa, caused a group of his sister's loyalists to attack him and later flee the pride to start their own. Aside from that, things have been rather peaceful, and the pride continues to defend against outsiders and threats.

Outsider Pride

Founded only after Simba's ascension, the pride was situated in the barren wasteland that is the Outlands, and has been set on one thing: to destroy Simba and his heirs. Their leader, Zira, was considered a dictator, and an insane one at that.

The pride survived for a long while on scraps and vermin, and became savage fighters and hunters. They finally allied themselves with the Ndona Pride when Zira was killed in a final battle against the so-called Usurper King.

Rebel Sentinels

Founded solely for the purpose of aiding rogues and exiles, the Rebel Sentinels are a feared and revered cult. Their recent activities regarding the Pridelands have made them better known amongst the kingdoms, but also more hated. Their leaders are often brutish and cause much terror and strife among their neighbouring lands.

It is also common for one leader to be overthrown or even killed by a challenger. Any rogues wishing to challenge a leader are heard, and given a chance. If the rogue is killed, his associates are forbidden from entering the land. Should the leader be killed, the rogue takes his place, lest the pridesisters deem him unworthy.

Mashariki Pride

This pride is very quiet and reserved, and their pride members are traditionally dark of fur and fair of face. Their cheeks are also very high and profound, distinguishing them from other prides.

The Mashariki are perhaps the most involved in the affairs of the Ndona Pride, as they have offered suitors to lone Queens and lionesses for the hunting parties. Their own lionesses are plentiful, and have survived on few rations since their early days and are well respected because of this.

Mbuga Pride

The Mbuga Pride is a very large one, and a very peaceful one as well. Their lionesses are well-built and are much larger than Pridelanders or Eastlanders. They are traditionally good at hunting and it is their Queens who are usually in charge of hunting parties.

They are most famous for giving Sarabi and her three sisters to the Pridelands as possible tries for Mufasa's Queen. When Sarabi became Queen, the Empire gave their leader at the time, Heros, their greatest respect.

Kaskazini Pride

The Kaskazini Pride is well known for it's differing beliefs. They follow the 'Way of the North', whereas most of the Empire follows the 'Way of the Stars'. Their priests are the main power, governing hunting and worship. Since the days of High Priest Chanzo, the High Priest always has a King, always a younger sibling or relative, beside him to help with ruling the kingdom.

The Pride is most famous for carrying the 'Illness', which was named the Tambaa Disease by priests under Kopa's reign.

Magharibi Pride

The Westlanders are perhaps the most barbaric, warmongering of lions known to the Leonine Kingdoms. Their origins are unknown, but they are suspected to have once been part of Sadaka's army in her battle against Malkia.

They have survived for long, and have inhabited the Westlands since before the Revolution. Their leaders were never considered until they'd beaten at least three lions in single combat, and lioness will never take a lion as a mate until he has beaten at least one.

Kavu Pride

The Kavu Pride is among the less well-known of the Prides, despite once being a part of the Empire. Their homeland is barren and dry though, and those in the pride are very thin and lean. Their cubs rarely survive their first week, and those that do are watched over carefully.

Females are lesser in the eyes of the males, tools only for breeding and for providing. Cubs, no matter the gender, are held sacred and are protected at every cost.

Valley Pride

Founded by Tojo in the days of King Scar, this pride is probably the most secluded and well-hidden. All of its members were refugees from the King's reign, and considered themselves a family.

Because of their views, inbreeding became the norm. It was also because of the emptiness of the land, and the fact that no rogues would come to stay.

It suffered a heavy loss when Adui, son of Ni, led an attack on the pride, followed by Cheka, who agreed with his views and carried on in his example. The pride prevailed, however, and still live to this day.

Western Pride

An offshoot pride of former Pridelanders, the Western Pride is well known for its heavy traditions and its language – the natives of the pride speak Swahili, and are rarely, if ever, taught the Common Tongue.

It was mostly known for housing the lion Fortis, who was the father Queen Avem of the Pridelands.

Impisi Pride

This pride was founded not long after Kopa took the throne, after returning from self-exile. A group of Kiara's loyalists broke away from the Ndona Pride, claiming that Kiara was the rightful Queen and didn't deserve to be overthrown by her allegedly dead brother.

They went on to form an alliance with the neighbouring Hyena Clan, and joined forces to spite the Pridelanders. Their leader, Katili, decreed that there would always be a lion and a hyena on the throne, ruling their respective species.

They have not been part of any wars or conflicts, but it is known that they plot and conspire to eradicate Kopa's bloodline and restore Kiara's reign.

Ni's Pride

A small group of lions living on the outskirts of the Empire. The pride only came to be during Simba's reign, when Ni was beginning his search for prides to conquer. The lionesses were supportive of their new leader, and when Ni's family came to merge their pride with his, Ni considered them more then welcome.

They still stand strong to this day, despite frequent attacks from the neighbouring Hyena Clan.
