didn't know that they were only playing. "Back off, sis!" Kopa snapped, fending Kiara off. "But Kopa, she attacked you!" Kiara prosested, trying to get around Kopa. But he wouldn't let her through "We were just playing!" Kopa shouted at her then went back to play with Vitani. Kiara soon guessed that Vitani didn't play games like tag, but played fighting games. Kiara remembered when Kopa talked about a girl that he was meeting with the most beautiful blue eyes he had ever seen. When Kiara looked at Vitani, she could see that Vitani did have beautiful blue eyes. Vitani must be the girl Kopa was talking about. Then Kiara had an idea. She crept up behind her brother and pushed him to Vitani's lips.
Chapter 4
Zira watched silently from the grass, but couldn't help making a sound when she saw Kopa kiss Vitani. She didn't see Kiara. Zira started to come out of the grass. Vitani saw her and started screaming. "I'll kill you for kissing my daughter!" Zira yelled. She hit Kopa, sending him tumbling to the ground. "KOPA!" Vitani screamed. Kopa started yelling for help. "Oh no you don't." Zira said in a cold voice, and hit him again. She began to scratch him hard. "Mother, NO!" Vitani yelled. But Zira wouldn't stop. She bit Kopa hard on his side, making it bleed. His injures were serious "Kopa run!" Vitani called to Kopa, with tears streaming down her face. Kopa tried. But Zira got to him first. With a final bite, she make a final attempt to kill Kopa. Zira could sence that Simba was near. Kopa became lifelesss in Zira's mouth. His legs hung helplessly, and his eyes were closed. Zira dropped him onto a rock and fled.
Vitani started crying over Kopa's body until she had no more tears. She was heart-broken. Vitani's only true friend had been killed by her own mother. Kiara had fled when Zira had appeared. There was nothing Vitani could do about it. Then Vitani heard a noise. She fled into the grass then watched to see who it was. Simba began to slow down as he saw Kopa. Simba was mortified. His son was dead. Just like his father. Simba hugged Kopa's lifeless body close.
Vitani started snuffling, and Simba heard. He looked around and saw Vitani. Simba became angry as he hated Zira so did not want to make ant acceptions for her cubs. "Who killed Kopa?" He growled at her. Vitani was shaking with fright and told Simba about what had happened. "ZIRA!" Simba roared with anger, and leapt over Vitani to track down Zira. Vitani slowly walked up to Kopa and started sobbing again. She ran home to the outlands and cried herself to sleep. Vitani had changed. She kept feeling Kopa's presence next to her. She kept thinking that any moment he would appear and tell her everything would be alright. Her once beautiful fur that glistened in the sunlight was matted and lost all of it's shine. Her once sparkling blue eyes had become dull and dark. She cried herself to sleep most nights. Then she got snappy at everyone who came near her. Vitani's half-brother Kovu worried about her, and told Kiara about his worries. But nothing would change Vitani's mind. She had lost Kopa. And she felt guilty for not stopping Zira. Nothing could bring Kopa back. Simba had a hard time breaking it to his family, and was heart-broken, but he didn't know that Vitani was going through a worse time than he was. Vitani never got round to telling Kopa that she loved him. Now he would never know.
Kopa's eyes opened. The sun was high. He must have been unconcious for about two hours. Kopa could still feel the burn from where Zira had bitten him. "Why that little," Kopa mumbled to himself angrily. "When I get my paws on her I'm gonna..." Kopa stopped dead. He didn't recognise the land. Simba must have thought Kopa was dead and thrown his body to a different place. Kopa wandered around for a while then found a place where he could drink fresh, cool water. If only Kopa wasn't a cub he'd kill Zira! Kopa had an idea. It would be dangerous to return now, so why not let himself heal and train until he could return? The only problem would be he wouldn't see Vitani for ages, but that couldn't be helped. When he was an adult, he would return and kill Zira. And he could take his place as king with Vitani. It would be worth all that wait.
Chapter 5
It had been years since Vitani had last seen Kopa's dead body and she had grown older, but still hadn't forgotten how cruel her mother had been. It had been a month since Zira's death and Vitani did not care. She hated Zira for what happened. Vitani had not changed since Kopa died. Her fur was still dirty, and her eyes were still dull. In Simba's pride Vitani could have almost anything she wanted, because she was Kovu's half-sister. But there was only one thing she wanted. And she couldn't get him. Kopa. Vitani thought about him all the time. She was jealous of Kiara. Kovu was still alive. Kopa wasn't. Everything Vitani looked at reminded her of her lost love. Vitani was on the point of killing herself to be reunited with Kopa. But she didn't need to.
One day Vitani was bored and, as usual, was thinking about Kopa. She found herself wandering towards the outlands. When Kiara asked why Vitani just said because she could.
Vitani passed where she had first met Kopa, and remembered when he had saved her life. Vitani sighed and turned to go. But something prevented her. Hyena's were surrounding her, backing her up against the cliff. "We are here to do what our parents failed to do." They growled. There were too many to fight off. Vitani tried to jump over them, but they tackled her to the ground. Vitani's only way out was the cliff. She pushed they hyena's off her and started climbing. The hyenas climbed after her. Vitani started to sweat with worry and began to slow down. It was not like when she was a cub, and the hyena's were strong climbers. They would soon reach her, and kill her. Well, let's look at it this way. Vitani thought to herself as she strained to climb higher. If I die, I'll be with Kopa. Vitani looked up. A lion was looking over the cliff and saw her. "Grab my paw!" He shouted to her. Vitani became more depressed as she remembered when Kopa said that. But she still lifted her paw up to grab the lion. Vitani's paw slipped, and tried to get her other paw up, but she slipped again. Vitani shut her eyes and waited to hit the ground. Or the hyenas. Either way it would be bad. But the lion grabbed Vitani just in time and lifted her up. Vitani started to scramble up the cliff. But she'd never make it in time. Then the lion did something that brought back painful memories. "Keep climbing!" He shouted to her, and started to climb down. It was a seriously strange de-jar-vu moment but Vitani kept climbing. When at last she stood at the top, Vitani looked back and saw the lion had whacked the hyenas with his paw. He started to climb back up, knocking down stones on top of the hyenas. "Come up here and your dead." He growled. Vitani remembered when Kopa had saved her. The lion's voice sounded strangley familiar. Then he turned to her and said something that made her heart stop. "Are you OK, Vitani?" He asked. "Kopa?" Vitani gasped. "It can't possibly be you!"
Chapter 6
But it was! Kopa had somehow survived her horrid mother and returned to her. Vitani's fur was still matted but the sun bounced off of it so it shone. All the light and life came back to her eyes as Vitani was filled with hope. She nuzzled Kopa, delighted that he was by her side once again. Tears of joy began to spill out of her eyes. Vitani didn't want to leave Kopa, in case it was all a dream. But Kopa stayed by her side. "It's OK, Vitani, I'm here now, I'm here." He told her gently in her ear. "Why, Kopa, why?" Vitani sobbed. "Why didn't you come back? We needed you, I needed you!" Kopa continued to comfort Vitani. "I had to stay and train to become stronger. It wasn't safe for me to return. " Kopa explained, continuing to nuzzle Vitani, who was still sobbing in his shoulder. "Well, Zira's dead now, so you don't need to bother to kill her." Vitani told him, attempting to dry her eyes. But something made her panic.
"Not quite." A cold voice suddenly came from behind her. Kopa growled and pulled away. "Zira?" Vitani gasped, turning around. "But that's impossible! You were killed! We all saw it!" Zira chuckled. "You saw me kill Kopa, and you saw his dead body. But he survived. You never actually saw me die. You all saw me fall into the water. But that was it. That is not proof. I was dragged onto the bank somewhere and have been wandering around to find you all." Zira explained. "Now come with me." Zira stepped towards Vitani, who backed away into Kopa. "No, mother." Vitani said. Zira froze. "No." Vitani repeated. "I want to be with Kopa." Zira smirked. "I will kill your Kopa first, don't worry about that." She chuckled. Vitani gasped in horror. She couldn't lose Kopa a second time! "Bring it on!" Kopa challenged." Vitani's eyes began to fill with more tears. Vitani couldn't let Kopa die for real! Why was he agreeing to this?
Kopa and Zira charged at each other.
