Baby Kiara - Help Needed with New Style

Baby Kiara - Help Needed with New Style

I've had a go at using a pencil drawing as a lineart for my picture above of Kiara as a baby. I'm not quite sure I did it correctly though.

I use GIMP. I'm not sure it is the same as photoshop, but I know it is pretty similar.
I got my pencil drawing and went to colours, colour to alpha. Then on a new layer I put my colours. I didn't think the lineart was heavy enough so I duplicated it a few times to make it darker.

I want to use more of this style. Does anyone know how to do it properly or another way?

I know I need to work on anatomy a bit more (this was just a quick sketch).

About the image rendering - I don't suppose you could give me a link or something. I want to experiment in as many different styles as possible for my images because they are a bit samey at the moment.

I draw in the Lion King style from my head, but use a reference for my realistic. However, I change the reference so it isn't copying, and add in extra details which makes the character unique. I can do a rough face shape from memory in realistic style, but it isn't that good. I know everyone says 'practise makes perfect' but it is true. I started copying screencaps for the Lion King about 3 years ago. I hadn't discovered this site or any other site so they weren't posted. That would definitely be copying! But it improved my drawing. Soon I was altering the screencaps and then drawing my own, with maybe a reference or two. The trick is to persevere!

Don't give in! I'd love to see what new drawings you come up with^^ Funny thing, I use a PS tutorial for my images (which I render on GIMP) with just a few minor modifications here and there. But do you use reference when you draw? Or is it all from memory? because whenever I try to draw from memory it just ends up being all wonky and out of shape.

I won't give in! I even bought a new sketch book today for my drawings! Six, I've always wanted to know how you create your images - not the drawings - but your images, like the ones of Kosey and Keisha. I have GIMP and Paint.net.

Honestly, don't stop drawing. Your kind of talent just needs to be improved. And be warned, the technique I've described may be time consuming, but it'll be worth it in the end^^

That's what I'm thinking about for any more of these sorts of drawings!

You're welcome lion^^ I tried to show the pencil drawing once too, except it came out so bad that I ditched it halfway through and just made another render
