'I'm gonna getcha'!' Shrieked Sarabi, sprinting down the grassy hill. 'Oh yeah?' Laughed Taka, daring to turn his head round. 'LOOK OUT!' Squealed Sarabi. Taka turned his head round but it was too late; he was flung over the rock and somersaulted backwards, landing with a loud "Bump" on the ground. Sarabi was close behind, landing awkwardly on top of him. 'Ha! Got you!' Sarabi chuckled, sitting up. Taka smiled awkwardly. She looked so beautiful- her orange eyes shining like stars on the blackest of nights. 'Okay, now you catch me!' She grinned. Taka shook his head. 'Sorry Sarabs...' As soon as he said it, he wished he could claw the words back in again. Sarabi looked down at the floor, the sparkle from her eyes fading. 'Sarabs?' She whispered, her voice cracking slightly. 'Sarabs?' She said luder. Taka uneasily stood up, his heart sinking till it his his stomach. 'It slipped out,' Taka lied. He had wanted to say it for all eternity, and now he said it, he was getting showered with abuse. It was so unfair.
'How dare you!; Sarabi whispered. Anger flashed in her eyes. 'You know I am forbidden to see you! You could at least show me some respect! I shouldn't even be here and you have the cheek to call me Sarabs?' She was yelling now. Bubbles of anger fizzed up inside him, and before he knew it, Taka was growling. 'It is so unfair! I am not allowed to call you Sarabs just because it is my brothers pet name for you? It's pathetic!' He spat. Sarabi grolwed back, her teeth bared. 'You know it's more than that!' Sarabi roared, and stormed off.
Sarabi and Mufasa sat tgether on the hill top, gazing at the star sprinkled sky. The sky rolled on endlessly, the deep silver moon hanging brightly above them. Mufasa was smiling broadly, nuzzling Sarabi. Sarabi, howvere, looked troubled and sad. 'What's wrong, dear Sarabs?' Mufasa beamed, licking her cheek fondly. 'Taka,' She mumbled 'He called me Sarabs.' Sarabi admitted. Mufasa winced and closed his eyes. 'Mufasa?' Sarabi whispered. 'Are you mad?'
'No Sarabi. I am not mad. I am sorry. I am ashamed. My own brother can't give you a nick name.' Mufasa sighed. 'But, your father. You know if he calls my Sarabs it might grow his affection,' Sarabi reminded him. Mufasa nodded and closed his eyes once more. 'Sarabi, if I am to be a good leader, I must be forgiving. Taka loves you, fact of life.'
'No!' Sarabi protested - but she knew it was the truth. 'Sarabi, I think you love him.' Mufasa smiled. It wasn't an evil smile, it was a kind smile. A smile you give when you discover your friend has a crush. But Sarabi loved Mufasa. Didn't she? 'Sarabi, go to him. Tell him the truth.' Mufasa beamed. Sarabi nuzzled Mufasa. Perhaps for the last time? How was she to know? She ran down the hill. She knew that Taka would be at a cave in Pride Rock, usually torturing a mouse. Sarabi's prodection was right. He was dangling a mouse over his gaping mouth. 'Taka?' She beamed. Taka rolled his eyes at her entrance. 'What?' He groaned.
'I love you,' Sarabi whispered. Taka was shocked. He stood up. 'I- I know your lying!' He whispered. Sarabi shook her head and nuzzled him. 'I can't lie any more!'
'Wouldn't Mufasa be mad?'
'He's the one who told me to own up,' Sarabi beamed. Taka shook his head in disbelief. 'We can be together!' He grinned at long last. Sarabi nodded.
A few days later and Sarabi and Taka were walking merrily together, chatting and laughing. Suddenly Mufasa was seen with Sarafina. Sarafina bounded over to Sarabi. Sarabi felt sick. 'Sarabi! Guess what? I and Mufasa are betrothed!' Sarafina grinned. Sarabi felt like some one had stabbed her in the stomach. The whole world spun around. 'What?' She tried to hide the fustration out her voice. Mufasa beamed and nodded. 'My father wasn't to pleased,' Mufasa grinned. He looked at Sarabi, right in the eye 'But love is unpredictable.' He smiled. Taka paw fived his brother. 'Ace!' He grinned.
'Just like old times!' Sarafina giggled.
'Let's go and celebrate!' Agreed Mufasa.
'I HATE YOU!' Screamed Sarabi, and she ran away from all of them, tears streaming down her face. Mufasa and Sarafina where taken aback. 'I thought that's what she wanted?' Sarafina and Mufasa said in usion. Taka shrugged. All three followed Sarabi, though now she was just a speck in the distance.
Sarabi sobbed and sobbed, her head n her paws. 'Hello?' She heard a whispere. It was Queen uru, loking radiant as the sun set. 'What's wrong Sarabi?' She asked worriedly, lying down beside her. 'I don't know who I love anymore.' Sarabi wailed. uru soothed her and licked away the tears. 'Deary, who loves you more?' She asked soflty. Sarabi's ears pricked up. 'Well, I don't know.' Sarabi admitted. She thought of everything she and Taka did; in the mornings they would meet up and chase each other, and have fun. Then she thought of what she and Mufasa did: They would meet up, they would take a stroll through the Pridelands, they would go hunting together, and then at night they would star gaze and talk. 'Mufasa's with Sarafina now.' Sarabi mumbled. Uru shook her head. 'Oh no. Mufasa and Sarafina made that up so you could be happy.' Sarabi felt ten times worse.
'They did that, for me?' Sarabi pondered. Uru nodded and stood up. 'Yes, they did. Excuse me, but I must run along and fetch supper. Ahadi can get quite snappy without it!' Uru beamed. And with that Uru padded out the cave.
