Simba, now an adult, is king. He lives with his parents, Sarabi and Mufasa. His father has a scar on his leg, and, because of a fight with a lion called Scar, Simba also has one on his leg. So there are three scarred lions. Simba has a daughter, Kiara. Kiara’s mother is Nala, the queen of the pride lands.

Simba took Kiara into the pride lands and explained things in a song. They jumped on some elephants and went for a ride. As the elephants stampeded through a jungle, Simba grabbed Kiara and he jumped for a vine. They swung and landed in some water. Simba came out and Kiara followed her dad onto some moss-covered rocks, but slipped and fell in the water again. Simba helped her out and they slid down a small gorge. Simba through Kiara into a bunch of flowers. They went running about.

Somewhere else, is the lion, Scar, and his wife, Zira, and their two adolescent children, Nuka and Vitani. Scar was angry about the time when he was fighting with Simba. He remembered that he had giving Simba a scar, and then Mufasa had come and helped win the fight. Scar was angry that he lost. He wanted to have a rematch. “Why can’t you?” asked Zira, “perhaps somehow you could with his daughter.” Scar laughed a little, “Zira, you think that I can have a rematch with Simba, because of his daughter!?” He laughed again, but then had an idea, “Zira, you’re right! If she could be distracted into keep leaving Pride Rock, I could make it seem like she is in trouble, and therefore Simba would be angry with me, and the rematch could begin!” Vitani then asked, “But how’d you do that?” Scar didn’t know.

Simba was resting. Kiara came to him. “Dad,” she said, “May I go and explore the pride lands?” “No,” he said, “Unless Zazu comes with you.” But he saw Kiara look unhappy. “Alright go on without him.” Kiara didn’t like going with Zazu.
Kiara went down the rocks and onto the ground. This was her first time in the pride lands by herself. She went bounding off. But she met up with Timon and Pumbaa. “So, princess Kiara,” said Timon sheepishly, “what are you going to do?” “I am going to play,” said Kiara. She started laughing and jumped on a rock. But then Timon and Pumbaa went in front of her. “With us?” Timon hoped. “No!” said Kiara, “Umph!” She had jumped on a different rock. “I will play with someone else.” She disappeared. “Oh, well, Pumbaa,” said Timon, then he jumped onto Pumbaa.
Kiara had jumped onto a big rock. She sat down and looked around. “Wow!” But then she started sliding! She grabbed the rock but fell into the water below! “Help!” A cub came and pulled Kiara out. They panted, and then Kiara thanked the cub. “I’m Kovu,” he said. “I’m Kiara.” Kiara laughed and started running off. Kovu went after her. Now Kiara had a friend. But on a log was Nuka, and he had seen them. “I’ve got to tell Scar!” He ran off. He came to his home. “Father!” Scar came out. “Kiara has a friend! And she’s alone in the pride lands, except for that other cub!” Nuka was excited. Scar ran and saw the two cubs out there playing. “Great.”
“Kiara!” Simba had come to Kiara after she had said good-bye to Kovu, “Why were you gone for such a long time?” “I was playing with a cub named Kovu.” “I want you to go home now!” Simba was angry with Kiara. Kiara followed him into Pride Rock.

The next day Simba let Kiara into the pride lands, but with Zazu. “So princess Kiara, what did you want?” he said when he had perched on a thin twig. “Where’s Kovu?” Kiara looked around. “Well, let me look,” said Zazu, “you stay here while I fly around.” Zazu flew off. Kiara didn’t like just staying there. Then Kovu pounced out. “Kovu!” She was happy to see him. The two cubs went off to play. A bit later Zazu returned to say that he hadn’t seen him so far. “Princess Kiara?” Kiara was not in sight.
Vitani and Nuka saw the cubs playing. “Let’s go, Nuka!” said Vitani. She was already going down the rocks to tell Scar.
Kovu was showing his parents Kiara and telling them about her. They were using up a lot of time, and Simba didn’t want Kiara gone for a long time.
Vitani was faster than Nuka and got to Scar first. “Kiara is with that cub, but no one else is with them!” she told Scar. “Let’s go now, Vitani!” He gave her and Nuka sticks with fire. They ran to the grassy places and spread the fire.
Kovu was saying good-bye to Kiara. He was walking off but was cut-off by some flames. Kiara screamed. Kovu ran her way. The cubs went running off. They didn’t know what to do. They went round a rock. But they came to another path of fire. “But don’t kill the cubs!” called Scar. He stood on a big rock and watched Nuka and Vitani racing back and fourth, also making sure the cubs were okay. He wasn’t quite that cruel. Kovu and Kiara didn’t hear him. They were terrified. Simba was on Pride Rock and saw the cubs. He was also very frightened. He leaped down and lost sight of them. He leaped over some flames and landed safely on some bare ground. Then he saw them again. He came to where they were, grabbed them both and got onto pride rock. Scar saw this. Simba hadn’t seen him. “Put the fire out!” he called, “Simba didn’t see me!” Now Vitani and Nuka raced about putting the fire out.

Simba scolded Kiara. He was cross with Zazu, too. “Why didn’t you watch her properly?” Simba said to Zazu. “But,” Zazu said, “Your daughter went off by herself! I told her to stay there! I was looking for Kovu.” Simba looked angrily at Kiara. She sighed. “Kiara, I need to protect you.” He walked into Pride Rock. Kiara sighed, and then followed him in.
But outside, behind and on a log, Scar, Zira, Vitani and Nuka watched Pride Rock. Scar abandoned the plan, and now just wanted to start the rematch. “Come on!” Scar went running towards Pride Rock. Zira soon went with him, then Vitani, and Nuka came lastly. Inside Pride Rock, Simba wanted Kiara to know that he and Nala had to protect her. “If we don’t, you could get hurt. We love you and need to protect you.” Kiara was starting to understand. “I’m sorry,” she said.
Outside, Scar and his family were climbing up the rocks. Nala, Timon and Pumbaa were on Pride Rock and soon saw them. “Simba!” Nala called, and came inside, “Scar is here!” Simba was shocked. The lion he had fought with had returned. “Yeah!” said Timon, “Pumbaa! Let’s hide!” The silly animals ran further in. Simba looked at Timon and Pumbaa, ashamed of them, and then rushed out and saw Scar and his family. He was also surprised to see that there were more with him. The rain was coming down. When she was closer, Vitani tried to leap at Simba! Simba backed away and ran inside. Simba told Kiara to hide. Kiara knew that this was to protect her, and went to hide with Timon and Pumbaa. Lions were ready to fight. Lionesses leaped out and growled. “Scar,” said Simba, “Why are you here?” “Remember when we had that fight?” said Scar, “And you won. I’ve wanted to have a rematch. We had this plan to use your daughter. We wanted her to get distracted and keep going out into the pride lands. And if I made her in trouble, you would come, save her, get angry with me, and then a rematch. But it didn’t work. But now we can!” Simba was angry. But Zira, Vitani and Nuka didn’t want to fight anymore. All this for a rematch? A pointless fight? “Come on Zira!” said Scar. He thought that they would be ready to fight. But Zira glared at him. “Scar, this is ill-considered! All this for a fight! Just because you lost last time! And we put those two cubs in huge danger when the fire was lit!” Vitani and Nuka agreed. They nodded their heads. Scar was shocked. Simba was angry that the fire was Scar’s idea, but he was feeling relieved that some of them were not on Scar’s side any more. “I’m not with your plan anymore, Scar,” said Zira, “I will still be your mate, but I won’t go on with this fight.” Nuka and Vitani went over to their mother. “Stop!” Scar yelled. But they stayed with their mother. Scar was angry, and felt a bit silly. He decided to run away, but Simba spoke, “Stop, Scar! You’re going to go off the edge!” Kiara heard her father, and knew it was to protect Scar. Scar laughed, and turned to leap off, but started falling! Simba leaped to the edge and pulled Scar up. Zira went to him. “Scar, please stop. Simba doesn’t want to have a rematch, and I don’t want you to fight.” “Scar, you must stop!” Simba helped him get up. Scar agreed to stop. “Simba!” Nala went to her mate and rubbed his head. Mufasa and Sarabi were proud. Timon and Pumbaa came out. “That’s it, Simba!” said Timon. “Yeah!” said Pumbaa. But Kiara stayed in. She didn’t want to disobey her father.

Scar, Nuka, Vitani and Zira moved on to start a different pride. And when Kiara wanted to play in the pride lands, she wanted her parents to come with her. She knew that they had to protect her, and that she shouldn’t go off on her own, and she loved them. As the family
