1.  The Death of A Loved One.

A storm came over the savannah and lasted for several days. The third day into the storm and two cubs were born. One was all brown with brown eyes and had a black tuft of fur on the end of the tail and it was a male. The other one was more of a golden brown with a cream underbelly and a brown tuft of fur at the end of the tail and was also a male. The father, Moto, of the two cubs had to make a choice of which one he was to make heir to his throne. Moto began to pace back and forth while the mother, Maji, cleaned the two cubs. Finally Moto stepped toward Maji and the new cubs, and said, " I will name the golden one Akili and he will be my heir and the brown one I will name Vegeta. My word is true and final, no one can change my mind, not even the kings of the past."

Maji looked up from cleaning her cubs and said softly, "It's your choice and no one can make you chose." Moto grunted and stepped outside. A cool breeze swept over the land for the storm had ended. The breeze made its way to Moto and gently ran through his mane.

After a long three days of staying in a small den without food it was time to hunt, but before Moto set out he looked to the stars and asked, "Mohatu first king of the Pride-Lands I need your wisdom. Am I making the right choice in choosing Akili instead of Vegeta to be my king?" He waited for an answer and on the wind came a voice that, to Moto, said he was making the right choice, but was he? Assured Moto went out and began the long hunt for food.

Back in the den Maji finished cleaning the cubs and began to nurse them. When they were done the began to squabble around and make fusses until they fell asleep, one on top off the other. Maji smiled and wrapped her warm body around them to make sure they stayed warm and lasted the night.

The next morning Moto came into the den with a good meal for Maji. He set it down in front of her and went to the back of the den to get some sleep. Maji said that she was thankful and ate some of the meat and then she went back to sleep.

Later as the cubs grew and and began to walk they were able to explore where they lived. Vegeta was always happy around his mother, but every minute his father spent with his brother, Akili, the more Vegeta grew apart from his father. One day Vegeta jumped up onto a big rock and looked out over the plains. He looked in all directions until he saw a burnt, destroyed, and bad land. The urge to explore it wouldn't leave him ever since he laid sight on the bad-lands, so he walked into the den, up to his mother and asked, "Mom may I please go explore the bad-lands?"

Maji put a paw on his head and smiled, "Of course you can just be careful." Vegeta was so excited he would finally get to do something before Akili. Maji smiled as her young cub ran out the den entrance because Moto was teaching Akili about the bad-lands that day and Moto didn't bother telling Vegeta. "Moto keep watch on my Vegeta." whispered Maji. A tear suddenly fell from her eye and she smiled one last time before finally lying down and closing her eyes for the last time. Some strange illness had crept its way into her and now had taken her life. Maji died that day, hoping that her little Vegeta would be taken care of, but that hope would soon fade away like her will to live did.

By the time Vegeta got to the bad-lands he had already talked over to himself what he was going to do there. As his little feet hit the destroyed ground he heard two familiar voices not far from where he was. Vegeta cautiously peered around a burnt hill and was so shocked, sad, and surprised at what he saw! "...and that's why they call this place the bad lands." said Moto to Akili.

"Interesting now what else were you,... Vegeta what are you doing here?!" said Akili.

Moto looked up, saw Vegeta, and growled, "Who let you come here?"

"M...m...mother." stammered Vegeta.

"Get back to the den and don't ever leave the sight of your mother again!" roared Moto. immediately ran back to the den without another word. He fought back the tears as best he could and entered the end, but the sight he found there was too much. He couldn't fight back the tears any longer and they can pouring down his face.

"Mother you can't be dead. Mother. MOTHER!" shouted Vegeta. Moto and Akili heard the shout and ran back to the den as fast as they could. Moto entered the cave and gasped when he saw his dead mate.

"Akili you stay here with Vegeta while I take care of your mother's body." said Moto when he took the body outside. Vegeta was in the back of the den where his mother slept crying until he had no more tears left in him. Akili slowly walked over and sat down beside him. He hung his head and let a tear slip from his eye and it fell onto the ground. The love those cubs had for their mother was as much as one could want and that is how Maji came to die and Vegeta's life changed forever.

            2. Rejected Four Times To Many.

When everyone got over the death of Maji everything went back to normal except for Vegeta. "Father will you take me hunting?" asked Vegeta.

Moto smiled and said, "Sure, sure, I promise I will tomorrow." Vegeta smiled and ran out of the den to show the world how excited he was! He let out an excited growl and leapt up onto a rock. He looked down and saw Akili practicing his roar.

Vegeta whispered to himself, "That looks like fun!" and he tried to roar, but it sounded nothing like a roar. "That's the worst roar ever!" shouted Vegeta and he tried again. Try, after try, after try, he just couldn't roar. Vegeta walked down to Akili and asked, "Hey bro. will you teach me to roar?"

Akili said, "No, go ask Dad and only Dad form now on! Now go away!" Vegeta looked at his brother like he was crazy and then walked along trying to roar. For the whole day he tried and tried, but still he could not roar. The sun was finally setting on the horizon and the sky was a beautiful red orange color. Vegeta watched the sun set waiting for the night to set in so he could sleep and go hunting with his Dad tomorrow morning.

When the sky turned black and stars light up the sky Vegeta rushed into the den and curled up into a ball. He was so excited he could hardly sleep, but eventually his need for sleep over came his excitement and he drifted off to sleep. Vegeta dreamt that night he was with his family hunting a herd of water buffalo. They were having a great time until Vegeta's mother disappeared and Akili and his Dad turned and started to attack him. The lunged at Vegeta and right before the hit him Vegeta woke up. "What a weird dream." though Vegeta.

Vegeta stepped outside and stretched as the sun warmed his body. He then ran back into the den and woke up his Dad. "I'm sorry Vegeta," said Moto, " I can't take you hunting I'm going to take Akili hunting."

Vegeta said sadly, "But you promised." Moto didn't look at Vegeta and called Akili. As Akili walked by Vegeta he stuck his tongue at him and laughed. Moto had broken his first, but not last promise with Vegeta, and already Vegeta was beginning to feel like he was rejected.

The day slowly slipped away and Moto finally came back with Akili and they had some food. Vegeta was thankful they killed something to eat because he was starving, but when Akili handed Vegeta what was left it was almost all bones. "Hey Akili were's the meat?!" growled Vegeta.

Akili laughed, "Oh, that. It turns out that we only killed enough for me and Dad to eat, but Dad told me to save something for you and I did." Vegeta grew more mad every time his brother would do something like that to him. Everyday they came back from hunting and Akili gave Vegeta his bones, so Vegeta had what he could and went to bed hungry. When Akili and Moto went hunting Vegeta would go teach himself to hunt. With a few weeks of doing that, soon Vegeta was a better hunter than Akili. From that time when Akili gave Vegeta his bones and Vegeta wanted to throw them at Akili's head, but instead he buried them.

That night when Moto came in from hunting Vegeta ran up to him and asked, "Hey Dad will you take me fishing tomorrow?"

Moto yawned and answered, "I promise I will no matter what Vegeta." Vegeta was again as excited as ever, but Akili didn't want Vegeta to spend time with their Dad so he asked Moto, in the morning before Vegeta was awake, to teach him more about the territory. Moto agreed to do so and broke another promise with Vegeta.

When the sun came into the den and woke up Vegeta, he ran out and said, "Oh, I can't wait to go fishing with you today Dad!!!"

Moto said, as he looked at Vegeta, "I can't go fishing with you today, because I promised Akili I would show him more of the territory this morning."

Vegeta whispered into Moto's ear, "But you promised no matter what happened." Moto looked at his son sadly and left with Akili again, leaving Vegeta all alone feeling more rejected.

Vegeta and his family went through their routine for another week before Vegeta finally asked his father to promise to take him around the territory. Moto agreed, but Akili
