Their paws are coloured in and of similar colour.. is that it?

Damn! The next guess I was going to give was that they were all, for one reason or another, abandoned by their biological parents. Fang's parents died, Langua's parents abandoned him and Firion's mother abandoned him and his father didn't even know he existed.

Time to return to the drawing board.

I'm going out on a limb here but...do they all have female love intrests? That's probably not it but it's the first thing I thought of.
