Chapter 1: All Ours

King Julian and his mate, Queen Foxy had another young cub. Her name was Feline. Feline looked very similar to her mother and had some resemblence to her father, she had a purple nose, sepia colored fur and an cocoa colored tail. Her lilac eyes would glimmer in the glorious sunrise causing the glow in her eyes to be more beautiful. Feline was very playful and liked pouncing with her four siblings, Mkuu, Kasa, Kifalme, and Prince.

Although the cubs had many rules to follow, they knew that they would keep them safe from any danger.

Kifalme would one day be Queen and her eldest brother Mkuu, King. They would each share land of Bora with their mate and one another. Prince hated being a prince. He would never be King. He was jealous of Mkuu. He also harshly ‘despised’ him. He always enjoyed playing with his older brother, Kasa. They would chase each other in the savannah and they would splash in the water hole. Kasa always liked to listen to his younger brother’s jokes.

Sometimes, Prince and Kasa would play with Kifalme and her friend, Mtu (they dreaded doing this).

Occasionally they would play with Mkuu and Kitisha even though Prince dreaded playing with his brother.

Kasa, Mkuu and Prince loathed Mtu very much. Mkuu and Kasa adored their sister and always wanted to keep her safe. Even though he adored her, he still dreaded her playing with Mtu.

The trio of brothers knew that there was something up with Mtu. They could never tell exactly what though.

Mkuu said that there’s a darkness lurking inside of him.

Kasa once said that Shadow was his father. No one knew who’s Mtu’s family was but Julian took him in the Pride because it would be easy for a rouge cub to be killed.

Prince said that he was really a hyena with  a lion body and head.

Kasa and Mkuu always said that was impossible. They would laugh at little Prince and they would quit talking about Mtu.

Kasa and Feline didn’t mind that they wouldn’t be rulers. They enjoyed their life as royal members of a nice pride and they adored their family very much. They would hope to someday join a different pride.

One dawn, Mkuu and Kifalme rushed to their father.

“Dad! Dad! Get up Dad!” they roared. They jumped on him, tugged his marigold colored mane and did everything they could to awake their father.

“Alright, all right I’m up.” Julian replied. He stretched and yawned showing his massive teeth. “I’ll showing the cubs the kingdom, I’ll be back be the morning meal.” Julian whispered to Foxy’s ear.

“Okay.” She responded with her eyes still closed.

Julian walked with his future ruling children. The bright golden sun was rising and it was a lovely view to see.

“This land is ours. From the rocky gorge to the soft savannah to the refreshing water hole.”

“What about that big pointy rock up far north?” asked Kifalme.

“That belongs to another pride. I believe King Kali rules it and Prince Viungo is next to reign.” Julian explained to his daughter.

“How do you know all of this, Dad?” asked Mkuu.

“Good question Mkuu. A ruler needs to learn these things to be great.” Julian replied.

Mkuu and Kifalme knew that they needed to learn lots before they would be rulers.

“But why do you need to know this?” questioned Kifalme (she emphasized on the “why”).

Julian didn’t know what to say. He didn’t want his young cubs to know about gruesome and frightening wars. But Mkuu and Kifalme were waiting impatiently for an answer.

“Incase there’s something wrong in our land, we can ask another pride if we can stay for a while until we find a new home.” Julian lied. The cubs didn’t notice that he was fibbing.

“Oh.” The cubs replied.

The group of lions roamed through the land until they were disrupted by a group of three hyenas.

“Oh no.” Julian muttered under his breath.

“Run.” He whispered to his cubs. Mkuu and Kifalme did as they were told and bolted home.

Julian roared a triumphant, brave and loud roar.

The hyenas felt threatened. But stayed put as they growled.

Julian had to fight them off.

He clawed one’s face and bit another’s stomach like he would as if he hunted an antelope.

Another tore right at him but at the last second, Julian fired a shot of his fist the hyena’s smoky face.

Whimpering, the hyenas raced near the gorge.

“Ha!” he softly chuckled.

From a far, Mkuu and Kifalme watched the whole thing.

“How gory!” they’d exclaim or “Daddy, fight off those mean ol’ hyenas.”

Kifalme and Mkuu returned to their father.

“Dad, didn’t you promise Mom that we’d be back by morning meal?” Kifalme asked.

“Oh, yes. Thank you for reminding me Kifalme.” Julian returned.

            Chapter 2: Jealousy and Marina

Prince watched everything from a rock that was up high. He growled and was furious. He wished he would run away and be a rouge. But, his parents still cared about him. However, prince had no friends. Mkuu was best friends with a cub called Kitisha. Prince secretly liked her.

Kifalme was best friends with a cub named Mtu. Prince, Mkuu, and Kasa detested Mtu and they always said that their opinion would never change.

Prince was so enraged that he clawed up a whole rock making noisy screechy sounds.

“Oh, there you are, Prince. It’s time for morning meal.” Ordered Foxy.

“I’m coming.” Prince replied.

Foxy walked away back to the cave.

“Why can’t we just say breakfast instead of morning meal. Saying morning meal is so stupid.” He growled under his breath.

Prince did as he was told and leaped from the rock to the cave for breakfast.

“Morning Pops.” Prince greeted his father as he tackled him.

“Please, Prince don’t tackle me. I’m eating.” Julian said a bit harshly to his son.

“Yes dear, your father could’ve choked.” His mother defended.

Prince was wrong. Maybe his parents didn’t really like him. Maybe they mistreated him because he would never be king.

Prince climbed back on the rock with nothing to eat. Then, he sprinted far away to the rocky gorge without anyone noticing.

He leaped from a high rock, to a branch, down to the ground.

Prince ran around, kicked rocks and practiced his roar.

It first came out like a purr growl like thing. He sighed.

From far away he heard laughing.

“Huh?” Prince said frightened.

A scrawny orange lion with a black mane appeared.

“Working on your roar, young cub?” he asked even though the answer was very obvious.

“My dad says don’t talk to strangers.” Prince told the strange lion.

“Well, you just did talk to a stranger Daddy’s boy. I’m Shadow. See, now I’m not a stranger.” The strange lion said.

“Uh, I um uh-“

“What? Spit it out already!” commanded Shadow growling fiercely.

“I have to return home for breakfast.” Prince told Shadow.

Prince bolted home. He thought that the strange lion would harm him.

“GET BACK HERE YOU LITTLE BEAST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Shadow roared his loudest.

He dashed over to Prince snapping his enourmous teeth at him.

Prince yelped.

Julian must’ve heard his son’s yelp because at the blink of an eye, he had pushed Shadow away from his son.

“Shadow, you do NOT belong here. Leave at once! What were you doing with my son?” roared Julian.

“Oh, I was um, uh um-“ Shadow didn’t know what to say.

“Spit it out already!” growled Prince smirking.

“I was escorting him. Why yes. I was escorting the Prince.” Said Shadow chuckling a little.

“You better have been. We’re through with this.” Julian said fierce but soft.

He grabbed Prince’s neck with his mouth and carried him home.

“Prince, how many times have I told you, never go in the gorge!?  Shadow could’ve killed you.” Julian told his son.

Prince knew that his father was very angry. “I just wanted to practice my roar, Dad.” Prince defended. “Besides Dad, I’m not a cub anymore. I should be able to go where I want!”

“Prince, Kifalme is still practically a cub and she’s much older than you.” Julian laughed.

“Kifalme is practically a teen dad.” Prince corrected.

“You know what I mean.” Julian said

“Dad, how come I won’t be King but Mkuu and Kifalme will reign?” asked Prince (changing the subject). He knew his father would never answer with out offending his son.

“Mkuu must follow in my pawprints as the eldest son. And Kifalme will follow in your mother’s pawprints.” Responded Julian.

“Who’s pawprints will I follow Dad?” asked Prince.

“You will be the top defender like your Uncle Kasi. He was my older brother. He’d be proud of you.” Julian told his son.

“What happened to Uncle Kasi?” asked Prince.

“He was trying to save his crush, Marina in the gorge and he was trampled to death.” Julian said. He was almost a bit teary eyed. He still mourned over the loss of his big brother. “He would’ve been King. But I had to
