Wanting Fame
So here's Mohatu's entire family all together. Scenario:
"King" Joe mated with Mohatu's mother, but he did it for his own selfish purposes. He only wanted cubs so that they could become stars and he could live off their successes. Obviously he had a very turbulent relationship with his mate and she kicked him out of her life before their cubs were born.
Mohatu's mother, on the other hand, was not much better - she wanted daughters, and so when Selfish and Mohatu were born she passed over them in favor of their little sister. She took care of all three, but her eyes were only on her daughter. So when "King" Joe came back, she happily handed over Selfish and Mohatu while keeping her daughter in her safe possession.

Nama - Yeah they didn't have the brightest start, but at least this experience was what shaped Mohatu for the better. Selfish, on the other hand...
