"Mom, mom, MOM" Sanura screamed. Alumine completely ignored Sanura screams knowing that it was her way of wanting attention. Kiros woke and picked Sanura up "Dad put me down!" He dropped her at the entrance of the cave "Go and have a play, but remember stay near Hazina" Kiros yawned and returned to the cave. Sanura took the opportunity to go for another one of her adventures. As Sanura scanned the area looking for trouble she couldn't find any place interesting. She began just hovering around the cave leaping in the grass every now and then. Suddenly she froze as she heard rustling in the tall grass. She laid low to the ground hoping to remain unnoticed by whatever was out there. "BOO!" Out of nowhere appeared Naasir. "NAASIR!" Sanura growled. "What are you doing here, you scared the daylight out of me!" Sanura complained. "Heard you wake up, thought maybe we could go to the stream" Naasir suggested. "Naa I have even better plans than the stream, I'm going to cross the border!" She proudly announced. "The border, are you sure that is a great idea?" Naasir raised an eyebrow. "Well yes I think it is and I'm going to head there right now" she turned and began walking away. Naasir just watched as she soon disappeared from his sight. After a long walk Sanura came across a group of cubs playing, she lept at the chance for a game and pounced on one of the cubs. The cub was startled and crawled out from under her and hid behind one of the other cubs. Sanura was giggling before she realised she was being stared at quite intently by the other cubs. "Hi I'm Sanura, wanna play?" Sanura had a huge grin on her face. But it faded as she watched the cubs walk away from her; Sanura lowered her head in sadness and turned her back. All of a sudden he roar of lions startled her, she turned her head to see a pride heading her way, with that she bolted for shelter to hide out, as she frantically search for a safe shelter she heard the lions come closer. In the long grass was a large tree log that Sanura ran into hoping it would hide her from the lions.
Meanwhile back at Hazina, Kiros had only just woken and was going to find Sanura to make sure she was ok. He yawned and headed towards the stream thinking she would most likely be there. Once he was there he noticed there was no scent of her anyone nearby, he felt his heart beat fast and he anxiously began searching all round Hazina but finding her no where. He ran into the cave and woke Alumine. “What’s wrong hun?” She questioned half asleep. “Sanura is missing” With that the two flew out of the cave and began looking far from Hazina hoping to find her someone nearby. Kiros stopped to let Alumine catch up but noticed she was no longer behind him, he turned back to look for her. “Alumine?” he bellowed. “I’m right here, Naasir said she was heading towards the border” Alumine said from behind him. Kiros lept in front of her and the two began running at their fastest to reach Sanura.
Back at the border Sanura was still in the log but could see the lions closing in on her, she shut her eyes tightly waiting for the whole thing to be over, waiting for the lions to eat her, but as if by luck the roar of another lion made her open her eyes. It was her father Kiros he began fighting the pride. She watched in fear with her eyes fixed on the whole attack, Alumine crept up behind Sanura “Sanura, honey come on” At first Sanura was startled by the voice not thinking it was her mother. “Sanura, come on its me” With that Sanura turned her head to see her mother, Sanura ran to the end of the log where her mother stood and lept into her arms, Alumine grabbed Sanura and raced her back to Hazina knowing that for now Kiros could hold off the other pride. Once reaching the cave Sanura was dropped next to Naasir and very quickly Alumine alerted two other lionesses and departed with them by her side. Sanura sat next to Naasir not saying a word, just hoping that all four lions would return home safely. Sanura regretted the whole day and wished she had never gone to the border. Finally the sun began to set and Naasir still waited out in the cold by Sanura’s side. Her parents had not returned home yet and neither had the other two lionesses. Too soon the moon replaced the sun and the stars appeared. Naasir yawned, “Maybe we should go inside?” He suggested, it went unnoticed by Sanura and she continued to stare out into the distance. In the darkness Sanura managed to make out figures, it was her parents and the other lionesses. Sanura jumped off Hazina and ran towards her parents with a grin wiped across her face. She was so glad to see them. Once she was by her mother’s side, her presence went unnoticed by her father. Once they reached Hazina the two lionesses entered the cave and went to sleep. Kiros walked away from Alumine and Sanura sat on a mountain of rocks next to Hazina Cave. Alumine picked up Sanura and walked her into the cave. As the two huddled together Sanura asked “Is dad ok, mum?” “I don’t know hun, but I’m sure he will” Alumine was trying to sound reassuring but it didn’t seem to work very well. From inside the cave you could see Kiros lay on the pile of rocks and stare at the sky. Sanura watched him until she dosed off.
The next morning Sanura woke up nice and early she was wrapped in her mothers arms, as she woke she let out a yawn and then remembered what had happened the day before. She turned her head around expecting to see her father laying on the pile of rocks but he wasn’t there. She then turned to see if he had perhaps entered the cave overnight, but he was not lying next to her mother, he was not in the cave. Sanura carefully crawled out of her mother’s arms trying not to wake her and ran out the cave. She ran onto the pile of rock hoping to see her father somewhere on the plains. In the distance she noticed him drinking at the stream. She flew off the rocks and ran down off the cave and towards the stream, where her father was taking a drink. Sanura hid in the long grass that surrounded the stream but as it turns out she wasn’t the best at hiding. “Sanura, stop hiding” Kiros turned to face her with a smirk on his face. Sanura exited from the thick grass and sat by her father’s side. She lowered her head submissively, but Kiros just smiled. He lowered his head to be level with her. “Sweetie, you don’t need to do that” He commented. With that Sanura rose her head slightly and looked at Kiros “Why were you angry last night?” Sanura questioned. Kiros lowered his head again “I wasn’t angry, I was just worried. I thought you had been hurt, Sanura.” Kiros explained. “Then why did you sleep outside?” Sanura continued to question. Kiros paused for a bit before answering “I was still frightened about everything that had gone on yesterday, I kept thinking what I would have done if I had gotten there too late, I wouldn’t be able to live with myself, Sanura, that’s how scared I was.” Sanura understood where her father was coming from. “Well I thought you were very brave” Sanura complimented. Kiros lowered his head one last time and head butted Sanura, “Thank you.” Kiros replied. “Now what do you say we head back?” Kiros suggested. With that Kiros grabbed Sanura and carried the cub back to the cave.
THE END!
