few too many hits on the head!” said Shenzi, knocking her own head in impersonation.
Ed laughed.
Banzai sniggered too and then said, “But suppose the kid is right? Let’s listen to him, see what he has to say.”
“Yeah, and if he’s wrong, we eat him!” Shenzi barked. The hyenas laughed.
A few metres back, the cubs had stopped laughing as Kovu said, “I’m serious! Nuka says so.”
“Nuka always says so.” muttered Simba.
“But think about it!” said Kovu, “If this thing is magic-which it is- then we’d be able to become kings!”
Kiara and Nala cleared their throats in disgust, “Queens.” said Nala.
“Yeah, sure, whatever… But we could do anything!” Kovu jumped up, “Please, guys, you have to come with me to find it!”
Simba, Nala and Kiara looked at their paws in thought.
“Well…” said Simba.
“What if he IS telling the truth?” wondered Kiara.
“We COULD do anything…” thought Nala.
“I’m in.” said Simba.
“Me too.” said Nala.
“Me three!” said Kiara, not wanting to be left out.
“Then, what are we waiting for?” Kovu sprang away, “Come on!”
Chapter 3
The cubs had been walking for hours, “My paws hurt.” Simba said.
“It’s more than my paws that hurt.” groaned Nala.
A good bit behind them, the hyenas were feeling the same, “Seriously,” said Shenzi, “this stone-thing better be worth it. Think Scar will like it?”
Banzai nodded, “How could a future King not love a wish-granting star?”
The hyenas planned to give the star to Scar as a present, and in return he was bound to give them anything they wanted.
Banzai looked at the cubs ahead, “I’m hungry.” he whined, “Think we could pick off one of the cubs without the others noticing?”
Shenzi frowned at him, “Um… Duh! Don’t you think you would notice if Ed suddenly disappeared?”
“Well, of course! But I’m smarter.”
“Okay, then where’s Ed?”
Banzai looked around, “Huh? Ed?”
Shenzi sat down with a smug look on her face, Banzai walked on ahead, “Ed!”
Suddenly, Ed popped out of a hole in the ground right in front of Banzai, “AAH!” Banzai leaped back and Ed and Shenzi fell down in stitches of laughter.
“It’s not funny!” barked Banzai.
Shenzi stopped laughing suddenly, “Oh, hey look! They’re going into a cave.”
Banzai snorted, “Cubs can’t walk for long. Come on; let’s go get something to eat.”
The hyenas left the cubs then. Inside the cave Kovu’s ears were sticking straight up, “You ever got that feeling that you’re being watched?”
“Sometimes…” said Simba, “Why?”
“Cos I got that feeling now.” said Kovu. He picked a few termites out of a hole in the cave wall, “Do you want some?” he asked the group.
Nala and Kiara grimaced but Simba stretched out his paw and ate one, he gulped then said, “They taste weird.”
Kovu ate the rest, “They taste fine to me.”
“That’s because you’re so used to them…” muttered Nala, she yawned, “Come on, let’s get some sleep then we’ll continue.”
She raised her head suddenly, “Hey, Kovu, where exactly are we going?”
“Oh, I forgot to tell you; just to the mountains that are covered in that white sand.”
“You mean snow.” said Simba.
“Yeah, anyway, that’s where the star landed.”
“I hope,” said Kiara, “You’re not planning on going up the mountain? It’d take days. Weeks even!”
“Well, no.” said Kovu, “The star landed at the base, not on the actual mountain.”
“Fair enough,” said Simba, “Okay, now let’s go to sleep.”
Chapter 4
“Look! Look! We made it!” Kovu jumped up and down around the base of the mountain, “We’re here! We’re here!” he cried.
Simba rolled his eyes, “Yeah, yeah… Where’s the star?”
Kovu stopped jumping; he glanced about, “Where is my star…?”
“YOUR star?” boomed a voice, “Who said it was YOUR star?”
The cubs jumped and scrambled behind a rock; which was measly cover for the four of them.
Shenzi, Banzai and Ed emerged from the forest of rocks beneath the mountain. In his mouth Banzai held a small glowing stone, no bigger than a pebble.
“The star!” gasped Simba, “Give it back!” he snarled jumping from behind the rock.
“I thought it would be bigger…” said Nala.
“This is only part of it,” said Shenzi, “The rest was just rock. But this part,” she gestured at the rock with her paw, “this part is the magical part!”
Kovu jumped out too, “Give it back!”
Banzai waved and said in a muffled voice, “Hi, Kovu! How’s Scar?”
Kovu ignored him and growled at Shenzi, Simba was disappointed since Kovu’s growl seemed closer to a roar than his was.
Shenzi grinned, “If you want it, then you’ll have to come and get it!”
She pulled Banzai around and they both took off with Ed behind.
Kovu, Simba, Nala and Kiara all gasped and took off after them. The hyenas were much faster, but were slowed down by the boulders and branches that the cubs could easily slip under.
They ran into a gorge where Kovu swiftly found a ledge where he ran alongside the hyenas, free of obstacles’ on the path.
Banzai noticed Kovu running beside him, “Oh!” he said, “Shenzi, catch!”
Banzai threw the stone and Shenzi got it between her teeth.
Simba jumped up and grabbed a root hanging from the opposite ledge, throwing himself up on to it, he ran alongside Shenzi.
The two hyenas began throwing the stone between each other, constantly keeping the stone away from the cubs.
“I’ve had enough of this!” cried Nala and both she and Kiara bit Ed hard in his short tail.
Ed howled and tripped up, catching Shenzi and Banzai in his flurry.
They were almost at the end of the gorge and all three hyenas tumbled off the edge and into the pool below.
The cubs laughed in victory as the three hyenas pulled themselves from the pool.
Shenzi shook herself and laughed back, “Ha! We’ve still got this!” she held up what she thought was the stone, it was actually a fish.
She soon realised and threw it down looking about frantically for the stone.
“I think this is much better!” said Kovu, holding up the stone.
The three hyenas growled but were stopped from going back by the water, snarling they disappeared into the surrounding trees.
The cubs cheered and then Kovu said, “Let’s try making a wish!”
Simba gazed at the stone, “Try something simple first of all.”
“Why?” asked Kovu.
“Because how are you going to know that you’re King until we get home?”
Kovu nodded, held the stone and said, “I wish for… Some zebra!”
Nothing happened.
“You’re doing it wrong…” said Nala, taking the stone from him she cleared her throat and said, “Stone, make some antelope appear!”
Again, nothing happened.
The cubs ears drooped, “Is it broken?” wondered Kovu.
Kiara sighed, “No… I just don’t think it was ever magic.”
The three cubs stared at her, “But it flew in a blue glow!” said Simba.
Kiara looked embarrassed then she said, “Last night, I saw the stone flying too… But I went straight to Rafiki. He says it’s perfectly normal for this to happen when a stone has been flying low and fast for some time. He says the blue fire is just fire that simply looks blue. It’s something to do with what the stone burns with.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Kovu demanded.
Kiara shrugged, “I tried back at the graveyard but you wouldn’t listen.”
Kovu sighed, “Damn it…” he muttered. He put the stone down on a rock and walked away.
“Oh well,” said Nala walking alongside, “We’re not bored anymore, are we?”
Kovu nodded solemnly, “No, I guess not…”
Suddenly they heard a groaning like someone trying to push something heavy.
The cubs stopped, and so did the groaning.
“Hello?” said Simba, looking about the gorge, “Who’s there?”
For a moment there wasn’t an answer then a voice came, “Hello? Help me! I’m over here!”
The cubs followed the stranger’s calling to a pile of stones, Simba peered inside then jumped back in surprise, “It’s a cub!” he gasped.
The others began to push the slabs of rock from the hole where the cub lay.
Once he was out, he said, “Oh, thank you! I’ve been trapped in there for days, and I couldn’t get out on my own!”
“Who are you?” asked Kovu, “Are you Pride Lander or Outlander?”
The cub shook his head, “Neither. My pride lives on the boarder of the Pride Lands, my name’s Malka!”
Simba shook his head, “Malka! I barely recognised
